The whole team where very helpful and courteous, which is refreshing. All the food from breakfast to dinner was well above standard. A really nice family run hotel.

There is a lot to really like about this place. We only had a standard room but it was very good with a large bathroom and a large comfortable sleigh bed. It had a decent hairdryer (not one of those rubbish ones that don't dry anything then over heat and stop working) with tea and coffee in the room and home made flapjacks (oh my god, sooo good) all replaced each day. They provide shampoo, soap, conditioner and body lotion in the bathroom which is good. The breakfast is plentyful and they seem to cook fresh whatever you ask for. Lots of juices and cereals also avail. The Spa was compact but nice when using it not on a weekend - they sell spa sessions and when we went on the Sat and Sun it was fairly crowded with some kids playing ball in the pool (they do limit the times kids are allowed in the spa we just happened to catch the time they were). They only have 5 loungers by the indoor pool and about 6 low chairs, so if you don't bag one of those you can't really chill. All the elements of the spa were nice and we even managed to drop off for a nap when we went on the monday (less sold spa sessions then I think) as we pretty much had it to ourselves. The bar offeres a great selection of drinks and we also ordered a cream tea one afternoon which was really good - 2 huge homemade scones each! We ate there one evening in the bar (the restaurant food looked lovely but a bit posh for us) and the food was very good also. We also went to the Carpenters Arms 1 night (a pub in the village and that was good too). There are games for you to use in the lounge and they will order papers for you too. The staff were all lovely. The location is superb set in lovely grounds with superb views out the back up to HayTor (not sure if I have spelled that correctly).
These are really really small points...... I arrived for the first night on my own with my husband joining for the last 2 nights and whilst they had layed out a robe and towels for me for the first night the second day they forgot to add to this to accommodate my hubbie. All was quickly resoved when I asked for them. The towel rail seems to work off the central heating so for us in summer, we could not get it working and the towels ended up really damp and still damp the following morning. It could definitly do with more hooks in the bathroom to hang towels and robes on. The cleaner left their bathroom cleaning fluid in the bathroom so we also returned that to reception later in the day. The TV in our room looked like the top right hand corner had been bashed at some point as it was pixalated. On the first night one of the beautifully cleaned and starched pillow cases had loads of small holes in it - I didn't need it as they provide loads of pillows and I asked for it to be replaced the next day which it was. Pet hate - loads of throw pillows on the bed which look lovely but just end up on the floor. These are all really minor things and didn't really detract from the hotel experience, but thought worth mentioning.

We loved everything! Beautiful hotel in a beautiful and peaceful location. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! The weather wasn't great when we stayed, but the hotel was warm and comfortable.
The spa was well equipped and very clean.
The massage we booked was so relaxing.
We're already thinking about our next stay.

Lovely spa.
Mattress had seen better days.

Great breakfast, dinner was satisfactory. The spa facilities were first class, extremely clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the room and hotel were warm.
The evening meal was a disappointing as the fish portion was very small and the vegetables were over cooked.

Outstanding property in a beautiful location. Excellent Spa facilities. Food was exceptional and the staff were warm, friendly and attentive.
Due to the age of the property the sound proofing wasn’t great although it is to be expected. We could hear the occupant above us walking around, going to the toilet in the middle of the night. Occupant next door opening/closing drawers.

The hotel is lovely, it has a great spa with pool, steam room and sauna. It is in a super location for hiking with easy access to the moor as well as local footpaths. The food was very tasty and the staff were really helpful. Special mention for David who was just great!
Really dog friendly as well.

Friendly hotel, easy parking, immaculate accommodation, modern and relaxing spa, great food and perfect location for our walking.
The gym equipment for weight trainibg is a little old - it didn't detract from our holiday at all but I couldn't think of anything else negative!
4.5
This is a very well run and good quality hotel. The staff were, without exception, most helpful and polite.
The spa facility exceeded our expectation, the gardens are beautifully maintained - even in November. The delightfully spacious restaurant and bar both serve good food at a fair price.

Room was a little noisy

Fabulous hotel, pool/sauna/steamroom/hydropool marvelous. Breakfast lovely, I would have given an overall 10 but the evening menu was a let down. The restaurant and bar menus both served basically the same a'la cart dishes. Wasn't impressed with paying £4.95 for an extra portion of chips because the meal itself was so small. However, there is a lovely pub, carpenters arms, which is in walking distance where we had a lovely meal. Will definitely be going back but will book the pub for evening meals in advance
Just the evening menu. It would also be helpful if a copy of the menu was in bedrooms for guests to check out before booking a table

Exceptional staff, friendly and efficient. The hotel was well decorated and modernised in some areas. Spa area was new and lovely! Breakfast was great. Good quality freshly squeezed orange juice - always the sign of a good hotel!
My room was a superior room, which was spacious.
I had a facial while I was there, possibly one of the best I’ve ever had! All in all a great place to stay. The only thing you need to brave is a few country roads to reach it.
Only sight negative was the small tv in the room. But it was perfectly adequate!
