Comfortable room
The property seemed as if it was in the early stages of develo[ment so the price was high for the conditions.

The bed was quite comfortable and wi-fi was good
Where to start… this place is located on a very busy road which was noisy and difficult to cross. When we arrived the man behind the bar explained the owner was absent due to a family emergency and he and his partner were covering for him and had no relevant experience. Our room was clean and tidy but the noise from the road outside was very loud. We had walked 7 miles from Lenham to Chilham on a hot day so were very disappointed to find the shower didn’t work - the water was either scalding or stone cold. The man from reception stood in the bathroom for 3 - 4 minutes to get a bearable water temperature but by the time he’d left the room it was stone cold again - this is clearly dangerous. In addition the towel rail in the bathroom fell off the wall onto my foot and the toilet did not flush properly. Before we left to return to Chilham to find some dinner (having established on-line there was nowhere else to stay in the village) we were asked what we wanted for breakfast and what time we wanted breakfast. When we returned from dinner we were asked if we would mind having breakfast half an hour later so another pair staying at the hotel could eat first. We said yes if they could offer us a working shower in the morning. They said we could use the shower in their room! The shower in our room failed to work again in the morning but we preferred to stay unwashed. We left after breakfast - we went to drop the key at reception but the man there told us we would need it to let ourselves out the front door, all without leaving his seat and continuing his phone call - rude!

The room was spacious and clean. The owners were lovely from our first foot in the door to the last. They really did everything for us and we appreciate it. The car park was really handy too! The bed was really comfy too.

Tony and Sarah are brilliant hosts. Our room was a very comfortable haven to rest and relax in after busy days.
Both Sarah and Tony gave us really good tips about the train to Canterbury and where to eat locally.

I was on the Pilgrim way from Winchester to Canterbury an thus the "The Old Alma Inn" was an ideal overnight-stop for me in Chilham, easy to find on the way, but on a very busy traffic road. But during the night there was not much traffic and due to the fact that I got a nice room towards the back-garden, it was quiet and I slept well.
Anthony made a delicious and very tasty English breakfast. Brian made a very nice and friendly welcoming at my arrival and introduced me to the house. So did Anthony the other morning when he made and served a tasty breakfast.
Everything was fine an in fact there is nothing real negativ to tell about. The only disappointing thing is that the house is directly located at a busy street and it is difficult and dangerous to traverse to road but the pedestrian path is on the other side ... so be careful when you cross over !

Sarah and Tony were great hosts, The property was really clean and had a lovely fresh fragrant scent on entering the property.
Breakfast was yummy and set us up for the day.
Sarah took the time to recommend places where we could get a nice evening meal which was very kind.
The property is an old building and decorated to compliment which we liked, you could imagine in years gone by stage coaches turning up on route to London.
The room was a little cramped but it was expected considering the age of the property.

The rooms were immaculately clean and very spacious. Large clean bathroom also.
The staff were lovely and friendly. I made a mix up with timings, yet they were more than happy to stay up waiting for me and my baby.
I stayed with my 6 month old baby, and the gentleman who owns the place was so kind with him and made sure to help us back to the car.
The breakfast was a good portion, freshly made and locally sourced, and tasted amazing.
Would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Firstly, I am flabbergasted at the venue's response to Ben's review dated 7th August. We were there on the same night and met Ben in passing. Everything that Ben says is true.
My wife and I checked in about 8pm, the owners were already half cut and explained they were having a barbecue out the back. We took a walk to a local pub to try to get food, This was unsuccessful so we returned to the Old Alma Inn at 9pm.
On our return there were a couple of drunk people (not guests) in the cordoned off lounge area playing music and singing very loudly.
We then went to town to eat and returned about 11pm to get some sleep.
About 1am we were awakened by arguing, shouting and lots of swearing by the owners/owners party. This kept happening all night until after 5am.
At 8am the shouting, arguing and swearing started back up. At one point, the owner even knocked on our door calling 'Sarah' , we did not answer the door.
As we could not face breakfast in this extremely uncomfortable atmosphere, we got ready and left leaving our keys on the counter and went for breakfast in Canterbury.
We stayed in the ground floor room. The room was very tatty and dated. Contrary to what it says on booking.com, there is not a functional bar (nothing in it) and the lounge area is cordoned off.

Owner and his partner were drunk and shouting amongst themselves and other ones the entire evening and big part of the night. We asked several times to be a bit quiet and each time they apologised but start shortly again each time. Another guest ( family of four with two daughters of 11 and 13) called the police as the girls were terrified. This calmed them down but again they started. We heard them fighting until 5 am in the morning. As we were on foot hiking the north downs way we had no choice then to stay. Early morning we left and went to another inn to have breakfast. They only offer breakfast for their own guests but after hearing our story they let us in and told us this is not the first time this has happened. This place should be removed from Booking.com. The owners are an absolute disgrace for similar who run a B&B. I will be reaching out to the senior management of Booking.com in Holland as this is totally unacceptable.

I was very disappointed with response of the owner. I made a booking for two rooms not realising at the time that it was non refundable. We planned to walk with friends and at the time didn’t know for sure some two Months ahead if we would all be fit for the trip, including also the covid risk. So I contacted Booking.Com within half an hour or so to see if the booking could be cancelled. I spoke with the owner and explained an honest mistake. The owner was intractable and refused, was rude and aggressive on the phone. Judging by other comments I don’t think I am the first to experience his attitude. We did not stay at the property in the event and lost the booking fee. A lesson to check when booking.

The Old Alma Inn is right beside Chilham train station, so perfect for travel to Canterbury etc. I did however notice a sizeable carpark also. It is a short walk into beautiful Chilham village.
When I got there the TV in my room wasn't working, so they kindly moved me to another room, I am sure that it's working now though.

Sarah was exceptionally welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. The room was very clean and the breakfast was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and we couldn’t hear the traffic.
Despite having been warned, I found it hard to get the shower’s temperature correct.

Breakfast seemed a bit thrown together but was tasty enough. Bed was very comfortable. Room temperature was good. Hostess was chatty and friendly.
Coffee was way too strong and putting enough (ice cold) milk in to make it taste better resulted in it being too cold. :( It was a shame they don't serve breakfast a bit earlier as we were off to a horse event we needed to be at by 8.30. We made this clear from the time of booking the room. There was no milk in the room when we arrived back in the evening, despite us being assured there would, so we couldn't use the coffee and tea making facilities.
