We loved the location and the view. The breakfast and staff were exceptional.
The beds were very uncomfortable. The window did not have a screen to keep out bugs and no fan was provided. Our room was warm and humid for our entire stay.

I absolutely loved the staff and the vibe of Quinta Do Canavial! The pool area was a blast, it was so nice to have that option of going to the pool after a long day of exploring.
My number one problem with the property was the BED, extremely uncomfortable, and the second issue for me was stuffiness of the room. No ventilation no fans.

The facilities are located pretty close to the center of Velas, and has an amazing view. The room was wide and equipped with 3 beds; functional setup with what you need for a stay in sao jorge. The staff has been friendly and helpful.

Fabulous location, with bats swooping over the pool, knock out views in a green paradise. We overlooked 2 cliffs and saw amazing sunsets. Maria was lovely and made the stay welcoming and homely. Staff cleaned and changed sheets/ bedding every day. 5 mins walk from Velas. On the walk to Velas, you could see the volcano of pico rising out of the clouds. Honesty, I would have paid double.Breakfast was a feast!
All the photos I have added are from the property views or walking into velas.
Nothing.

The accomadation was stunning. It was beautifully located and had incredible views. The pool was lovely, the staff could not be more kind or helpful. Our room was beautifula and it was an added bonus that there was a seperate adjoined space for the children as I had just expected to share a room. I cannot recommend enough, it was just lovely.
Everything was wonderful. My only issue was that our room was too far from the wifi router and so we were unable to get wifi. While this wouldnt have mattered usually we were away for 4 weeks and the children and I were keen to keep in contact with dad and I had hoped to do some work in the evenings. There was plenty of communal space we were able to use for the wifi, it would have just been a bonsu to have in our room. Having said that it was actually quite nice to unplug in the evenings.

Amazing and such a friendly hosts. Breakfast was great with loads of choices. Stunning sunset and beautiful lookout. Can only recommend if you are staying in Velas
The location is a good walk from the town center but the place is worth it.

I thought there was a restaurant on site but there wasn't - appears only for groups of people

Incredible views of one of the best bays in Velas. The breakfast was also excellent. Nice pool area.
The rooms are slightly dated but nothing to be concerned about.

Very nice views, a lot of places for evening chill out at sunset. Separate Dining room offer simple breakfast and view to the bay. Very quiet location, about 30 min walking from the Harbour. Natural pools for bathing are about 15-20 min walking distance. There is a Chinese restaurant 15 min walking, that offers fast and tasty food without in Velas obligatory reservations.
The guesthouse is run by Maria and husband who are very helpful, and may provide guidance on trips and transportation. That even gave a lift from and to the airport, which is, given the limited capacity of taxi on the island, a slight challenge.
The guesthouse is composed by several rooms with bathroom located in several levels attached to the hillside. Although each with its own entrance, it may require more ventilation during the day and night.
Although the staff and rustic look is charming, some guesthouse components might require renovation.

The breakfast was perfect, the location with the views amazing and all the areas to sit and relax. We arrived late in the evening and they had left us a small plate of cheese, bread and a chilled carafe of Maria's husbands homemade tangerine liqueur, quite tasty! We did not have a car and walking into Velas in the evening for dinner and back was quite pleasant.
The room got a bit stuffy, even with the window open, a fan would have been nice. It was also a bit small for the two of us and all our luggage. The room itself had fantastic view over the Baia de Entre Morros, which made up for lack of room.

A very beautiful and quiet place with a great view of the landscape and the ocean. The center of Velas is about 15-20 minutes walk from the place. The rooms are nice and they are cleaned every day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even helped us to hire a car, that was really great because it is almost impossible to get one in place. We also enjoyed the homemade jam at breakfast. It is really a great place to stay at São Jorge.
Nothing.

- wonderful, breathtaking view on the ocean

Quinta do Canavial is located at the most beautiful spot on Sao Jorge and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel at home right away. From a nice welcome drink + bite to great breakfast, to support in finding good hiking routes, they're extremely kind and helpful. They even raced to the port to bring us a shirt we had forgotten after we had already left. So sweet!
Nothing, it was amazing!

Maria was extremely helpful and accommodating. The hotel reminded me of home with the smell of gum trees and the sounds of birds. Quaint rooms and simple breakfasts, o loved that I could go make a cuppa tea at anytime. Sao Jorge is best with a car and car spaces available at Quinta do Canavial.
Matress a bit lumpy.

Breakfast was nice with fresh bread and homemade marmelade.
Very nice host with attention to detail when cleaning the rooms.
Property is very old and could use some refurbishing.
Rooms were generally clean but smelled very stuffy. Even with open windows all day, rooms smelled.

Maria and Eleuterio were amazing. Also, the view is from another world
Basically, nothing :)
