My boyfriend, our 4-year-old son & I truly felt this was exactly what we needed & loved the uniqueness of this stay. We were already recommending this place to our families while we were there & have discussed that we'll definitely be back again. John was a wonderful host & may I say that this was the best experience of hospitality our of all rental places I've been to, so thank you so much for that!

We had a great time staying at the caboose. Our son just turned 4 and loves trains so he loved everything about the caboose. The property was clean and relaxing. It was close to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Viroqua. We would definitely recommend staying here

The caboose is easily one of the most magical tiny homes I have travelled to and what’s more amazing is that you have all of the comforts of home (a/c, wifi, clean and spacious kitchen and bathroom, and even a hot tub)! Better yet is that it is pet friendly so I could travel with and spend an amazing few nights alongside my dog. I could not recommend this property wnough and hope to return some time! John was not only one of the most gracious hosts I’ve encountered, but there were also gifts upon arrival that set the tone for what proved to me a wonderful stay!

What a fun getaway! The caboose is even more amazing in person. The hot tub is a wonderful addition, and the fire pit was is cozy. It was a very hot couple of days when we stayed, and the air conditioner kept us cool. Great stay overall.

The caboose was so cute! Clean and had everything you need. We enjoyed the hot tub and coffee on the deck, taking in the beautiful surroundings.
Just a tip to fellow bikers: the last stretch of road is about 3 miles of gravel. Do-able, but just FYI.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the caboose! We were looking for a place in the woods to get our dogs away from fireworks over the 4th. Took a risk that this place might be quiet enough, and it definitely was. This was actually the first listing that showed up in my VRBO search. We kept looking for a few weeks but kept coming back to this listing and decided to book it...and we are glad we did.
There were nice big towels for using the hot tub, plenty of towels and washcloths in the bathroom, also. The bathroom was nice and big considering the small space, which was nice. The kitchen was perfect -- appreciated the Keurig and the gas stovetop since we did have a bit of rain that interfered with our grilling plans. The dining table was perfect with the drop leafs, we could do a small puzzle in the evening but drop the side leaf when it was time for bed (to make room for the futon bed).
I noticed one review had said they came in at night, and that would be terrifying, because the roads all around are gravel, winding, and a bit narrow. But the hills and country scenery are GORGEOUS, so do get out and about if you can.
The stairs to the caboose are original caboose steps, so they are 3 steep steps getting in and out. Plenty of handrails for humans to use, but our senior dogs struggled a bit with those.
If you are considering staying here, DO IT, you'll love it (just bring the bug spray!).

We stayed in the caboose most of the weekend. Host provided a couple bottles of wine, Netflix, and covered hot tub. Nice weekend.

We really enjoyed our peaceful time there. The caboose is decorated so cute and gives a cozy feel. Beautiful deck to enjoy the natural surroundings with hot tub and fire pit. Since it is an authentic caboose, the futon opens to your bed. The drop leaf table was set for us, thought that was a great touch. Loved the kitchen area, the extra bunks and shower. There is a guest book so you can read what others enjoyed and places to go. Owner thought to have a few games and books, several hooks for towels and clothes, as well as firewood for outside. Weather was warm, but would love to go when it's cooler to enjoy the stove heater. The most relaxing get away we have ever had. If you looking to just veg without the hustle and bustle of city life or commercialism this is the place for you.

We (family of four) had an amazing time staying at the caboose. Our kids (age 7 & 9) especially loved our time there and none of us wanted to leave. The host was very responsive, friendly and clearly takes great pride in his place. 5 stars for sure.

The place is perfect! Peaceful, Quiet, Relaxing .The birds singing and chirping. Was the disconnect from everyday we were looking for. Our host was there if we needed anything or had a question. The accomodations were very inviting. We'll definitely be staying again.Thanks.😊

I came here with my partner and dog as a little vacation we could fit in our schedules. It was everything I hoped for!! We couldn't go out much because we had the dog with us, but it wasn't even an issue because we had such a relaxing time on the property. Sunny days were great on the porch but the enclosed hot tub during a thunderstorm was the highlight!! Definitely would love to come back in the winter season.

I loved everything about this place! It was really cute and cosy for a short getaway with my boyfriend. It was so relaxing sitting in the hot tub listening to the birds chirp in the early morning and evening. John was a great host with all the thoughtful items he provided us at the caboose. We barely needed to contact him because we were well provided for during our entire time there. Thank you for the lovely stay John! Highly recommended!

The hot tub was great! Our favorite part was just hanging on the deck and drinking wine while the kids ran around and played.

Advertised as a 'romantic' getaway - I must point out that it's PERFECT for individual relaxation/downtime - so cozy and peaceful! I believe the accommodations were better than advertised - but keep in mind that the main 'bed' is a futon, so not everyone would find that comfortable. John provided more than essentials, and the place is so cute, with sweet attention to quality & style! You can just stay put OR make little adventures in the 'driftless'. I enjoyed a trip to Lansing, IA and crossing the Mississippi. I drove a 'loop' both sides of the river ...all in one afternoon. And I loved seeing the baby geese with their parents on Rusk Creek on the road to the cabin. The Driftless Education Center, and Coffee on The River were my favorite stops. Be careful of the roller-coaster backroads :) - Best to travel in the daylight! And also, just because the caboose is stationary, doesn't mean you don't have to watch for VERY active train activity when you're out and about - it is part of the scenery, and the experience.

We did NOT book a long enough stay! The caboose is adorable! It was decorated well, clean, quiet and just what we needed for a weekend to unwind and relax. We didnt have enough time to explore the area, but will be back at some point when its warmer to do just that! Highly recommended this property!

Beautiful location with unique accommodations! The host went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The hot tub in the screened in porch was such a treat and made our stay the relaxing getaway we were hoping for. We will definitely be back and would love to see how beautiful it must look during the Fall and Winter seasons.

Had a great time staying at this property. It definitely is out in the middle of now where, so if you are looking for tranquility and peace, this is it! The hot tub was amazing and we definitely took advantage of that. The futon bed, was a tad uncomfortable for my tall significant other, but we managed ok. Wi-Fi, cell service, cleanliness, cuteness, etc., was all amazing. Thank you!

Our trip to the train caboose was as good as it gets! We were supposed to go in January but it happened to be the weekend of a huge snow storm. John was extremely great about communication and flexible. He let us change our date to March so that we wouldn't have to travel in hazardous conditions and we weren't out any money. The stay was great! The caboose was so cool and well decorated. Everything was clean and the fireplace and hot tub were the cherry on top. The area is beautiful and we hope to be back sometime in the fall to see the leaves and do more hiking. I would highly recommend this to anyone! Another plus was being able to bring our dog. 11/10!

This is the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway to recharge and enjoy nature! Even though the property is located in the woods, there are still all the amenities. Warm shower, cable tv, and fast internet. The caboose was perfectly appointed, comfortable, and clean. John is also an amazing host, communicative and accommodating. I highly recommend!

John has created an absolutely wonderful retreat where we could get away from it all. His attention to detail is matched only by the creative decor of the caboose and his generosity as a host. The location is perfect for day trips to Lacrosse and Decorah.
The futon is no match for a queen bed, but the hot tub took care our few aches each morning. We visited in the winter and were not able to take full advantage of the beautiful site, but we very much intend to come back in the spring or fall to enjoy the outdoor amenities, especially the fire pit.
Our sincere thanks to John for the truly relaxing hospitality.
