Welcome to Sugar Bear!

Sugar Bear is a charming 3BR log cabin near the top of Sugar Mountain, close to the ski slopes. Enjoy long-range mountain views, including the peaks of Grandfather Mountain. During the ski season, guests are within walking distance to the slopes of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, less than half a mile or a short 3-mile drive to their main parking area and ski lodge. Enjoy "virtual slopeside" shuttle service! The Sugar Mountain Shuttle can pick you up at the cabin or the resort and drop you off at Sugar Bear or the slopes. Either way, you have virtual slopeside access to the ski slopes!

During the warmer months, enjoy the 18-hole golf course and the tennis courts, less than three (3) miles from the cabin on Sugar Mountain. Downtown Banner Elk is only five (5) miles away, with Lees McRae College, shopping, restaurants, and more. Grandfather Mountain and the popular Profile hiking trails are less than four (4) miles away, and Beech Mountain Ski Resort is an eleven (11) mile drive from Sugar Bear. The town of Seven Devils, with Otter Falls trail and the Hawksnest Snowtubing & Ziplines resort, is eight (8) miles from the cabin.

The towns of Boone and Blowing Rock are both about fifteen (15) miles away. Tweetsie Railroad Theme Park and Appalachian Ski Mountain are about nineteen (19) miles away. The village of Valle Crucis, with its riverfront community park and the original Mast General Store, is only fourteen (14) miles away. The Elk River is three (3) miles away, and the Watauga River is twelve (12) miles away. Watauga Lake is about twenty-five (25) miles. Linville Falls and Linville Caverns are both within twenty (20) miles of Sugar Bear cabin. Sugar Bear cabin is close and convenient to the High Country attractions and many more.

The main level of Sugar Bear boasts wood floors, antler chandeliers, and vaulted, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and exposed beams. The great room features a large HD Smart TV, leather furniture, and a floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplace with gas logs. The adjacent dining table seats six, plus two more on bar stool seats at the kitchen bar top, for a total of eight guests. The kitchen is well equipped to prepare and serve meals to a packed house. Guests can even enjoy the long-range views from the kitchen sink!

Two bedrooms and one full bathroom are on the main level. Both have an HD Smart TV, and one has a queen bed and a glass door leading to the rear deck. The second bedroom has two twin beds, exposed beams, and also has mountain views. The main level full bathroom is central to both bedrooms and the rest of the living area.

Upstairs is a cozy loft with an HD Smart TV, an Xbox game console with a handful of fun games, and a comfy sofa that opens to a queen bed. The master suite is a spacious bedroom featuring a king bed, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, an HD Smart TV, an ensuite bathroom, and a glass door framing stunning mountain views and opening to a Juliette deck.

Sugar Bear features covered porches and open-air decks on the front, rear, and on both sides. The hot tub was added during the summer of 2020. The owners plan to continue upgrading this lovely cabin, so you may well arrive to find a few unexpected amenities. The open-air rear deck on the main level wraps around the side and has outdoor steps going down to the lower level rear deck and into the backyard. The rear deck has cushioned outdoor deck furniture and a stainless gas grill. The lower back porch also enjoys mountain views, has another table and chairs, and wraps around the far side of the house to another open-air deck. The covered front porch features a fun two-seat bench glider, a bistro table for two, and more outdoor seating. The front porch stretches the length of the cabin, leads out onto the open-air side deck and parking area, and curls around to the back deck.

A summary of the amenities includes a washer and dryer, a total of five (5) HD Smart TVs with digital streaming programming and internet TV, an Xbox game console with numerous games to enjoy, WiFi Internet, gas log fireplace, hot tub, and a year-round unobstructed long-range mountain top view.

Sugar Bear is a charming cabin with plenty of creature comforts and lots of fun stuff to do. In addition to the ski slopes, Sugar Mountain Resort has ice skating and snow tubing in wintertime. The Sugar Mountain Public Golf Course and tennis courts open during warmer months. Sugar Bear cabin is a fun, convenient, family-friendly place to enjoy your High Country vacation!

Sugar Bear Cabin has central heat and 2 portable high BTU air conditioning units. The temperatures rarely ever get above the mid-70s up this high in elevation during the summer weeks.

*Currently, Sugar Bear Cabin has central heat but does not yet have central air conditioning. The temperatures rarely ever get above the mid-70s up this high in elevation during the summer weeks. However, the owners plan to upgrade their HVAC by the summer of 2021 to provide central heat AND air conditioning. No guarantees on exact dates, but that is the game plan, and this note will come down once the upgrade is complete.

We skied at sugar mountain. The cabin was not a 10 minute drive to the mountain. The cabin was the best place to return to after a long day on the slopes!
