ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTMENT! NEVER TO STAY AGAIN!!

THE ONLY HIGHLIGHT OF OUR STAY WAS THE BREAKFAST AND THE VERY FRIENDLY STAFF DURING BREAKFAST.

WHEN I HAD SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR A ROOM WITH AN OCEAN VIEW WITH BALCONY AND HAD INITIALLY BEEN GRANTED THIS AND THEN TO BE TOLD NOT POSSIBLE AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE AN 'INTERIOR ROOM' WITH NO WINDOW WE IMMEDIATELY MADE CONTACT WITH RECEPTION AND TOLD WE HAD TO UPGRADE WITH A FURTHER $60.00 CHARGE. WE ACCEPTED THIS AND UPON ARRIVAL WE WERE GIVEN A ROOM STILL WITH NO WINDOW BUT A GLASS OUTLOOK TO THE STREET AND A LITTLE OF OCEAN. I HAD WANTED THIS STAY TO HAVE BEEN EXTRA SPECIAL AS WE WERE CELEBRATING OUR 49TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! WHEN WE ENTERED OUR ROOM WE HAD 2 SINGLE BEDS!!!!! I WAS BEYOND SHOCKED AND CLEARLY FRUSTRATED WITH THE WHOLE BOOKING AND VOWED TO NEVER STAY AGAIN. THE ROOM ITSELF WAS CLEAN, BUT NO WATER IN FRIDGE! I WAS NOT GAME TO ASK FOR ANY IN CASE WE WERE CHARGED AGAIN. I DID RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM RECEPTION APOLGIZING FOR THE 2 SINGLE BEDS BUT THERE WAS NO MENTION OF A CHANGE IN ROOM ONLY A $40.00 DEDUCTION FROM THE "UPGRADE" WE HAD TO PAY. PARKING WAS ANOTHER ISSUE. WE HAD TO PAY A FURTHER $20.00 FOR PARKING OR LEAVE OUR CAR IN THE STREET. WITH THE CRIME RATE SKYROCKETING IN CAIRNS WE WERE NOT LEAVING OUR CAR IN THE STREET. SO WE HAD TO USE THE PARKING IN THE NEXT BUILDING WHICH MEANT LUGGING OUR LUGGAGE ETC FROM 2 DIFFERENT LEVELS. WE ARE 71YRS & 67YRS OF AGE AND THIS WAS ANOTHER DISAPPOINTMENT TO OUR SPECIAL WEEKEND AWAY.! RECEPTION HAD 2 LADIES, ONE WAS VERY HELPFUL(SHE RUNG OUR ROOM TWICE APOLOGIZING FOR THE ERRORS MADE DURING BOOKING) BUT THE OTHER WAS NOT HELPFUL, CURT AND DEFINITELY NOT WELCOMING.

Its saving grace was the central position and excellent roof top bar and restaurant.

Central position and roof top bar was excellent. Service at the rooftop bar was excellent too.

I stayed a week so rubbish piled up in my room. They need to collect rubbish at least once during my stay.I wanted a few more pods of coffee. The grim male attendant wanted me to pay for them. On principle I wouldn’t pay extra, after all I was staying for 7 days. Next time I will book 4 days and then book 3 days so room is serviced, rubbish is taken, clean towels offered and coffee pods replenish. I wanted to book an excursion but staff had no idea. I then wanted a shuttle to get to Port Douglas. Staff had no idea.

Stay at Oaks Hotel at Esplanade

The location is awesome. If you're staying here you don't have to hire a car.

The Room was ok and clean. I paid the premium price for sea view and all but it was just ok not that great as i expected. I was given room in third floor where there was 4th floor available on the hotel. The parking is $20/night. Overall stay was nice. In average rating its 8/10.

Happy with the room, hotel and staff. Just don't think it is designed/ placed as good as it could be

The location in relation to the waters edge was great.

The hotels only one entrance was right next to Mc Donalds where everyone is sitting on the steps, smoking etc. The elevators were quite slow to come down/up, open and close. The parking was quite disappointing, you pay $20/ day for 1 car park on the roof top but you have to go up and down the elevator to get to the one main door and then walk up (where cars drive and is quite steep) to get to your car. There is no stairs or elevator access to the carpark. There is minimal parking on the street near accomodation making it quite hard if you do not pay for parking with them.

Great location and very clean and comfortable. Rooftop restaurant excellent too

We stayed in an “internal” room. Very small and no window to outside provided complete quiet in a noisy part of town. Bathroom large and plenty of bench space.

With 2 cases in the room we could hardly move around the bed

Hotel’s location is perfect.

Best weekend away.

Absolutely best location and the staff were lovely. The room was a really decent size with a king bed. Would definitely come back.

One elevator for the whole complex wasn't the best but also, that's nothing the company can do.

They advertise as 2 bedroom apartments but it’s only 2 hotel rooms with a connecting door. Therefore you couldn’t make your own meals or enjoy a drink on a balcony. Very disappointed

we found our stay to be very relaxing and wonderfully located.

we love that the Oaks is right in front of the lagoon, in the heart of the city. Our room was spacious and comfortable. it was our second stay.

I'm tired!!!! We went for a long awaited short break and came home more tired than we left.

DIDN'T LIKE!!! THERE WASN'T MUCH AT ALL TO LIKE TO BE HONEST. and I hate to say that 'cause i hhaaattteee to whinge

The restaurant was above our room and every time someone moved a chair on the tiled floor it "refurberated" through to our room. Seemed to quiten around 10pm ish but started again just after 5.30a.m. The cleaners then seemed to think it ok to vacuum just outside our room at 7.00a.m. The place has ONE lift for all their rooms which is extremely small and slow and NO parking, so Booking.com's explanation of "Public parking can be found nearby" is not clear enough. Paid good money for an executive suite that you would struggle to swing a cat in with 'ocean views - huh? There are three very dirty, very small windows so hard to see anything through them. The breakfast was extremely basic but the service was shocking. Firstly the FORGOT my husband breakfast completely, then the pineapple juice had gone off and I had ordered a half strength coffee which I then had to ask for 3 times before it was finally brought out and was basically hot milk so not drinkable.
