About this hostel
“Creature Comforts” is a unit complex built in the 1960’s for budget accommodation purposes on fabulous K'Gari (Fraser Island). Centrally located at Happy Valley on the World Heritage-Listed K'Gari (Fraser Island), Creature Comforts is 50 meters from Happy Valley Retreat and only 150 meters to 75 Mile Beach.
The Creature Comforts complex has 2 units available: “Marloo” sleeping up to 4 people and “Eli” sleeping up to 12 people. Each unit has its own private bathroom. There is an outdoor communal Camp Kitchen available to both Units.

“Marloo” is a budget accommodation unit designed to be the next best thing to camping on the beach with toilets, hot showers, running water and 24 hour power (48v solar panel battery system) with back-up generator. No more dragging all the gear up the beach and losing hours of lost time setting up and pulling down your camp!
The Marloo Unit has 3 bedrooms and its own private bathroom (hot shower, toilet and vanity):
• Bedroom 1: 1 x Queen bed
• Bedroom 2: 1 x King Single bunk bed
• Bedroom 3: 1 x Single bunk bed
The Marloo has been freshly painted internally and the total complex is powered by a 48v solar panel battery system (with back-up generator). With fly-screens on the doors, it is comfortable during the warmer months with wall-mounted fans in all rooms.
There is an outdoor communal camp kitchen (shared by the 2 units) with large stainless steel bbq, kitchen sink, servery, complete with numerous huge 8-10 seater timber tables - perfect for alfresco dining. The Camp Kitchen also has 2 upright fridge/freezers (one for each unit). All pots/pans/plates/cutlery is supplied.
ADDED EXTRAS:
• All beds have mattress protectors and a pillow (you will need to bring your own bed sheets and towels)
• 24-hour power (48v solar power system with back-up generator)
Make your next stay at K'Gari (Fraser Island) hassle-free with all the basics already in place for you and the family. Marloo is a cheap alternative to camping for your next stay on the Island.
THE LOCATION:
Centrally located (approximately half-way up the eastern coast of K'Gari), Happy Valley is the perfect base to head north and explore the likes of Eli Creek, Maheno Shipwreck, Indian Head and Champagne Pools. Heading south will take you to Lake Wabby, Eurong and across the Island to Central Station and Lake McKenzie. Explore beaches, lakes, creeks, rainforests, 4x4 tracks, sand-blows and endless scenery. A short 150m walk along the elevated boardwalk provides direct access to the beach.
PLEASE NOTE: we do have on-site Property Caretakers who reside in the adjacent unit at this complex. This is NOT a party Unit and all guests are asked to be respectful of both our caretakers and your neighbours and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm.
The entire community of Happy Valley is fully enclosed by a dingo fence to secure the safety of families. The Fraser Island Retreat is only a 50m walk and provides a restaurant, bar, fuel and general store. Happy Valley has access to full Telstra coverage.

We had one of the best stays ever at Fraser. Jacquie & Russel was awesome care takers. Will see us again in 2025.

Creature Comforts is a great place to stay which caters to a large group perfectly. It is clean and tidy with great onsite caretakers (Russell and Jacquie) who were there if we needed them but otherwise left us to ourselves. It was my second time staying at the property, once for a family trip and this time for a boys fishing trip. I will definitely be back.

Simple place to stay great deck shared with neighbours and friendly caretaker

The host and caretakers were great. Property as advertised inside, well stocked kitchen area and Happy Valley is a good central location on the island. Only downside was we didn't realise that the other unit slept 12+ people and consequently we had to deal with a lot of noise from large groups sharing the same spaces with us. Would recommend if you are a group, but not for a family of 4 or less.

Clean, comfortable and convenient. Might not be as nice in bad weather due to majority of time spent in the communal outdoor kitchen dining area. Phone reception in the area not great but kinda nice to help you ‘switch off’! Would stay again.

It doesn’t have full Telstra coverage as advert. Only full 3G. We needed it for my sons course online and would’ve gone elsewhere if known !
Owner wanted to lecture me for asking about advertised full coverage? Said I was rude to prop manager for asking although she didn’t answer the 2 calls I made!
Sparsely furnished. 2 rooms are hot and no windows. Bathroom is great!

Nice clean and tidy unit that we stayed in. Camp kitchen best and tidy. Own fridge to use and caretakers pleasant and welcoming. Definitely worth a stay here as it’s pretty central to most attractions on the island.

We enjoyed our stay and found the caretakers to be friendly and helpful. They kindly let us check in early on our first day.

This was a good stay for a few days and as with anywhere on Fraser (whoops K’gari) a great location. No lounge and sharing kitchen/outdoor area with other unit (10 people) not ideal (they left the barbie unclean a couple of times, etc)
Managers stay in adjoining unit, helpful nice couple an let us enjoy. 😊👍

We had a lovely time staying here! Location was perfect with all areas we wanted to visit within a days trip. Facilities were clean and great for a group with the shared kitchen a lovely place to sit, eat and enjoy each other's company. We were lucky and had the place to ourselves but the area was perfectly organised to keep each groups' belongings separate. Lisa and her partner were absolutely great! Very helpful with suggestions and super easy to communicate with. Very happy with our experience and will definitely stay again!

Love staying here
Great space for a group and forces the kids to get off their screens.

Great place for large groups
No frills property that was perfect for a large group. Property manager was easy to deal with. Property as described. We rented both units so had the place to ourselves (apart from the onsite caretaker). New additions to the property include new batteries (better electricity) and a microwave. Washing machine doesn't work anymore though. I would suggest adding a few microwave safe containers, as there aren't any suitable ones there currently.
Thanks, we had a great time!

Creature Comforts at Happy Valley
Just stayed here for a week with 4 mates. Had a ball, great location to do a heap of exploring and close enough to Sandy Cape that if you watch the tides you can do it easy.
Place was great to stay in, not fancy, just friendly and relaxed after a day’s fishing. The on-site managers were excellent, very friendly and accommodating.
We even met the owner Gilly as he was doing some upgrades and he was great as well.
All five of us had a ball and are looking at returning next year.

We had a large group and this was a fantastic place for us to stay. Very basic and simple BUT exactly what we were after. Outdoor area is really well set up and so close to pub/convenience store

Great location
Great place to stay for our time at Fraser Island. We stayed in the Marloo unit, it is a basic with 3 bedrooms and wall fans and a bathroom. It was immaculately clean and has an excellent, well equipped outdoor kitchen area. The care takers were great and helped out with heaps of local knowledge.
We would definitely stay here again.

Fraser Getaway
Overall the property was great. Host was very friendly and helpful. Only downside is the limited power available on site restricting use a toaster and Coffee Machine

Great place to stay
Central location in Happy Valley - central to the attractions of K’Gari - Eli Creek, Lake Mackenzie etc. Lisa was very helpful through the booking and check in process. The property is close to the beach and is opposite the Happ Valley shop. Highly recommend.

The property was much better then we expected - we booked both sides of the property and there ample room for our group of 18 - including 9 children! It had all the equipment you needed in the large outdoor kitchen. perfect base for our family reunion and the onsite managers were fantastic - although they lived in the unit next door - our privacy for the stay was never compromised and they were friendly and helpful with local info and for anything we needed. We would love to come back again as it was great for our needs.
