About this house rental
Pirates Perch- Meredith Lodging
Relax beside the serene Nestucca River in Pirates Perch, a three-bedroom home with a wall of soaring living room windows in Pacific City. Lined with trees, the large, slow-moving river empties to the sea in the estuary of Bob Straub State Park, where you can walk miles of sandy dunes with outstanding ocean views. You’ll find Pirates Perch an ideal bird-watching spot, and an excellent launchpad for fishing and boating from your own private dock.
The living room is full of sunlight and river views from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and you’ll stay cozy with the wood stove and comfy furnishings. A fully equipped galley kitchen and dining area mean you can eat in; if you don’t catch your own salmon or crab, you can purchase dory-caught fish at the grocery across from the boat ramp at Cape Kiwanda. Three bedrooms and two full baths make it possible to invite extra family and friends to join you.
A fenced yard means the dog can come, too, and the extra-large garage gives you space to park a boat. It’s a five-minute drive to the beach, where you can comb the tidepools, hike the dunes, watch surfers, and gaze in wonder at the massive Haystack Rock offshore. From galleries, groceries and award-winning beer at the Pelican Pub, Pacific City is a great spot for a getaway, and Pirates Perch gives you all that and a sunny perch on the river as well!

This house is on the river, a short walk from the grocery store, kayak rentals, restaurants and a coffee shop. The beach was an easy 20 min walk and would be faster without kids. The river was amazing to swim in on the hot afternoons. I wish we’d brought floaties or tubes for it. The house was well laid out and had all the amenities needed. Bringing our dogs was a huge benefit. We’ll be back!

We opted for a river front property over a beach front for this trip. We had spectacular views of the river and even got to see the Northern Lights over the river. We had a great time. There were a couple of really dirty dishes, but aside from that our trip was wonderful.

The house is walking distance to the beach, shops, and other local attractions. Nice view with some comforts but several items revealing poor maintenance. I've submitted the problems we encountered VRBO.
Kitchen vent hood was broken and vented into the room. The metal bed frames were very squeaky and required me to purchase some tools to fix. There are sharp, exposed carpet tacks in the dining area where there is a strip of missing/damaged carpet. The kitchenette area seating has a section with no cushion, watch out when sitting down because it's just the edge of a 2x4 under there. Doors close roughly and floors creak which disturbs the light sleepers upstairs at night if someone needs to use the bathroom.

We enjoyed the home and the view from the deck. Great place to stay with our dogs. There are quite a few stairs to get to the living area which may be an issue for some.

Upon arrival, house looked like it did in the pictures. Love the location and the semi secure fence out back (Needs lighting at night). We traveled with our dogs, so this was a gem compared to most rentals in the area. We originally booked for 5 nights but enjoyed staying here so we extended to 7 nights. Chester’s market was walking distance and other shops as well. The week we stayed, it was raining. We had to maneuver the car in such a way as the driveway was flooded. We only traveled with 1 car, it fit right in the garage.
We were spooked one night as we came back to the rental late and found the lock box open, garage key pad open, and the lower gated area open. Come to find out it was just the gardeners, but my kid and I searched all up and down the rental just in case.
I would definitely consider renting here again, we make a trip to PC 2x a year and this was our first year renting, we usually stay at Cape Kiwanda INN or at a friends.
This rental also provided a dog crate in the laundry room! I have already recommended this location to friends and family!

Where should I start? I really shouldn’t be allowed to review! The photos look way better than the actual property!
We were unsure where to enter so we picked the door next to the garage. We enter into a tiny 1950’s kitchen. The “clean” put away dishes had dried food caked on them. Fine! I cleaned them all before we ate.
My kids 13 & 8 were stoked to see rock band in the loft…during an ice storm it was a relief for a mama so I could unload the car and get dinner started. It did not work!
During our stay, it was freezing outside and no matter what we set the thermostats too, it was equally as cold inside too.
My daughter and I (mom) slept in the downstairs master. My husband and son slept upstairs. When I (mom) went to bed the whole bed smelled like horrible body odor. I know it wasn’t my 8yr old daughter and I wear deodorant but all I could suspect was she he sheets/blankets were not washed between guests. Which grossed me out, especially since I could smell the odor on me after sleeping in the bed with my daughter…on top of the blankets/sheets. The fenced backyard had tons of dog poop in it from past stays who didn’t want to clean up after their own dog. RUDE!
Pluses to the home: xl dog kennel in the laundry room! Saved us having to lug ours upstairs.
Fenced backyard area! My traveling dogs don’t potty on leash so the tiny yard was perfect after spending an hour cleaning up others poops from it in an ice storm.
The river/personal dock! Beautiful view if you forget the house your standing in and even better if you have a boat or a kayak to forget where your staying!
The deer who bed down in the yard! As southern oregon coast born and raised, I loved taking my dogs potty at 8pm to see deer bedded down in the yard! They were chill, let my nosey dog walk by to the fenced yard to potty and back inside. Probably my favorite part of stay at the house period!
I left notes of issues on the kitchen counter including bedroom window blinds strung over the headboard. Unsure if it was seen by property management.
However, it was available in a pinch and that I’m greatful! We made it limping into PC in an ice storm and finished xmas in netarts not having to break any kids hearts!

I had a wonderful time! House was beautiful and stocked with anything we needed! You get your own dock to use by the river which we could see the fish jump! We saw deer walk by at night which was cool! I love the decor and attention to detail! Bed was so comply furniture was cute but pretty short and was a bit of a challenge getting up l! This place is highly recommended!

The deck overlooking the river was so nice to relax on. And it’s just a short walk to the beach and many fun little restaurants. Farmers markets across the street on Sunday was a treat too.

Riverfront house
This was a great house for a family with older kids. Being on the river was great. We had a great time being able to canoe and paddle board from the house and it was a short drive to the beach. The house is on a busy house so watch your small kids and dogs. The yard is nice for dogs though and our dog did great.

first family vacay since before pandemic 2021
The place we stayed at looked nothing like what was represented on the internet. The outside furniture was so mildewed dirty and disgusting we could not sit on it it definitely had not been cleaned once all summer and I wasn't going to clean it for them. Cracks in the wall, broken cracked microwave, toaster only toasted on one side of the bread . TV system so complicated it took us an hour to figure out how to watch the news. The shower in the downstairs bathroom is almost unusable and I am handicapped so I could not do those stairs all day everyday and go up to the top floor to shower it was all I had to get in and out of that house once a day so I could enjoy time with my family out on the beach which was awesome the best thing about Pacific City is there Beach you can drive on for handicapped people it's the only way to go. We left town 11: 00am on a Monday and not one of the three gift shops were open, my grandkids were extremely disappointed. Of course being there with my family made it awesome our first family vacation since before the pandemic. All my kids and most of my grandkids so that made it fantastic. If it hadn't been for them and the drive on beach, the house wouldn't have even got one star

Great house, great location
We definitely enjoyed our stay. The house was lovely and perfect for our family. The kids really liked the decor and the game area. Loved the private dock. We fished a lot and enjoyed the peaceful environment. There is a grocery store about 1 block away and a couple restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely stay again.

Peaceful Oasis with wildlife
We really enjoyed our time away on the banks of the nestucca and a short drive away from the beach. Just we needed. Super fun to see all of the birds exploring the river. Great house!

Great location on the river and near the ocean
Enjoyed our stay on the OR coast in this sweet home. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We brought our paddle boards and paddled the river. Loved how close it was to the beach as well. It was very easy to travel up and down the coast from here. The nearby dunes were a fun adventure.

Lovely Riverfront Pet Friendly House
We loved the river view, the deck and the fenced area for our dogs. The house decor was very well done, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed (except space). In general, the kitchen and living area were smaller than we anticipated from the pictures. There was absolutely no space in the kitchen for pantry items and very little counter space or floor space. One of the kitchen cabinet doors fell off and one of the knives (none of which were sharp) broke under normal use. Overall, we had a great stay. But it was a bit too small and not the highest quality for the price.

Short review
Overall, the house was great. I did have to try and fix 2 toilets during our stay. One would not flush at all and the upstairs toilet handle had to be held down the entire time the toilet tried to flush. No big deal, just annoying. This is our first time renting a house as opposed to a hotel or camping. The cleaning crew didn't tell us they had arrived and we took more time to pack up our cars. I did, however, clean the kitchen, start the dishwasher, stripped all bedding, and bathroom towels and did 3 loads of laundry. Had I known the cleaning crew had arrived, I would have hustled my butt out of there. As a result, I got charged a late fee. That, too, is fine. Rules are rules. Would have been nice if they knocked on the door to let us know they were there instead of waiting outside by the garage door where I couldn't see them. Thank you.

Lovely house and great location
We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is well-located on the lovely Nestucca River very close to the beach and town. We enjoyed our stay very much. There is lots to do in the area. Our only disappointment was that the listing said the house had a kayak available for use, which wasn’t the case. Happily, we had our own SUP and there is a kayak rental place just a few doors down the road.

Beautiful location
The house is in a beautiful location, right on the river and close to the beach and restaurants, and is also well-stocked. The only real problem is that certain areas of the house were apparently not cleaned at all. For example, there were lots of crumbs on the couches. But the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms all were clean.

Enjoyable weekend
Great, clean beach house with lots of toys for kids and perfect spot for our dog. The house is on the main road and is a bit busy so be prepared for some road noise.

Birthday weekend
I rented this property to accommodate a visit from my mom to celebrate my birthday. It was my first time staying in such a place and I typically would not spend such an amount (when all is said and done with cleaning and “administrative” fees) but I saved up and wanted it to be a good birthday celebration for myself and my family. Upon arrival, we were unable to get in and had to wait for approximately an hour for a maintenance crew to change the lock. Also, when the lockbox was finally open, there was no key. Once we got in, while bright with a beautiful river to look upon, we noticed dust, cobwebs, dog poop in yard (which was not properly groomed), moss and dirt in windowsills, stained towels, almost empty soap containers, and only one extra roll of toilet paper despite multiple guests. Again, while the scenery was beautiful, I was super disappointed to have spent so much money to have not been provided with proper comforts. Finally, due to COVID, my trip from March was cancelled and when I tried to use the credit I was promised from that trip to apply to this one, I was told over the phone by your representative that I would instead receive a full refund. This was never given to me and I had to spend more money on top of that to rent this place. I received an email from your company several weeks later (last week) that you would not refund my $637. All of this leaves a very unfortunate impression in my mind about your company, how you do business, and I question what you really do with my hard earned money. Disappointed to say the very least. If you would like to contact me about my concerns, I also have pictures of the dust and overall condition of my visit.
