About this cottage rental
Welcome to our quaint little cottage nestled in the heart of old Summerville. The cottage is a little over a century old.; and, actually pre-dates the main house. We tried hard to strike a balance between updating the property and preserving its authentic historic charm. The cottage enjoys the shade of beautiful, majestic oak trees whose limbs almost touch the ground. Guests are allowed to tour the gardens next to the main house, built by the Prettyman family when Summerville was a sleepy little town.
The cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with a king-bed, the other with a full bed that accommodates 4 comfortably . Brand-new range, microwave, refrigerator, and washer/dryer . Also, new 4K HD TV's in living area and master bedroom. Kitchen is fully-stocked with coffee-maker ,toaster, blender , cookware, and utensils for those that like to fix their own meals. However, with so many stellar restaurants in the area, dining out is often the best option.

What a perfect place for us to stay with our dogs until we could move into our new home. The cottage has everything you need and is a perfect location to visit all the wonderful things Summerville has and close proximity to areas of interest. Loved the gardens and beautiful trees and especially the hospitality of Mr George.

This cottage is quaint, and the property around it is very pretty. It is a quiet setting, but yet not too far from the town. The cottage is equipped with everything You need to be comfortable. And it was very clean. The 90-year-old man who lives in the large house next to it is an extra bonus. He is friendly warm and Kind. He loves to talk about the history Of the town, and he gives a wonderful tour of the big house he lives in.

When we arrived we were greeted by two cockroaches, one dead and one alive. After walking through the cottage we found someone else’s underwear and other dirty items in a drawer and an article of clothing wedged between the bed and the wall. We immediately left as we were concerned with the cleanliness. The only offer of remediation was to send the same cleaners who were supposed to clean it the first time. I was uncomfortable staying there with my ten month old so we ended up getting a hotel room. The host asked if I had contacted VRBO which I had not and proceeded to tell me VRBO would not allow a refund which was not true. When I contacted VRBO they said it was at her discretion. I mentioned this and never heard anything back. I was very much looking forward to staying here after reading other reviews but would not recommend after the experience we had.

The home had a lot of character. The wife noticed that under and behind the couch hadn't been cleaned in a while. The door leading to the porch sticks and the door knob is about to come off. The lamp near the main bedroom door is broken. The wife also noticed when washing dishes, there was sediment in the water supply. The home needs a thorough maintenance inspection. Everything else was perfect, and the owners were a delight.

My husband & I visited friends n the Summerville area for a week. Property is n a lovely neighborhood, very close 2 the cute downtown area. We enjoyed staying n the cottage, which was clean & comfortable. We also appreciated that the home was pet friendly. The owners were extremely accommodating, wanting 2 ensure that we had all that we needed 2 enjoy our stay.
George is a treasure. So friendly & kind. We enjoyed the tour of his wonderful Southern home & learning first-hand about the history of the house. It was nice 2 b able 2 explore the grounds w/ our dog Cooper.

We loved the cottage! The grounds are beautiful, Allison is lovely and Mr. George is a gem, news paper every morning and flowers at our door. The location can't be beat it's easy to get to everything you will want to explore. We will visit again for sure!

We came to Summerville to visit friends in the area and to experience the quaint village. Mission accomplished. The cottage is located on a beautiful property just a few blocks from parks, churches, and village restaurants. We’ll be back.

Comfortable, clean, convenient. Love this carriage house, beds are so comfortable. My husband and I brought our Westie and a guest on this trip. Very pet friendly. Close to Main Street shops and restaurants. Loved the local newspaper delivery every morning. The gardens are beautiful. Very private. We will return.

If you're looking for a wonderful location, full of Charleston charm and a comfortable, cozy home--this is it. We stayed for just about a month to visit family and explore the area and this location was just perfect to use as a "home base". The cottage has a wonderful rustic charm and was very comfortable for the two of us.
Our host was simply wonderful---this was our first VRBO experience; I can only hope that every host is as thoughtful and caring as this host. During our month there, we had a couple of very small things arise and they were addressed easily and instantly--that was really nice!!
The grounds and the main house on the property are beautiful and George, who lives in the main house is just warm and charming man who adds to the flavor of the cottage.
I would easily recommend staying here!!

Enjoyed this quaint, historic cottage, which was beautifully decorated on a gorgeous property! As most other reviews have stated, George was definitely a huge bonus and we so enjoyed visiting with him. His warm southern hospitality was wonderful! The location of the property was excellent. The only downside was a distinct musty smell, but I imagine this comes with the territory of staying in an historic cottage.

My husband and I stayed at Allison and Johnny's cottage when we had no place to stay because we sold our house and had to move out before our new construction was complete. We were grateful that they accepted pets. Although we had lived in Mt. Pleasant, SC since 1986 we had never spent much time in Summerville which is quite close. We enjoyed checking out all of the great restaurants through downtown Summerville. The AC did break while we were there for a day, but Allison had it repaired by the end of the day that it quit working which we appreciated!

Perfect for us and our two kiddos. Location was perfect for where we needed to be and wanted to go. Property was clean, decorated and furnished nicely. Very quiet. Nice to have access to the garden and whatnot. (Tip for families with little littles - I wouldn’t say the inside is toddler friendly - too many tempting and breakable items. Luckily, My kiddos are older.) Our only negative was internet was a little slower than what we needed/expected as husband had to work remotely while there but it wasn’t a deal breaker; he simply used his hotspot and was perfectly fine and set up his stuff in the dining room. George (lives in main house) made sure we had paper each day and is sweet and friendly. Allison (owner/VRBO) is fantastic - prompt to reply to any questions and extremely helpful. Would recommend for a couple, or families with kid(s) maybe 5yr+). Would stay here again for sure next time we visit our family in the area.

Allison has a great Vrbo! The cottage is exactly as pictured, and the description is accurate. Downtown Summerville is a few blocks away, with good restaurants and a great coffee shop. Allison is great with communication before and during the visit. George ensured we had the morning paper, graciously allowed us to tour the main historic house, and shared many stories. This Vrbo is definately a return visit!

My husband and I had a wonderful time during our two week stay! The house was comfortable and spacious enough for us and our two dogs, and we were able to easily work during the day. George was very kind, and we very much enjoyed spending time with him and touring the main house. If we need to stay in Summerville again, we will certainly book with Allison!

We loved the character of the cottage and the beautiful grounds. It was a pleasure to get to know George over our 2 week stay. He truly loves visitors and goes above and beyond to make you feel like you are staying at an extension of his home. The neighborhood is lovely and in walking distance to downtown. We worked during our 2 week stay and had no issues. Our pup loved it too! Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay very much at this cottage. The owner of the main house (owners father) was very charming and sweet and left the paper for us each morning.
Very pet friendly, our pup especially enjoyed the toys provided. Very open outside area.
Bedrooms are upstairs, not a problem for us just wasn’t sure if it was listed. It was unusually cold for Summerville during our visit and there was a very big difference between the downstairs and the upstairs. The owner did provide heaters which helped a lot downstairs. Upstairs was very hot so we turned the heat off and that did the trick. I must admit I am very sensitive to temperature though.

Well equipped. Wonderful beds with linens/soft & snuggly. Walk to town. Beautiful neighborhood with old historic homes. Easy communication with owners who were responsive to any request. Highly recommend. Great for dogs with garden paths, well lite for night walks. Safe community. Quiet.

The cottage is originally over 100 years old, so quaint and very comfortable. Close to everything but Summerville has traffic so plan ahead. Loved the gardens on the property and the owner's welcoming charm.

The beautifully landscaped property’s close proximity to Summerville’s downtown and all that it offers, wonderful visits with the historic main house’s owner and grand storyteller, and the cozy, well-appointed cottage all made our visit perfect for the four of us and our pup. A real newspaper awaited us each morning, and we were even gifted with a beautiful flowering plant when we departed. In between, we had everything we needed for a most comfortable stay.

Arriving to the cottage easy. We were told there is a lockbox at the front door and was sent a code from Allison however no lockbox wasn’t sure where the front door was. We walked around to try and figure it out all of the spiderweb with big spiders I was shocked so bad I took pictures we were getting eaten alive by all of the bugs it was horrible. We have a service dog who was getting bit too this isn’t happening. We looked through a door window and figured this must be the right place from the pictures so we tried the door and it opened. The front door had small windows and 1 was broken out and covered with cardboard and duct tape you can see it had been like that for a while more picture. Who rents a home with no way to securely lock your doors and feel safe?
We started looking around the main floor and opened the fridge it is a tight fight getting into kitchen for the fridge size and location. The home owners said in the write up the fridge was new well the controls unit was hanging down in the fridge. Sadly there was broccoli, liquid what looked like shredded cheese left in the fridge, mold on the seal and around glass top of the food crisper along with bugs underneath the crisper drawers and more crumbs in the crisper drawer more pictures. The freezer had ice however there was some kind of crumbs in the leftover ice along with food it was not nice more pictures. On the counter was a dawn to use for dishes but it was empty adding water might have worked for a one time use thank god I had brought my own soap & cleaners just in case you never know. I had Clorox wipes and started wiping it out when finally I said enough is enough. We stopped cleaning and decided we weren’t staying there because of all of the issues up to this point. Well if that wasn’t bad enough we needed a plug in to charge our phone mine was at 7% and the only one we found was behind the couch and OmGod the dog fur and bugs and what looked like Cheerios, dirt nope we can’t do this. Believe me we tried many times to overlook the issues but we meet our limits now.
We called Allison she called us back shortly made excuses for the door window she didn't seem concerned with what we told her we had been through and call ended. Called her back asked for full refund we were leaving. We also called Vrbo while waiting explained everything did get approval from Vrbo after sending several ugly pictures and packed up & left she agreed to refund us. Maybe things will get fixed & clean.

The pictures for this property were spot on!!
The house was perfect for my 81 year old mother and myself. My only complaint is that we were out during most of our stay and pretty much came to the house at night to sleep. We did enjoy tea in the mornings in the porch.
The house was spotless and well stocked with everything you would need for your stay. I was also surprised to see beach chairs, towels and beach toys for kids.
I highly recommend this cottage house and would definitely come back!
Best regards,
Evelyn Torres

Summerville was a great place to be able to go everywhere from. We liked being able to get out of the hustle and bustle of Charleston. The cottage was cute, comfortable, and clean. The bathroom upstairs is tiny but has everything you need. Downstairs is more spacious but the only shower/tub is upstairs. Rooms are generous and comfortable. Ideal for a couple, couple and child, or a couple of friends. Grounds are gorgeous.

We (wife, lab retriever and me) loved our stay at this lovely and convenient( 5 min to Summerville and less than 1/2 hour to z Charleston) in the lovely guest house behind old southern main home. Guest house was clean and had plenty of room for all of us…. Owner greeted us shortly after arrival and was so gracious….. if visiting Charleston we would stay again

Amazing cottage
Beautiful cottage on historic southern estate. With 2 acres of grounds you feel secluded and peaceful as you enjoy the screened in outside porch yet are only a short half mile from the center of town. Very clean and excellent customer service.

Beautiful Stay
Wow, wow, wow! What an amazing stay at this beautiful property! Allison is a fantastic property manager, and Mr. George, her father, is a fantastic neighbor. He made the stay more enjoyable and took us to his local favorite restaurants. He came over the night we arrived and we had a nice chat about him, the property, and all the flowers he grows. Mr. George has two cats that you might see around the grounds occasionally. They are sweet, beautiful, and well-behaved. He also has a rabbit that will make a rare appearance in the driveway, so be careful. The little house came stocked with all the toiletries you would need to stay there. Everything was clean when we arrived. The house is walking distance away from the town, and we took advantage of that! I highly recommend staying at this house if you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Summerville area!

Great Cottage!
This is a perfect location to walk to Summerville downtown AND access the Interstate into Charleston. Allison and George are wonderful to communicate with and we feel we’ve made a new friend with George! The cottage is well equipped, I’d only suggest you bring a good knife if you are planning to do some cooking like us. There ARE knives, but just basic ones. Our favorite place was the screened in porch watching the rain gentle fall or reading a book or just relaxing with a morning beverage. The gardens are lovely to wander in too! Beds are very comfortable and linens are excellent! Very good washer and dryer too! :-)

My husband , pooch and I stayed for 2 weeks. The cottage was charming comfortable and well equipped. The location was perfect walkable to town and short rides to Charleston and beach. The grounds were full of Camelias and azaleas.
The best part was dealing with Allison and her Dad George. Southern hospitality at its best !
Will definitely be back .
