About this house rental
Located in a deep water bend of Norris Lake, Afternoon Sun offers two amazing vacations in one. A modern mountain home, situated on 5 wooded, peaceful acres with abundant wildlife and all the comforts and conveniences needed to perfectly sleep 16 people. Once feeling relaxed and rested, pack up the tram for the 2.5 minute ride down to the largest dock on the lake. Including a 1000 sq ft upper deck, there is plenty of space to park/use your lake toys, entertain your family/friends, and prepare/serve the days meals.
Once your coolers and bluetooth speakers batteries are near empty, the days last light still won't have reached the mountain peaks opposite you. Watch the majestic sunset across the backdrop of the surrounding mountains or it's time to retreat back to the house and unwind on one of the decks/porches, by one of the two gas fireplaces, around the wood-burning firepit, or on any of the brand new furniture. Finish one of the best days of your year planning the next one's adventures where you can take advantage of our high speed internet to re-book "Afternoon Sun" for your next lake and mountain retreat!
A very comfortable 4,292 sq/ft modern home (2007) that features a luxury double decker dock (1000 sq/ft), 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 5+ acres of fun outdoor space with custom constructed fire pit, outdoor shower, large outdoor patio for grilling, covered porch and lower patio with hot tub overlooking the lake/sunsets, and a screened in porch with a propane fireplace. In addition, the property conveniently offers a custom tram (holds 1000 lbs) that arrives at the main level of the property and completes a 2.5 minute ride down to the dock (8 - 15 stairs remaining once you arrive at the dock; depends on lake level).
The luxury double decker dock and deep water (35 ft from edge of dock) makes for complete afternoons swimming in the Afternoon Sun of Norris Lake. Ample outdoor furniture allows for all family and friends to lay out, play with lake toys, ski, and watch the sunset from the best positioned dock in East TN.
The cozy modern home offers the best of East TN yet is conveniently located 9 minutes (most are 30+) from the interstate at exit 129 (Rocky Top) where a Cracker Barrel and liquor store are both located. In addition, due to its location, the property has complete HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET. (We stress this as many homes on the lake have satellite internet due to their distance and remoteness. Satellite internet has bandwidth and data limitations. With our internet, you can stream movies, stream music, or, if needed, take video conferences calls all day long without interruption. We recommend the more enjoyable options.)
The main level features the master suite with a private walk out to the covered deck and views of the private lake property, king bed, crib, private bath w/ walk-in shower & jacuzzi tub, a custom kitchen with a high end stove (added 2022: https://zlinekitchen.com/zline-60-range) and subzero refrigerator unit, laundry room, a great room with a custom built stone propane fireplace, access to the covered deck and screened in porch, a queen day bed with a pull out twin trundle in a room that can double as an office (custom built desk/bookshelf w/n that room). Access to the patio and tram is also on the main level behind the kitchen through the screened-in porch.
The lower-level features a fun, spacious recreational area with a 65" TV with complete surround sound, a kitchenette (full size refrigerator), two separate bedrooms (one king & one queen), one with a private luxury bathroom with walk-in shower while the other’s luxury bathroom is accessible from within the bedroom and from the rec room. If needed, in the rec area there is a pullout out couch to sleep the 15th or 16th guest (if this is planning to be used, please let us know in advance so we can apply the appropriate bedding).
A bonus room is located above the laundry room and garage which is the ideal teenager/kid space with two separate bunk beds (4 twins), a queen bed, couch, and TV for the late night gaming/movie binging one needs.

Our stay was pretty perfect!! No surprises as far as property and accommodations. Everything is so beautiful-house and surroundings. Would have loved an 11 or 12 checkout tho-hint, hint. Property owners are just a text away & answer quickly. Thankfully Twin Coves Marina did give us rides back and forth for pontoon rental but they really “didn't” want to- and they said they never have done this. We told them property info says they will. Might want to change that as far as what’s written. So, a lovely stay. Would definitely go back!!

We have stayed at several places on Lake Norris. This one did not disappoint. It was very spacious, layout was good. Kitchen had alI the essentials. I was unsure of the tram idea but ended up loving the convenience. The house could have been cleaned better. Also it would be nice to have a couple extra blankets in the living rooms. But overall it was a great place to relax for the weekend.

Great location. Marina across the cove is great to rent from. Everything was a hit with the group. The dock, the tram, the fire pit. Great weekend.

My family and I stayed at this house for five nights. The house is very nice and as described in the description. We really enjoyed the dock and tram is a leg saver!

This beautiful property has the best views of any Norris lake properties we have stayed in so far. The tram to the lake was a concern, but ended up being very enjoyable and relaxing with the best conversations of our vacation. The owner was very responsive and communication was fantastic. Aplus property and the open water area with a marina right across the water where you could hear the live music was awesome.

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. We had 5 families and the space was great. Loved the tram as a great way down the mountain. Our only watch outs are: very uncomfortable beds and pillows - super hard and low quality, no window coverings on any windows - making for very little sleeping in in the morning.

We absolutely love the place! The views of the wild live was my 5 year olds favorite thing! Fire pit and spacious kitchen were also a hit! We will be back!!!!

Our group comes to Norris each year but we have outgrown our usual spot so decided to try this out. Overall the house, dock and location were great. It's really convenient to I-75 and having Twin Cove Marina across the lake made it easy for boat rental, gas and ice. The driveway to the house was less steep than most houses we have stayed in. The kitchen was well stocked and it was nice to have a large fridge upstairs and another one on the lower level.
The overall cleanliness of the house and dock area needed some attention. The floors were dirty and we actually ended up scrubbing the dock ladder ourselves because they were so slippery.
The tram was nice to have to get the kids and gear down but note it is the only way to get up and down. We found it would have been nice to have a secondary way to get up the hill for quick runs as the tram takes about 8 mins round trip and can only hold 800 lbs.
Overall it's a lovely house and location and we really enjoyed our time.

Nice spacious place! The additional living areas, front and side deck, where awesome to have in the evenings! The trolley made it easy to get coolers and items down to dock. Side note that trolley is the ONLY way to access the dock so just be aware. Owners where easy to communicate with. Only complaint I have is the place was not very clean, no fault to owners as hard to manage remotely. Very beautiful place and the lake area was not super busy so safe and comfortable place to float right off the dock area.

Overall amazing, beautiful, and excellent accomodation, only problems noted were slightly insufficient bedding available, also upper floor bedding accomodations really not for adult size kids, but had a blast, jacuzzi and tram, dock were all awesome, deck was beautiful! Thank you for a great stay!

The house was exactly as described and had plenty of space for our group of 12. The bunk room was perfect for kids. The location is great and very close to Twin Cove marina. We rented a boat and the employees were nice enough to come pick us up at the dock. The tram is nice and is the only way to get to the dock. Overall very nice!

1) Cutting Board broken in half when we arrived, charged $150 dollars to replace it at the end of our stay.
2) Hot tub unusable
3) Hundreds of dollars worth of boating supplies / boat parts stolen from dock.
4) Multiple burners on oven Range unusable.
5) incredibly disappointing stay overall.

Great unique spot and was perfect for a family get away. We did have some challenges with the property that were out of anyones control. Ed was on speed dial and promptly helped us with our visit. Highly recommend you check out this unique property.

This beautiful lakeside home was everything we needed for our familys stay for our elk hunt adventure. The location was perfect as we could easily drive to convenience stores and grocery stores as well as the adjacent mountains for the hunt.
The high-end large and small appliances and well-stocked kitchen items made everything convenient for our stay as we cooked and washed clothes so easily. We grilled on the gas grill on the patio, and we sat out by the fire pit in the evenings. We felt at home in this beautiful yet functional house.
We appreciated having WiFi and access to Apps with smart tvs in all three levels. This home was very clean, spacious, and well suited for our 3 generation family who stayed. The tram allowed us access to the awesome dock where we viewed sunsets and and enjoyed seeing birds, boat activity, and the beautiful fall colors and falling leaves. The porches overlooking the lake gave us beautiful views of the lake and several deer sightings in the spacious yard.
We would enjoy being here any time of year.
Next time could be summer.

This is a beautiful home
Alot of thought was put into its build.
We had a total of 8 adults staying here. But let me tell you about our visit.
Several of the beds were not comfortable.
Our daughter and son in law were sleeping in the lower level and had to buy a blow up mattress and sleep on it. The house could have been cleaner, we had to pay a fee to have the house cleaned after our departure. But didn't arrive to a clean house. Just what do they clean with this fee? Floors were dusty and there was food was on kitchen floor, trash bins in kitchen were filthy. The screened in porch had numerous cobwebs. The grill had not been cleaned.
The outside of the house and Dock was in need of a good cleaning. Once It was to late to cancel ( because I'd lose my money) we found out we couldn't use the hot tub or there'd be a fine. Couldn't use the grill section on the stove or you'd be fined. If you put trash in the trash cans without a bag you would be fined.
Also there was no smoking allowed on premises, not just in the house which would have been understandable but on the premises. Only 2 of our 8 smoked
Which are very curious smokers.
For the price I paid I would NEVER stay here again. I guess this is what really drove us to this decision, the tram quit working and we had 2 family members stuck at the bottom of this steep hill. I texted and called the owner Ed and I left a message as well as my phone number, 2 hrs. later he replied. His reply was they could walk up the tram and he was sorry for the delay in his response he was with family celebrating a birthday. Well excuse me I just paid approximately good money for 4 nights to spend with my family and you can't reply in a timely manner. This is a business and sometimes when you have a business you have to make sacrifices.

The property was absolutely amazing. We had 10 adults in the house and had plenty of room to spare. We brought a boat and 4 jet skis, so the large dock was a plus. The dock and lake are where we spent most of our time, but being able to have everyone together in the kitchen to eat was awesome. The dock is a quick 2 minute drive by water from Twin Cove Marina, but to bring the trailers over to the property took about 25 minutes. The only negative was the angle and steepness of the driveway, but we managed. I would definitely recommend this house.

Wonderful House
The house and dock are beautiful! The house has so much space and has everything you could need. The tram to the lake was great! It saved us from having to climb the hill. The dock was in a perfect location on the lake and has so much space. We did not use the boat slips but it would be perfect if we had a boat. We had a great time with family and would love to come back some day!

Overall the house, dock and location were great. The overall cleanliness of the house and dock area needed a little attention. The house was very spacious and had many areas for our family and friends to gather.

Highly Recommend!
We were a large group (8 adults, 8 children 6 yrs and younger) and there was plenty of room for all of us. We were a little worried about the tram with the kids but we had zero issues. The dock provided hours of entertainment and the three areas with large tvs were great for times of rest. The kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, etc. If you’re traveling with a lot of kids, one item to note is there is only one bathtub (master upstairs). We knew this going in as the pictures are very accurate. We also brought some travel shades as none of the windows have drapes (again, noted in pictures so we knew ahead of time). The location of the house is incredibly convenient to grocery and liquor stores. The owners provided a lot of helpful information before arrival too so there were no surprises. We highly recommend this property for a lake vacation!

Loved our time here, great house great location!
Eight of us stayed in mid May and had a great time. Tons of space for 4 couples and one 8year old each with own bedroom and bath. Had a few issues due to being off season which the owners fixed extremely quickly. The tram was a blessing as we had 2 people with knee issues so they were happy.

Very clean and spacious. The owner was very responsive to questions. We really enjoyed the property and the lake is beuatiful.

An ok vacation. Not impressed for the money spent.
The house needed better housekeeping. The jetted tub in the master didn't work. The oven was ridiculously small. No TV in the master. No window coverings in the bedrooms. Zero privacy. No lake veiw from the house. The tram was nice but the access to the dock from the bottom of the tram was dangerous. The pictures online showed a grill on the dock and there was none. We also had a really difficult time getting up the driveway. It was very steep and slick with wet leaves. I just felt like that needed to be in the description. The owners were very nice. I don't think they live in state though. They need to oversee the property better. We did enjoy the peace and quiet but will probably not book a return trip to this property.

Family fun on the lake
Beautiful property in the woods, however, so wooded that we could not see the lake from the deck areas. Twin Cove marina right across from the amazing large double decker dock. Plenty of outdoor seating. The tram makes the lake access so easy.
The house is very roomy for our 8 adults and 2 teens except that the main dining table only had 8 chairs.
High end appliances, although half of the huge unusual stove was out of order. I would think most renters would prefer a typical user-friendly stove. There is a 12 cup coffee maker as well as a Keurig . Large crock pot and assortment of pots and pans. Nice dishes and utensils.
Plenty of toilet paper and soap products available but no extra trash bags. Luckily we brought some as there is a fine for putting unbagged trash in the outdoor cans. Would have been a huge inconvenience if we had to hunt down a store that sold trash bags.
Overall, we would definitely recommend this spacious beautiful rental!

Wonderful lake vacay
The house is beautiful - the dock is huge- loved the chair swings - and the lake is amazing. The location- right across from Twin Cove Marina- was convenient and fun (they had live music several evenings). Pictures are fairly accurate.
Plenty of parking for our group of 10 (4 vehicles).
A couple of things to note:
It looks like there might be a grill at the dock in one of the pictures, but there is not.
We didn’t realize we would not be able to access the garage- probably should have asked. We had good weather every day so we could play cornhole, etc on the driveway but would have been good to have some shade.
Driveway is very steep till you get right to the house.
The tram is the only way to get between house & lake (about 4 mins each way). Not as steep or long as many trams.
There are a few steps at the bottom between tram and dock, and no handrails on the last few steps, but for most people it would be fine to navigate.
Fire pit was huge with lots of chairs.
I thought the cancellation policy was very generous.
When we got the detailed property info via email about a week prior to start of vacation, after the reservation became non-refundable, there were a few surprise rules.
The AGA unit in the kitchen- only the 2 ovens on the left & the gas cooktop were working, and we did a lot of cooking, so that was a bit of a challenge.
There was also one big drawer in the kitchen that was broken (labeled as such).
The cabinets are very tall and there is not much storage you can reach in the kitchen unless you’re really tall!
Having a fridge both upstairs and downstairs was great.
Fairly well stocked kitchen in terms of utensils - it would be nice to have a few more mixing or storage bowls. But we cook a lot, maybe more than most.
Must bring own grilling utensils.
The AC quit working on the last night we were there (Sat) inside temp got to 77 and probably a little hotter than that in the uppermost bedroom. I could not reach anyone via text or VRBO messaging. I don’t know that they could have done anything Sat nite, but …..
We really had an awesome time! We will definitely go back to this lake. Will ask a few more questions about the property rules up front next time now that we are more educated consumers.

Perfect lake retreat for extended family
Afternoon Sun was the perfect retreat for our extended family (8 adults + 5 kids). Ed and Meredith were incredibly attentive during the lead up as well as on-site. We filled our days with sunshine and activities on the lake and were able to hang in what felt like a lush rainforest setting in the evenings. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back.

Perfect Family Vacation! Oh the Memories!
Afternoon Sun was all we had hoped for in a vacation rental for our family (6 adults and 5 children). From the beginning of the process (I had lots of questions before I booked it) right through our stay, the owner, Ed Bayer, was helpful and attentive to all our needs.
The bedrooms were spacious and we liked that each of the adult bedrooms had their own bath. Four of the children slept in the bunk room on the top floor, their own special place. We ate our meals around the large table in the kitchen and were thankful for all the small kitchen appliances, pots, pans, etc. We loved playing games on the deck. We had a movie night and all snuggled up on the large sofa in the lower level in front of the oversized TV.
The tram worked great for our many trips during the week down to the lake and back. The dock was very spacious! The kids enjoyed jumping off and playing all kinds of games in the water. There were hours of fishing daily, too, off another part of the dock. In the evening, we enjoyed watching the sunset from the lifeguard style chair on the top deck. The 4 swinging chairs in the shade on the lower level were a hit, too. One night we used the large fire pit to sing campfire songs and make s’mores.
We rented a kayak one day from a local marina and all had fun paddling around in the cove. Another day we rented a party pontoon boat (double deck with a slide) and had a blast exploring beautiful Norris Lake.
It was a week of family memories we will always remember and “our home” for the week was fabulous!! We hope to return again.

Exceptional much needed getaway!
If I could give this property 10 stars I would! Everything was perfect for this group of 10 life long friends. There is ample space to gather, as well as spaces for quiet times if needed. The setting was so beautiful and peaceful and all of the amenities were top notch. The tram that takes you to the water was a godsend, and we spent many hours congregating with food and cocktails on the two story deck. We rented a pontoon boat from the marina right across the water and docking it was a breeze. I cannot say enough great things about this home. Thank you for allowing us to stay for a much needed break!

Spacious home sitting high on a hill, across the cove from a full-service marina. My family (wife, 4 adult kids with spouses, 4 toddlers, and an infant) all had space to relax or interact, most all day. Outstanding features: 2 large screen TV’s with excellent cable / streaming options, reliable wireless and cell service, first-rate kitchen and fire pit (with lots of dry wood), and prompt service from tech-savvy owner (a friendly plumber fixed a slow-draining shower the morning after it was discovered). To reach a large, private floating dock with expansive upper deck, a 4-5 person tram creeps up and down a track (3-minute ride, 1-way). We all enjoyed the soothing trips.Minor issues:Not enough bath towels for a large group.Only coffee maker is a pod-type (Keurig, bring your own pods).Densely-wooded, 5-acre property would have a spectacular view from the front porch, if it weren’t for all the branches and leaves. All in all, a great place to relax and leave your world behind (though the option remains to bring your stress along, given the great cell and wireless service).

The house and property were beautiful. There is room for improvement in the furnishings. The dining area chairs were very uncomfortable, as were some of the beds. We had to purchase a 12 cup coffee pot, since only a single cup brewer was provided. The lower level showers had slanted floor tiles which were very slippery when wet. The owners were pleasant and very responsive with minor plumbing issues that arose. Overall, We had a really nice time.
