About this cottage rental
Welcome to Sandbar Shores on Big Platte Lake. This micro-resort is comprised of three cottages with direct beachfront access and enjoyment of Big Platte Lake. Big Platte Lake is nestled in the heart of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore area and is exceptionally shallow, warm and sandy. Each cottage is steps away from the lake and offers lovely lake views.
The Beach House Cottage is closest to the waterfront and has two bedrooms. One bedroom is outfitted with two full beds, the master bedroom consists of a queen bed and the living room has a pull out sofa. This cottage sleeps six people. There is a fully functional kitchen and one bathroom.
Each cottage is outfitted with a/c, heat, WiFi, Roku televisions, gas grills, linens, towels, pillows, and personal fire pits. The sandy beach lakefront is a shared area between all of the cottages so we request that visitors are limited and courtesy be given to the other quests while enjoying the amenities. We are not able to provide motorized water vehicles but you are welcome to bring yours along and tie up to one of the mooring bouys.
There are working laundry facilities located in the basement of the Main House. Guests from all three cottages have access to the laundry facilities in the Main House.
Whether you're looking to explore the dunes, waterways, hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, tour the wineries of M-22, or just admire the northern Michigan sunsets and scenery our cottages will not disappoint.

House was not fully clean at time of checkin despite high cleaning fee.
All the rest was ok.

We had a wonderful time. This trip was a last minute booking, which Dan was very accommodating and helpful with. The location and size of this property was perfect for us. We went exploring: Sleeping Bear Dune Climb, Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station, Point Betsie, Platte River Point, Peterson Beach, Empire Beach and lighthouse. All within a very reasonable drive of this cabin. The main house had 2 washer and dryers. There were plenty of board and yard games to choose from. We also enjoyed the kayaks available with this property. Platte lake was beyond beautiful and offered breathtaking sunsets! The kids (4 & 6) enjoyed jumping off the dock and swimming/walking around in the lake. The water was maybe waist deep on them and crystal clear.
The house had everything we needed.
We hope to do it again sometime! Thanks, Dan!

We stayed at the beach house. Cute updated cabin. It is the closest one to the lake so no interrupted views. There are 3 homes on this property so if you are looking for a private location this may not be it. We were only ones there (other than owner stayed a couple nights) so it was good for us but if the other places were booked it may have been awkward to use the lakefront. Lake is nice but no one on it during a holiday weekend so not sure the reason. Great location to the Platte River and M-22 so lots to do and see.

Perfect little place for a family getaway. Cottage was clean and updated. We loved the lake access and all the amenities. Easy access to Sleeping Bear Dunes and neighboring attractions. It was just what our family needed.

We so appreciated the overall outdoor amenities provided here - laundry availability, kayaks, firepits, outdoor seating and table and a very nice grill. We had a beautiful view of the lake, gorgeous sunsets, many birds to enjoy. The hosts (who happened to be there) and the other guests were kind and very friendly to us, while respecting privacy and quietness.
The inside needs work at this point - we had a great discussion with Dan about updates and upgrades that he intends for the beach front cottage, which sound wonderful, and he was always immediately responsive to any concerns that we had. Yet we can only rate our own experience there. Plumbing was a challenge, the AC couldn't keep up and was too high to reach to adjust, the smoke alarm went off multiple times for just minor use of the oven or heater. The center bedroom was too crowded with furniture that didn't work easily, tho the bed was very comfortable.
We love Big Platte Lake from prior years of visiting, and enjoyed being back! This resort is more spacious than many, as there are only 3 cottages. It is a very recreational section of the lake, with many pontoon boats and cottage homes around it. It was great fun to kayak down to the mouth of the Platte River, and to hear the trumpeter swans 'trumpeting' from there! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting with our coffees overlooking the lake, feeling the soft lake breezes!!
We send best wishes to Dan and his lovely family!

We stayed for a week, the queen bed was comfortable but the kids single bed mattresses were really uncomfortable. I’m totally okay with paying a cleaning fee but the check out procedures were full of “You must”statements of stripping the beds, emptying the trash, making sure all dishes are washed (of course) and put away and the appliances unplugged and fridge emptied….There wasn’t even the basic condiments left for others to use. The shower is really small and the knobs don’t turn the way they should so you’re constantly scalding or freezing yourself when trying to end your shower. So checkout kinda rubbed me the wrong way as I’m paying a cleaning fee already.
The view is beautiful though and there is plenty of firewood, you’ll need your own matches or spark lighter as those are not available. The main a:c unit keeps the main rooms cool but the bedrooms are still a bit warm. There is a broom provided and in the basement of the big house there was a vacuum that I used to clean up the normal mess of grass and bug debris coming in the house.
We had a great time despite the mediocre accommodations.

Stayed at the Beach House and it was what we expected after reading the description and the reviews. Not the fanciest of places, but suited our needs very well. Others that were staying at the property were nice and the owner was responsive and friendly. We had a great week despite the weather!

With this cabin, you don't have to choose LAKE vs. RIVER for your kayaking, canoeing, or fishing fun - you can do both! Starting out from the waterfront of this cabin, you can explore all of Platte Lake, and take side trips along the Platte River. The upstream portion of the Platte River also connects to Little Plate Lake; the downstream portion empties into Lake Michigan. Each day we kayaked a different route and enjoyed a variety of wildlife including deer, raccoon, beaver, turtles, loons, kingfishers, and hawks. For fish, we saw catfish, carp, and gar, and we caught bluegill, perch, and rock bass. The lake water is super clear so you get a great view of the changing underwater terrain, from perfectly sandy bottom in the shallows, to the various weed beds in 3 - 20 feet. We also did a couple of bike trips to Lake Michigan, starting from the cabin, going to M22 and beyond. The cabin was a great home base for all our activities and it was nice to have the grill and campfire in the evening. The waterfront is peaceful, grassy, and shady... and there is a stretch of sand in front of the cement breakwater that forms a mini "beach" that makes it easy to get kayaks in and out. Another plus was being able to keep our kayak trailer on the property.

We have stayed at this property for a long weekend and really enjoyed it. The house is right on the lake with beautiful views, large sliding doors in the front are so nice to be able to enjoy the views from the inside as well.
The lake water is very clear and we could use a couple of kayaks to go on the water. The lake is very shallow for quite some distance and perfect for kids, ours spent quite some time wading in water looking at fish and tadpoles.
The house has everything you need and very conveniently located by Sleeping Bear dunes, multiple trails, we did Empire bluff trail (awesome views) and the Dine trail; Glen Arbor and Traverse city and many more little towns and villages. The store at the end of the road, Trading post, is really cool if you need to grab something quick, and got good pizza, too.
The check in/check out process is very easy and quick and the host, Dan, is super responsive.
We also really enjoyed the fire pit right by the house and of course got good use of the grill. The big house on the property has some kids toys in the basement (for use of all cottages) which the kids liked and played with
We had a very nice relaxing weekend, thank you!

Wonderfully relaxing!
The location could not be more perfect for witnessing fall foliage. Our 3 year old loved exploring the property and hunting for acorns. Management was responsive and attentive if we had an issue. Overall a great experience!

Did not realize that the cottage was a little walk down hill from parking. We are both older with canes. Difficult to get our things to the cottage . Basics but enjoyed!

we booked the beach cabin for a 5 night family getaway. we had the absolute best time. the lake is crystal clear with a sand bottom. its very shallow which was awesome for the little ones. my 5 year old could walk out about 75 yards from shore and it wasn't over his head. the sand beach was also great for the kids and was one of the only properties with a sand beach directly into the water. the cabin was exactly as described. nothing fancy but it was perfect for our family. both TVs (family room and adult bedroom) had Roku so we could stream anything we wanted. internet was fast and i was able to jump onto a few zoom meetings while we were there. there are 3 cabins on the property but each one has their own grill and fire pit so you can have as much or little contact with other guests as you like. the owner Dan was super fast getting back to me. I messaged him and texted him multiple times and he always responded within 5-10 minutes. he had lots of suggestions of things to do with little kids. the dunes are 20 minutes away and there are a bunch of smaller cute towns withing a few minute drive. there is also a drive-in theater 5 minutes away if you want to catch that socially distanced flick with the fam.The check in/put process was super easy. we were able to get into the house a few hours early. Dan texted first thing in the morning to give us updates as he knew we had a few hour drive and it let us plan our leave time. i would 100% recommend this property. we are already looking to book all 3 cabins next summer with the entire family.

The cabin is small but clean. Right on the water with a small beach and shallow water. Nice fire pit and plenty of dry wood. There are lots of places to visit close by- Sleeping Bear Dunes, Frankfort, Glen Haven, Glen Arbor, FishTown and Chrystal Mountain. They only thing I would say is we were glad we took our own lawn chairs. They have limited outdoor seating and the bench by are fire pit was not comfortable. There were some lawn chairs in the basement but they were very old. Other than that one small thing it was a great location and we had a really good time.

Great getaway
We initially booked one of the cabins, but the owner called me the day after booking informing me that the cabin was double booked. So he offered us the bigger house on the property for no extra charge. This was great. The lake was perfect for kids of any ages. My 6yr son and I went out about 75 yards from shore and it was only about 3 or 4 foot deep. Very clear and warm too. The property has a small sand area for kids, sand toys and yard games in the basement. The laundry is shared between the two cabins and the house, in the basement of the big house. Seperate entrance into the basement of the house for this. Fire pit for each cabin, plenty of firewood on site. This place was great and great location. We hope to come back soon.
