From the beginning Mitzi communicated with me about the property and answered all my questions. Because of this communication we were very prepared and everything went off perfectly. The property is exactly as presented, easy access, the lake is beautiful. The location is in the middle of everything one cane desire when traveling to the area!! We’ll be back!!

Beautiful Sunsets, Clean Water, & lots to do nearby
If you love beautiful views, nature and a variety of fun things to do, this rental in this location is great! Lots of space to comfortably accommodate a group or visitors coming and going.

Great location, many outdoor activities available. Cottage was clean and well appointed. Deck needs attention- chairs are worn out/very weathered and uncomfortable. Suggest cleaning crew blow off deck debris each week when they clean. Bushes/plants around cottage are getting overgrown.

We had an enjoyable week staying on Big Platte Lake. The owner sent a quick text after we arrived to make sure we got settled ok. The cottage is located in a vacation area with lots of things to do. It was clean and more spacious then we had expected. The kitchen was well equipped with dishes, pots, utensils, etc. It would of been nice to have a newer large griddle and/or a fry pan. Especially if you like to make big breakfasts or if there is a fisherman in your party. The current fry pans are warped. The southwest bedroom with the queen bed had a slight mildew odor which I did not notice but my husband did. The washer and dryer came in handy for cloths and wet towels. From the large deck we had a nice view of Big Platte Lake. The lake access and dock are shared with other cottages on the property but it was not a problem.
The lake bottom is sandy and it is fairly shallow for quite a ways out. Thanks MItzi for sharing your cottage and beautiful lake!

The owner was very responsive, especially initially. She answered all the questions, helped with local activities and super nice over the phone. The Platte Lake area is wonderful and within 10-45 minutes distance to many beautiful cities and sights. So many things to do. We did hiking and kayaking, went to beaches, the dunes, many towns, rented jet skis, went to Torch Lake, did some boating, etc.
The cottage is decent size and has a very convenient layout. It is spacey for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Two things that bothered us: One, it is a shared lot/shore area so all the six cottages on the same lot are very close to each other. It is quiet, however, so no one bothers anyone but it was a bit too close when you are eating outside, for instance. Second, the cottage was not cleaned properly for us. We were there during July 2020, right in midst of Covid... so, it was not even clean for a regular time, let alone Covid standards. For example, One bathroom had dirty footprints on the shower floor. The shower has scum all over the glass door and has not been cleaned for quite some time. The other bathroom has a shelf unit on the floor and all the dust and dirt underneath the shelf was still there. No one cleaned under it. The kitchen table had a plastic clear table cloth over the fabric cloth. The plastic cover was dirty. I wiped and the wipe was dirty... The place had a strong scent that was added to disguise the mildewy smell.
We brought our own bedding but the bedding that was placed as a "decoration" smelled bad, like stale body odor. It would have been a good idea to wash them to freshen up the place a bit. We wanted to use the oven mitts and they were so dirty and smelled bad that we ended up having to wash them.. Underneath the family room couch, there were still old food pieces remaining from previous guests... We were very disappointed and ended spending a few hours on the first night cleaning the place. I let the owner know that if she wanted we could talk about it after our trip was over (I didn't want our kids hearing during our trip), I could give her some feedback about the place, and how it could be a better experience for others. She contacted me on our first morning there but did not take me up on my offer to listen to me after the trip. I am sure she has all the good intentions and trusted the cleaning person to do her job. I hope the place will be in better shape for future guests/customers.

Very well maintained cottage situated nicely to many local attractions/activities. The lake setting was spectacular with its gentle breezes, the easy access to the waterfront, shallow dock area for swimming and accessing the boat area and sitting lakeside. The cottage is spacious with comfortable beds, access to laundry and nice kitchen area. We appreciated the fans in every room in case we needed them. Mitzi communicates consistently and aims to please her guests. Thank you Mitzi for all the area tips and helping us make it a vacation to remember!

I would give this little cottage 5 stars but for the water- the water is rusty: it tastes like rust, smells like rust, and turned our white garments slightly orange in the washer. We had to buy all cooking, drinking water and even used bottled water to brush teeth because the taste was so obnoxious. I contacted the owner who had no comment on the rust issue. She assured me there was no lead in the water- that it had been tested for lead.

Cottage on Big Platte Lake
Beautiful location, cottage was nice. The queen bed was rather hard to sleep on for a whole week, but other beds were okay. Kitchen seemed well equipped and has a washer and dryer which was great!

Very clean and perfect location! Host is very responsive to any questions! Want to return soon!
this cabin was perfect for our family! Conveniently located next to the Platte Lake - beautiful area. Close enough to go to Traverse City and close to any kind of kayaking or hiking that a person would like to do. It was a great getaway and I certainly wanted to stay longer. Marjorie is a wonderful Host and very responsive to any needs or questions. Thank you so much for the great getaway and look forward to enjoying it again.

Really liked the location and setting. Plenty of room.
Deck and tale outside could have been cleaned off before we arrived. The green chairs on the deck were not usable due to the chalky dust that came off on clothes when sitting on them.

The house was lovely and close to the lake for the family to enjoy. Love to stay there again next year.

Great spot!
Cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Complex was surprisingly quiet given the number of guests. Nice view of lake with dock access/use. A great spot with quick access to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore.

Nice clean cottage. Nice view and nice swimming area.
Would be helpful to have a broom and vacuum at the cottage. Twin bed in front bedroom needs new mattress. Every time you turned over it squeaked so bad it woke the other person up.

Beautiful Lake
Thank you! We enjoyed our stay at your cottage very much. All necessities were provided and Marjorie was very nice to speak with and accommodating. Beautiful lake!

Great location, perfect space for a family or group..
We loved the living area of this home. Kids played board games that were provided while the adults relaxed at the end of the day. The location on Platte Lake is beautiful and convenient to the many places to see in this gorgeous area of Michigan. Lake Michigan beaches are just 10 minutes away. Taking canoes, kayaks and tubes on Platte River was a highlight.

Great place to make family memories
Our family of five stayed in the cabin for my birthday week, and it was really lovely. Cabin was clean, bright and had everything we needed. It is much more spacious then it appears in the photos, which was a nice surprise. Since we have three teens, we really need two bathrooms, and a little extra space, and this worked out perfectly.
While there are a couple of small cabins between this one and the lake, there are really pretty, direct views, so you still have the feeling of being "on the water." We could actually watch our kids play at the small beach area from the deck. The lake was a little chilly (which is to be expected in June) but still warm enough to go swimming. We've been vacationing on Big Platte for about 6 years, and this cabin is one of the best values we've had. Big Platte is great for families and kayakers, as the lake stays fairly shallow at the entry points (so you dont have to worry about a quick drop off if you have kids), and there are several beautiful channels to kayak. It really is a special place.
We did run into an issue with the plumbing while we were there (the cable company had punctured the septic drains.) However, once we reported the problem to the owner, she and the maintenance crew got on it immediately, even though it was Sunday, Father's day. They kept us informed by phone the entire time, and by the time we got back from a hike, everything was back in working order. The reason I mention this (even though it was fixed very quickly) is that sometimes things happen, and you want to know that if you have an issue on vacation, it will be taken seriously and addressed quickly. I was really grateful for the fast response to this, and a few minor requests we had. The owner seems to really wants her guests to have a great time. We would definitely stay here again.
