Very clean room and facilities

The room was warm and the location was right next to the castle.
I rang the hotel owner on Wednesday, 3 days before check in and asked him was there somewhere we could get ready for the wedding. he said that it would be no problem that we could have our room by 12. When we arrived at 12 and rang him the gates were locked and he was rude to us on the phone telling us he would 'have to fill in paperwork' and that check on is strictly 3pm. We were going to a wedding and ended up having to get ready in the car and a local restaurant bathroom. Also he mentioned to us at breakfast that he would have to 'grab a few notes' off us. It wasn't the time and place especially after the check-in disaster. He then followed us out when we were bringing our bags to the car. To be honest after the situation he left us in- the bottle of wine should have been complimentary and he shouldn't have been asking us for more money. I honestly never had an experience like it and we paid a lot for this awful experience. The only thing left for breakfast were eggs and eventhough he was there he never offered to make us more sausages, rashers like the other guests had.

Handy spot to relax in for a wedding in the Castle
No phone signal in any of the rooms and WiFi signal very poor, no sure if it even worked.
(but staff did thankfully make me aware of same)

This is one of the best stays we have had with booking.com or Air BNB, the facility and surroundings are exceptional. A high quality facility with exceptional quality rooms. Service was outstanding and the family room is a proper horse barn so if you like horses like my family do them your in for a real treat.
Host was a Super Guy and went out of his way to ensure we had a great stay.
Highly recommended.
WiFi is a little weak in most areas apart from one location outside

More traditional breakfast option would have been nice

Decent sized Room.
What Can I Say. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. It should’ve been a pleasant stay.
However, upon arrival very very shortly after 6pm, we were notified by a sign on the door that there would be no staff available to check us in until 10pm. Not ideal when your wife is 6 months pregnant.
15 Guests arrived at the stay. All of which had very little information on the policy regarding check in. One guest rang the owner who said “it was in the email”. However, after further review, not a single guest who booked through booking.com received an email from the Markree Courtyard. The owner also mentioned “he had a life” when there was a request to help the guests. There were two families with young children waiting.
I was extremely disappointed as the price for a room wasn’t cheap. And with that price range, you expect a certain level of customer service which at the Markree Courtyard just wasn’t there. I would encourage Booking.com to make it very clear on this ridiculous 3 hour window of a check in policy.
When the Night Porter arrived, he was friendly for the most part but offered no sympathy or basic customer service to many families clearly distressed and annoyed by the entire experience. I’ve travelled all over Ireland, stayed in B&Bs , Hotels , Hostels, and all other forms of accommodation around the world. And this may be the worst experience of a check in procedure I’ve ever had to deal with. To leave 15+ People Stranded for 4 Hours doesn’t quite cut it.
The rooms were actually quite nice but the entire experience was already ruined.

The courtyard setting is lovely and a sun trap to sit out and enjoy a coffee on a nice day :)
The room was lovely & clean with good TV reception
The breakfast was continental with fruit cereal cold meats cheese etc but toaster didn't appear to work
There was no Internet- no prior knowledge of this given - apparently due to thick walls of the building - the adjacent Castle, also with thick walls, has internet
6.0
The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. Very nice bathroom and ahower
The internet and WiFi connections were very poor, with WiFi close to nonexistent. I understand that the problem is the location of the hotel, it's current lack of broadband access, and the thick walls of the room. Unfortunately given the somewhat remote location of the hotel and limited cellphone access (at least for us), it detracted from the stay.
Also, it would be nice to check in anytime after 3 pm, not just between 3-6pm.

A beautiful setting in Markree Castle grounds, we stayed for a family wedding that was held in the castle. An ideal location.
A continental breakfast was provided and however we did expect a cooked breakfast which was slightly disappointing. But what was provided was good!

Absolutely beautiful and incredibly peaceful.

beautiful building in lovely location. room was very nice.
the breakfast was so poor, all the food was from Aldi and only white sliced bread as option or croissants (not fresh) most of the food was gone by the time we got there at 9.30am event though breakfast was until 10am, they had no natural yoghurt, two bits of ham left and a few scraps of cheese. the coffee was good but that was about it. for the price this breakfast is pathetic. Weird vases of fake flowers in carriage breakfast building, also when I rang to confirm my Booking, I presume it was the owner who answered, an older Irish man, was unbelievably rude to me. we paid nearly €300 to stay one night and that’s how you are treated with an awful Aldi breakfast. however all the other staff, the manager, cleaning staff, and check in staff as well
as the poor guy running breakfast by himself were really friendly and professional. it would not cost the venue very much to improve the breakfast. a few local fresh food producers, sligo is coming down with great local produce, marketer courtyard should be celebrating that , why have lovely voya in the bathroom and Aldi in the breakfast room???? disappointing .

Beautiful grounds, unique rooms, quiet and peaceful location. Very friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff. Jackie was so nice to take us for a tour of the property when we arrived and Andy took such good care of us at breakfast and gave us a lot of information about the property.

The room was spacious, updated compared to most others in the area and included a mini fridge. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the included breakfast was great. Above all else, the service we received at check-in and check-out was fantastic.
