About this cottage rental
Ellan Vannin is one of a collection of refurbished listed buildings in an historic area of Castletown in the south of the Isle of Man. Adjoining the Bailey Scott designed former Police station and right next to Castle Rushen, a medieval castle once the home to the Kings and Lords of Mann the area is steeped in history. Overlooking the harbour and waterfront, cross over the footbridge in front of the property and you'll find the Nautical museum. Uncover the story of the inventive George Quayle and his most significant surviving creation Peggy, the earliest known example of a British armed yacht.
Ellan Vannin has been lovingly refurbished to a very high standard, with 3 bedrooms and a comfortable open plan lounge and dining area providing a great space for socialising and entertaining. A rooftop terrace (with outdoor heater) overlooking the harbour and castle provides a welcome spot to enjoy a drink or two whilst watching the world go by. Next door is Packet House, which sleeps 4 so could be booked together for a larger group.
Castletown is a great base for a holiday, just 5 minutes from the airport and with a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes close by. The historic Steam Railway runs through the town connecting it with the islands capital, Douglas and the seaside villages of Port Erin and Port St Mary.

First class property right in the middle of Castletown, near shops, restaurants and pubs. Wonderful view of harbour and the sea. Packet house next door is great as well but only two bedrooms.

This property is absolutely wonderful. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed. The beds are very comfortable, with top quality bedding. The showers have a decent water pressure, and the toiletries provided are of a high standard. The kitchen has everything needed for self- catering, and the views from the living room are lovely. Island Escapes were extremely professional and helpful, both before our arrival and in helping in person with small concerns

Second time we have stayed at Ellan Vannin. Location is perfect, overlooking harbour, mini supermarket very close by as are several good restaurants. Accommodation is spotlessly clean and well equipped. Beds are very comfy. Good customer service from Island Escapes, emails responded to quickly. Parking outside was not possible as very limited spaces which were already taken each day but parked on car park and did not need to use the reserved spaces as was easy to park near the sea wall where there are no restrictions on time. Can walk to the steam train and get the train to Douglas. Highly recommended.

Long weekend break, house was fantastic, clean, modern and finished to a very good standard. Local to the centre of Castletown and amenities. Highly recommend staying here.

This property was stunning! My husband and I and his 2 sisters were on the Isle of Man to see our daughter perform with her school orchestra. The home was perfect for us. Having 2 separate bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and a primary suite with bath on the 3rd floor gave us all the privacy we needed. The house is immaculately clean, and beautifully appointed, tastefully decorated. The host was very responsive and easy to communicate with when we had trouble with the door code on arrival. Within minutes the problem was solved. The host left us fresh bread, butter and local jam, as well as tea, coffee and espresso. This is a 5 start property!

Great support with booking ang arranging visit. The house was perfect - very high spec, bright, light and comfortable. A five minute walk from family we were visiting. It was a great base from which to visit our childhood home. The Island Escape team were very responsive and helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ellan Vannin, great location and a lovely house.
Booking it with Island Escapes was very easy and they were friendly and helpful throughout.
They were close by in Castletown and we had to call in on the first day as we couldn’t find a hairdryer, and as it had EVERYTHING else we thought it odd. Unfortunately someone from previous visits had taken all of them ! This was very quickly rectified by the helpful staff who went out and bought a new one, and put it in the house for us.
I think a previous review mentioned that a coat stand would be a great addition in the hall, we agree that it would.
We loved the house and would have no hesitation in booking it again. And if we chose a different location we would certainly book with Island Escapes.

Had a comfortable stay at Ella’s Vannin, lovely location. Very clean and comfortable accommodation. Only downside was unfortunately the wifi was not available.

Myself and some family members stayed here for 5 nights for my daughters wedding. The house is stunning. Spotlessly clean and lovely comfy beds. Lots of room for everyone.
The location right on the harbour front is perfect. Castletown is a lovely small town with easy access to other parts of the island. The steam train even stops there. My daughter got married in the castle just 2 minutes away, so absolutely perfect for my family.

Excellent property, and office just around the corner for instant help with things.
If I were the owner I would sort out the TV (ie get a new and better one - see Consumer association best buys!) as viewing normal TV is fiddly and clunky and not up to the standard of the rest of the property.

We had a brilliant stay at Ellan Vannin. Property was immaculately clean and beds extremely comfortable. I was very impressed with Island Escapes and how easy it was to book the holiday. They also helped with booking the ferry which was much appreciated. Property is ideally located opposite the castle and a great pub and with view of the harbour and sea.
There a few things which would perhaps have made the stay even better. An inside lock on front door would have been appreciated. Coat stand or hooks in hallway so we had somewhere to hang our wet coats. Pint glasses in the kitchen as we are beer drinkers. It was also quite difficult to locate the carpark so maybe a map would have been helpful.
All in all a brilliant stay and I'm sure we will come back to the Isle of Man.

Another excellent property from Island Escapes. Beautifully renovated and fitted out and with a roof terrace to enjoy in good days, and a wood burner for the other days, this is a delightful spot to watch the tides, boats and birds on the harbour. The property is in the heart of Castletown which has everything you might need within walking distance. Highly recommended.

Thanks for a great stay. We would really like to come back to the same property in the future because the layout, decor and position is great.
Unfortunately, the internet broke early on. We also there was no television unless you had both internet and signed in with your own accounts. This was not an issue early on but was when the rest of our family left.
For a property of this level the supply of drinking glasses (not wine) was a little short.
However, the situation and preparation and support from Island Hideaways was excellent. High chair quickly supplied when requested late by us. Really clean and lovely “White company stuff” in bathrooms and beds very comfy. On warm days/evenings the terrace is awesome.

Stay was great but there were no electrical outlets in any bath making it a little difficult for ladies to get ready in the mornings. Also could have used a couple coat hooks in entry to hand coats when we entered. Great location and very nice villa

Stayed in Ellen Vannin for a winter weekend trip with family of five. The accommodation is very tastefully decorated and very well equipped. It is located right by the harbour with fantastic views and within easy walking distance of facilities in Castletown. Parking was straightforward and the accommodation is an easy short drive from the airport.

This was our first vist to the IOM and wont be our last. We arrived on friday for a short 3 day break in mid october, arriving late to the property on thuraday night we where glad to find the entry was guarded by a key pad and not a traditional key, this made everything hassle free and we didnt need to contact anyone to arrange key transfer.
We entered the property to find a modern furnished appartment with all modern applicances. (Dishwasher, washing machine, smart TV)
The next few days where spend visiting the isle and doing lota it had to offer. A lost of the attractions where either cloaing or closed due to it being the end of the season.
The isle is wonderfull and the temprature was still mild in mid october.
All in all a wonderfull time was had. This was mad all the better by this wonderfull property

Short staycation with family. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. The accommodation was well appointed and very comfortable.. Only a couple of points to mention:
1. Could do with a mirror over chest of drawers in twin room.
2. Could do with litter bins in bedrooms.
3. ? Hair driers each bedroom
Small points, which did not deter from a great short break in exvellent accomodation. Would definately book again.

Perfect in every way
Fantastic property in excellent location. Spotlessly clean (not easy with a property this size!). Very well furnished with everything we needed. Contacted by Island Escapes a few days before arriving which was a bonus as I was worried about the keypad entry system (enter code, wait for bleep, green light, pull door slightly, push hard). Lady who phoned was so lovely and helpful. We parked outside on street no problem at all. Lovely to sit on rooftop on night and just relax and enjoy the view. Accommodation was perfect for us as we travelled with my mum and she was able to have privacy with bedroom and bathroom on ground floor and we had top floor.

Great space, extremely comfortable, quiet harbour location. At the price paid great value for money.

Spacious, light & comfortable house in fantastic location
The house is beautifully appointed with high quality furnishings and equipment. The beds & bedding were comfortable, although I would have welcomed a soft mattress cover on the upstairs bed. The location is superb, wonderful views from the upstairs sun room and terrace. Island Escapes rang us at 2 pm just as our ferry was docking to say it was ready for us, which was a bonus and we were very grateful for the welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, bread and butter. Access was a little difficult until we got the knack - put in the code, pull the door a little then push firmly! The Co-op around the corner and Shoprite a little further along had all the provisions we required. Visits to the Castle, House of Keys and Maritime Museum are moments away, although the latter two are currently only open on Saturdays - enquire at the castle. Buses around the island run frequently from Castletown Square and there are steam trains running to Port Erin or Douglas from the pretty station where you can pick up a timetable.
The only criticism - at 7am 4 members of the party due to arrive after we had gone decided to use their code to enter the property. They apologised and quickly left. It transpired that they had gained access with a different code to us and both codes worked - this should not have been possible! Fortunately we were up and dressed at 7am.

What a way to spend a Winter break
The Isle of Man might not have been most people's choice for a winter break but with my family hailing from there I knew it was how I wanted to spend some time. The house was warm, perfectly located and ridiculously well specced, everything was just in perfect order and there were comfy dressing gowns hanging in the closet which I made liberal use of. The little terrace on the top floor was a beautiful touch, we did a little stargazing from there and toasted the Castle which was a stone's throw away. Whenever we needed a little more food for dinner or cola for the rum, the coop was so close a coat wasn't even required to pop out and fetch whatever was missing.
Perfectly presented, located and a pleasure to spend time there. My friends, family and I will definitely be going again!

Christmas 2021
We stayed at Ellan Vannin over Christmas. The house was very well presented and the Christmas tree was a nice touch!
Parking in the day was busy due to being so close to Costa. Great location for the square in Castletown . Not to keen on the ground floor bathroom not having great privacy from the pavement/road but overall a lovely stay.

Fabulous
What a gorgeous place. A very high end finish. Obviously the highlight being the balcony but every room is thoughtfully furnished to a high spec and spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable after busy days sightseeing and a few provisions left in the kitchen for our arrival were very welcome. Wish we’d had longer to appreciate all the facilities. Easy booking and entry to the property. The car sat nav took us the wrong way with the post code for 15mins though google maps on my phone sorted us out. A great stay

Long weekend staycation
We shared the property with friends and really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and the conservatory once the sun went in. Plenty of space for all of us and close to all amenities. Couple of minor issues which were dealt with very quickly. We have stayed at many properties through Island Escapes and would thoroughly recommend them.

Modern, attractive, well located property
Attractive property well furnished. Loved the prints on the walls. Enjoyed the conservatory and the outside terrace with fabulous views of the castle and harbour. Very convenient, central location.
Only criticism was the lack of kitchen equipment. Couldn't find a tea pot, no sieve or salad bowl and no serving dishes.

Staycation - long weekend
The property is fantastic, high end finishes and all home comforts. Conservatory and outside decking made the stay as weather was fabulous and we were able to eat breakfast and have drinks outside whilst people watching. We could have stayed longer and will definitely return.

Ellan Vannin Staycation
House is beautiful, position is perfect , overlooking the river, a few steps to Costa or the nearest pub ! Shops and restaurants are just a couple of minutes away. The roof terrace is perfect for relaxing and people watching. The house is very comfortable, and has everything you need, and is immaculately clean. Would be lovely in the winter as the lounge has a log burner. Would definitely stay here again .

Very comfortable; a home away from home, we could easily have stayed longer.
