Welcome to The Wayside and Whisky Barn. Wayside Farm was built in approximately 1637 on the west coast of the Lake District, Cumbria.
The Wayside and Whisky Barn is situated at the base of Black Combe, surrounded by stunning scenery and the Cumbrian coast.
It is the perfect location for a relaxing weekend away or for the more adventurous we provide an excellent base for walking, biking, sea kayaking, wind surfing, kite surfing, we have fantastic horse riding, or if you are touring around the south west coast on motorbikes.
We are an ideal place to stay overnight, with secure parking, and after an exciting day out, why not relax with a cold glass of beer, or a pint of cold draught Peroni, good food or a warming single malt whisky, if you try one and really like it you could purchase a bottle from our whisky barn to take home with you.
In summer we have an outdoor area with picnic benches where you can enjoy the views of Black Combe and totally relax.
The accommodation has been carefully and tastefully renovated from a disused derelict barn and has kept many of its original features. All four bedrooms are decorated individually, have good quality furnishings and are all ensuite. If you enjoy the outdoor life and walking then Black Combe is located directly behind the hotel with easy access.
At The Wayside we believe a healthy body, is healthy mind. The gym @Millstones in Bootle holds state-of-the art equipment and short drive from The Wayside. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and our guests can have an access by paying a small deposit. A personal trainer can be arranged if booked in advance.
Free Wifi with ultra-fast Internet access is available across all rooms.
The hotel has secure storage, ideal for bikes, canoes and other equipment.
One well-behaved dog (two if they are of a small breed) is welcome in Windermere (the Annex). They are also welcome in the bar and restaurant.

Lovely room with comfy bed, super shower and view from velux window (room 3). Good breakfast and plently of lovely hot coffee. Nice meals in the evening, plus the bar is quite something. The location is great and car parking is without issue.
Most of all the efforts and hard work that Emiko puts in to ensure people have an enjoyable (and safe stay in my case : p), at the Wayside. Doreen is really lovely too, so friendly and chatty.

Absolutely loved our stay at the Wayside, great location for the area we wanted to explore. The owners made us feel so welcome and were really helpful with information on the local area and suggested walks. The room was huge and so comfortable. Trying the gin selection (not just whisky on offer) was also great! Would highly recommend staying at he Wayside and we hope to be back again when in the area.

An amazing 3 night stay and our second visit to The Wayside. Great accommodation with amazing owners/staff and in such a brilliant location. We stayed in Ennerdale which is such a well designed room and beautiful decor. All meals were of a really good standard and the organisation from check in to check out was excellent. Communication on the build up to our stay was very good and made us look forward to our stay even more. Such a fabulous location with both beach and fells on the doorstep.

A perfect base to revisit some favourite places in Cumbria and discover some new ones with our 4 month old daughter.

A short break to enjoy the Lake District - especially it's quieter corners - with a secure and comfortable base.

Had a short, 5-night stay at the Wayside.

It was my birthday on the Friday we arrived. We were welcomed with a warm and friendly smile and showed to our beautifully furnished and ample sized room. It was spotlessly clean and had beautiful oak furniture. The food that Emiko cooked was out-of-this world fantastic. She is a lovely lady with plentiful chat and a friendly persona. Our stay was relaxing as it was planned, great hosts, great food, more than comfy room and great company. We were treat more like friends than customers...Magical.

Nearly had to cancel the booking due to a family member in ill health - very glad we decided to make the long drive back from Liverpool, it was worth it and provided a lovely calm escape, just what we needed at the time. Definitely recommend it.

Wd stayed 2 nights at the beginning of July. We'd stayed at the Wayside before so we were confident that we would be well looked after and we were not disappointed. Our room was comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee, very clean bathroom en suite with shower, strong wifi, and - a big plus - a Velux skylight which had a well fitted blind to keep the early sunlight out. Breakfast was well cooked with great choices. No complaints at all.

We absolutely love staying here, it’s been our 4th time in a year and wouldn’t go anywhere else. The owner is lovely and can not do enough for you to make your stay the best experience ever. The food is delicious to all homemade by the owner. It’s our little bit of heaven!

We have previously stayed at Wayside when it had previous owners. We enjoyed our stay very much and were made to feel welcome. A map for a walk we asked about was printed and given to us which was helpful. We love the location on the Western Lakes near the coast and that is why we chose to return. Rooms are lovely and comfortable and warm and bathrooms are beautiful. We will return again in 2020.
