About this house rental
Granite Shores is a spacious waterfront home set on over 10 secluded acres, and surrounded by many more acres of conservation land. It is a unique and beautiful property, with stunning views to North Haven, the Camden Hills, and the Eagle Island lighthouse. There are over 1,200 feet of shoreline along East Penobscot Bay, with Pink granite ledges, a private beach and a pier. A covered gazebo sits on the ledge over the ocean, and is the ideal spot to sit peacefully with morning coffee, and to watch the sunset in the evenings.
Granite Shores has been a long-time family home, and is now available for rental. This is a magnificent property, offering the best of Maine! Your hosts live nearby and have many years of experience in hospitality and property management. They will do everything they can to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Please read through the reviews from previous guests. Please note: Granite shores is available for one week (or multi-week) rentals with check-in and check-out only on Saturdays during the summer months.
There are 6 bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms. It is a wonderful spot for extended family gatherings. The main house has 5 bedrooms. There are 3 bedrooms on the first floor (one king, two queens), with 2 full bathrooms (2 showers) and a 1/2 bath. There are 2 bedrooms on the second floor (one king, one queen). There is a very large master bedroom with ocean views and a king size bed. There is also a large second bedroom with queen size bed and a sink in the room. There is a full bath with separate shower and full-size tub.
On the first floor you will find a large kitchen with Viking stove, a separate wet bar and kitchen table for casual dining. There is a large, elegant wood-paneled living room, and a formal dining room that seats 10. There is also a well-stocked library and an assortment of games. There is internet, but no cable TV or satellite. There is a separate laundry room with full size washer, dryer and laundry sink. There is a ping pong table in the garage.
The studio apartment over the garage is connected to the house by a covered walkway, and contains 4 twin beds, 1 full bathroom and a small kitchen with a sink and electric stove. There is an extra refrigerator in the garage, right downstairs.

Granite Shores is only a short drive to Stonington, the lobster capital of Maine. You will find everything you need at the property to prepare lobster feasts. There is also a gas BBQ grill.
Granite Shores is close to many wonderful activities available on Deer Isle, including Aragosta at Goose Cove, recently named “Best Waterfront Restaurant in Maine” by DownEast Magazine. The Barred Island hiking trail is within walking distance of the house, and there are many other trails on Deer Isle managed by the Island Heritage Trust. Isle au Haut is a beautiful island off the coast of Stonington. It is home to portions of Acadia National Park, and is accessible by ferry from Stonington. In addition, Deer Isle offers many shops, galleries, 44 North Coffee, a farmer’s market, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Nervous Nellie’s, and the Deer Isle Granite Museum.
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are close enough for day trips, whale watches and more!

The walk ways were overgrown I had to cut down sticker branches by the one entrance way so no one would get cut. Overall the home was accommodating. The owner was responsive.

This is a large older house on the water with a private beach on a 10 acre setting. The house easily accommodated our family of six adults and four children. The views of the ocean are excellent. The property provides a secluded location with easy access to Stonington. The large living room and large dining room provide plenty of space and are very nice. The kitchen is stocked with cooking utensils and has two ovens and a cook top although lobsters and steaks are required to be cooked outside on the lobster cooker and barbecue grill. Meredith, the host, is very responsive to inquiries and easy to work with. Everyone had a good time.

Beautiful location! We had our six original family members, plus 2 new son in laws, 2 older parents, our adult niece, her husband and two grand nieces!
Our niece stayed in the apartment above the garage and it was perfect for them and their younger family. The older parents and our oldest and her husband stayed on the first floor on the right side in their own bedrooms. My other daughter and her husband stayed on the left side first floor. My wife and I stayed in the master bedroom on the second floor, which had a really nice king mattress, and our two younger children stayed in the other bedroom upstairs.
The size of the house was amazing considering how many of us there were. There were many times the house with silent as no one was stirring in the morning, or everyone was napping in the afternoon!
I would highly recommend staying here. Unfortunately the weather was foggy the entire time we were at the house and I’m sure we missed out on some spectacular views.
The kitchen came stocked with everything you would need to cook any meal. They were plenty of towels for showering, and for the beach.
The path to the private beach was really fun and the gazebo with the beautiful dock was great for hanging out!
My nephew caught a 30 inch Striper that weighted 12 pounds right off the dock!
Don’t waste your time looking for any other house. Book this, I promise you won’t regret it!

The photos promoting the house and property looked fancy, so we were happy to find a rustic retreat in what seemed an historic dwelling that must hold many stories. It was a great property for 3 generations. With group cooking and plenty of room to sit at the magnificent dining table overlooking the coast. Definitely plan to rent boards and kayaks from the Activity Center in bluehill. Many of us were out on the water every day

Granite Shores was the perfect place for our family of 10 - 6 adults and 4 children, ages 5-8. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The kids rotated between our private beach, fishing from the pier, hiking to Barred Island and its beach, playing ping pong and coloring in the garage, and using the apartment for daily “Cousin Quiet Time.” There were plenty of beach/sand toys for them. The adults (grandparents and two sets of parents) loved all of the above, plus cocktails and sunsets and morning coffee from the deck of the gazebo, cooking lobster (purchased right off the boat)on the outdoor burner, and shucking oysters from Long Cove Sea Farm. Everything was immaculately clean. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking. We appreciated the thoughtful touches such as nightlights in all the bathrooms, and bedside tables and reading lights on both sides of all the beds. The kids enjoyed the great selection of childrens games and books. There is a terrific “library” of books for adults as well. Other than Barred Island and one excursion to Stonington for lunch and ice cream, we never left the premises except for resupply trips to Burnt Cove Market. No one wanted to! Lastly, Meredith is a great communicator- almost instant responses to any of our questions. Thank you, Meredith for sharing that wonderful place with us!

First, what a view! The hours sits on a cliff over the bay and the views are out of this world. It is remote, so be prepared to drive a distance to get involved with vacation like things. This was exactly what we wanted. Traditional, old school, Maine. Very happy with our vacation week.

We loved our stay at this beautiful property situated between a serene coast and a magical fog forest. The house possesses its own unique charm that harkens back to a simpler time. But the best part of all for my group was the wildlife.
From the dock or kayaking just a little way out, we saw seals, porpoises, eagles, osprey, fish and gulls. At the private beach we saw too many sea creatures to list. Bunnies, deer, foxes and monarch butterflies were on the property too.
Our host, Meredith was welcoming and attentive. My group would go back again in a heartbeat. One of the best trips ever for our two families.

Wonderful Week
For a family separated by Covid, Granite Shores was the perfect place to reconnect and enjoy our love of nature together. House comfortably accommodated everyone from age 6 to 73. Owner quickly responded to any questions and made us feel very welcome.
Everyone wished we could have stayed longer!
