With a gorgeous top-to-bottom renovation that was completed in 2020 and sporting new updates for 2023, this lakefront cottage in the heart of historic Lakeside is truly one of a kind. This modern home is situated on a mid-size bluff above Orchard Beach, a wide, 80-foot stretch of sand that's shared by association members only at the north end of a long, walkable beach on a natural cove of Lake Michigan. Enjoy access to a private beach cabana, with easy access to chairs, umbrellas, and beach toys to make your excursions on the shores truly memorable.

This contemporary home is full of style and natural light, offering new appliances and fixtures throughout, an open and airy great room, and a fully equipped kitchen with an extra-large island and stainless steel appliances - all of which contribute to the authentic, beach-house ambience. Come home from the lakeshore each afternoon to rinse off the sand in the refreshing outdoor shower, get the gas grill going on the raised deck, or simply play with your kids in the spacious yard. Leave your swimsuits to spin in the private washer/dryer, and spend the evening hours telling stories in the warmth of the firepit outside.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. I stayed at The Gatehouse for a (much needed) solo pre-holiday get away. Everything was just perfect. The home has everything you need to relax, refresh, and recharge. The beach was impeccable, & the cabana was the perfect place to meditate for a bit. The home is fully stocked, SUPER clean, and the living room couch is unbelievably comfortable--I may have "accidentally" fallen asleep while reading on that couch! =) This stay was exactly what I needed to get ready for the holiday hustle & bustle. 10/10 recommend.

We loved this little house. We loved the access to the beach and the little shack was perfect for hanging out. House was very quiet and comfortable. Not ideal for large groups though. No indoor dining area. Not enough cups for 8 people even though the house sleeps 8. And the kitchen is not stocked well. It was extremely difficult to cook for 8 people with one medium sized pot. Also not enough towels or dishwasher fluid.

Great property. As described. Everything done online - no property manager. Listing should state there is no cell phone service - it is a dead zone. Good internet connection. TV with Roku for those rainy days and lots of games. Cabana was private for the house and had a mini-fridge. Saved many trips up the stairs to the house. My family had a wonderful time.

I would totally give the property and location 5 stars, just as pictured! However, Vacasa was hard to get in touch with and did not provide timely communication and did not give details on the property. Really need a binder and local property manager especially with limited cell coverage until you sign into wifi. Also, because of fees for vacasa and vrbo, rental rates were a bit misleading. Paid additional 60% of rack rate in fees& taxes. …shocking.

Love to the location, lovely spot. The home was very cute, nicely equipped and clean... I do have two complaints: 1. It was never mentioned that the home is right next to a very busy walking path to the lake, so you don't have much privacy...2. The bath sinks are tiny and clogged--I get that they are small spaces but boy, you really can't do anything in those sinks without making a mess on the floor so I would suggest providing rugs, but mostly unclog those sinks. It's kind of gross. For the money per night, sinks should run freely.

Overall, the house is new, clean, and very cozy. It’s a small property, only 1 suite, there’s no real room for food storage (no pantry), so it’s tricky to have a larger group you need to feed. The only downsides, besides the size, are: 1) that the beach access for all the public is right next to your front door, so you hear people all day going up and down to and from the beach. 2) there are no window treatments to be used in the bedrooms. You will wake up with the sun. 3) the beach itself is a couple hundred yards from the back porch, and you will have to go down 50-60 steps in a wooden staircase. If you have elderly folks joining you, this could be a deal breaker. All in all, it’s a nice property for 1-2 couples at most.

We enjoyed our stay! It is an old house, but has been nicely renovated. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable, and location was terrific with easy access to a secluded beach. Kitchen was well stocked! Check in and check out we’re also very easy. Beach chairs and an exterior shower along with several board games were also a nice bonus. We would definitely stay here again when back in the area.

Hello, The location for the property could not have been better - in respects to the beach. We loved. The association access was right next to our place and the backyard isn’t that private - due to the comings and going’s of others in the neighborhood to access the beach. This should be a little clearer in the details. Due to the fact we were not there during busy season it wasn’t a big deal. But during season - would have been annoying. Clean and plenty of space. Backyard and deck and fire pit - great. Older property - of we were there during July - august or during high temp weeks during the summer - I do not think that central air / air conditions would have made it. The coolest it would get was 75 and due to the lower temps in the evenings and we only stayed 3 nights - was not a big deal, we would have called if we were going to stay longer. Again we paid for the location which was great, I do feel that the rental is overpriced during the time period we stayed and considering the things stated above. The Gatehouse was a perfect place to spend a few weeks this summer! The house is nicely decorated, very clean, and beds were comfortable. We enjoyed spending our days on the beautiful beach and watching the sunsets every night. Kids loved the bunk room and the deck was the perfect place to grill out at the end of each day. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay! We hope to return soon!
