About this house rental
Butterfly Cottage is a truly unique cottage located in the Historic district of Saugatuck. Casual cottage styling mixed with colorful spaces, this cottage makes for a comfortable stay in Saugatuck. This quaint cottage will accommodate 8 or 9 people comfortably.
The main house has two bedrooms; one with a queen sized bed and the other with a full. The bungalow, just steps away in the backyard, serves as the third bedroom and has heat and air conditioning. The bungalow has a queen size bed and also bunk beds. The bungalow has a full bath that was added in 2011. As an added convenience, there are no steps getting into the bungalow.
Located in the heart of the village district, plan on walking to all the in-town locations. The river is just a few hundred feet away with shops, restaurants and parks located within a 3-10 minute walk. If you are familiar with Saugatuck, Butterfly cottage is a stone's throw from the public boat launch, Gleason's market and Ida Reds.
We are happy to be one of the few places to welcome well mannered pets in our cottage. An added plus, the back yard is fully fenced. Please note that if you plan on bringing your pet, you need to include them in your booking. When you are inputting the number of guests, you will want to make sure you add "Yes" to the pet question as well as to include the pet information in the booking. There is an extra cleaning fee of $100 if you let me know in your booking. If there is any evidence of a pet being at the home without you including this in the booking, there will be a charge of $500.
Off street parking for 1 larger vehicle or 2 smaller ones. There is also additional parking on the street right in front of the home when available.

We (a medium sized group of women in our mid to late 20s) stayed at the Butterfly Cottage for a weekend and enjoyed our stay! It's a super cute cottage that easily slept 8 people. It was easy to check in/check out of and had a great outdoor space for meals.
A few small things to mention: in the guest house bed there were a few ants both nights of our stay, when we arrived there was a tick in the tub of the main house shower (possibly due to the space being where the towels/linens were all put for the last guests) and we were a little tight on paper towel/toilet paper due to not having as much as mentioned in the initial check in.
Overall, we had a great time and the space was perfect for our needs even with these small things. We appreciate the Butterfly Cottage hosts and their beautiful home!

A lovely cottage home within walking distance to downtown Saugatuck. We had a wonderful stay and a fantastic weekend!

This was our second time staying here. We love the location, walking distance to downtown. The cottage is super cute and there are some great updates! Only complaint is there was dog hair all over the couch and dirty laundry was left in the washer, unwashed, when we checked in. We’re all human and I understand the cleaning people have a lot to do and it was something that was forgotten about, on accident. Has absolutely nothing to do with how wonderful the cottage is. We would definitely stay again.

The house is very cute & comfortable with room for friends to spread out.
My husband & I slept in the bungalow where it was nice to have a private bathroom.
The condition of the bungalow was very disappointing. Broken window blind, where we had to put pillows in the windows for privacy. The shower curtain was absolutely disgusting, black from mildew. (A $10 fix) and cobwebs everywhere. No ventilation which probably caused the mildew in the bathroom. We thought of turning on the ceiling fan, but it was very dirty too.

Quaint and comfy! The location is perfect. We love the Butterfly Cottage!

This cute cottage is walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and riverfront in Saugatuck. The main house has one bath, and the bungalow in the yard has one bath. We were two couples (one stayed in the house, one in the bungalow) so that worked out well. The house and furnishing are older, but comfortable. We appreciated the washer / dryer in the basement. Also a nice plus when you are away for a week. There is also one off-street parking space, which comes in handy on the weekends. Communication from the owner was great. Love Saugatuck!

We really enjoyed our time at the Butterfly Cottage! It was a cheery and comfortable space, and a great home base for our time at Lake Michigan. The Saugatuck/Douglas area seems particularly challenging for cell tower reception and reliable data, so having wifi was helpful when it was working smoothly. The back patio was lovely for summer evening dinners cooked in the kitchen, especially since we left home during a power outage with the full contents of our freezer - so we had plenty to cook! Some larger size bowls and platters would have been helpful for our party of 7, but creative use of pots and pans worked well! Thank you for a memorable stay!

It was wonderful. Fantastic location. Our elders could get around the house. The younger generation had the rear building. There was a fence for the dogs. The neighbors are friendly. We would come back. Charming cottage and property.

Property was very nice, loved the cheery colors in the home. Was close to town and within walking distance of everything. Only suggestion is to improve wifi. At times spotty and hard to stay connected with. Otherwise lovely home, nice neighborhood and town with lots to do

My Sister, niece and I stopped into Saugatuck for 2 nights on our way to Traverse City. Enjoyed the day experiencing the amazing shops! Always greeted with a big smile and hospitality. Butterfly Cottage was a comfortable, cozy and convenient retreat. Perfect for our getaway. Cannot emphasize the location enough!! My niece truly enjoyed the “bungalow ” for her solitude.
Awesome space and place!

The location was perfect for our trip. We are a group of women that wanted to shop, eat, go out and embrace the downtown. We were walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The property was quaint. I loved the decor. I wasn’t sure about the cottage being separated from the house but it worked well and both were nice. Overall I would recommend the cottage.

Five sisters ages 63-72.
We had a wonderful time talking, laughing and “catching up.” The Butterfly Cottage was perfect for what we wanted. Off the beaten path, but still close to shops. Younger people could have easily walked everywhere. Being sisters, we didn’t mind sharing beds just as we did as children!

Everything was very nice. So close to the restaurants and shops. Everything was in walking distance. Very clean cottage with all modern accessories. We had a great time. Thank you so much!!

Great family vacation experience
This was a great house to spend a week touring Saugatuck and relaxing. Location makes walking to Saugatuck shops, eateries, etc easy. The property was spacious to allow indoor activities to be spread out and give everyone space. Outdoor fire pit and patio were nice amenities and a great add. Kitchen table seating might be tight for a full house but there’s a ton of restaurants in Saugatuck. Nice place, host, and experience.

Girls Group - trip with friends. Some significant dust on all the ceiling fans And pet hair in a room all over the bench, which I cleaned up upon arrival ( I’m a professional cleaner so I’m pretty particular, and some significant dirt on baseboards was noticed) However, all communication with property point of contact about questions were handled very well! Prompt response, which was greatly appreciated. I’d stay here again with my friends- we enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect for walking straight into downtown! Cute decorations & roomy for our party of 4!

Bad Ending To A Good Stay
Overall this is a cute old cottage that has a charm about it. For the most part we were comfortable during our stay. The main house was cozy but there was no heat in the guest cottage. We called Katherine (property manager or owner I am not sure) and she promptly sent her maintenance guy to fix it. There were also bugs in the guest cottage bathroom which we dealt with ourselves and didn't reach out to Katherine in regards to this issue.
The day after we checked out I received a text from Katherine that said that our dog damaged a blind and there was urine on a top sheet that was on a bed. She sent a picture of the small portion of the blind that was damaged and also sent a video of the sheet going into the washing machine. This was an extra sheet that was already stained (but clean) that I found in the basement to cover the white couch to protect it from any dirt the dogs brought in from the muddy yard. Katherine demanded that I pay her $200 for the damage to the blind and for a new sheet set. Our younger dog was fully supervised or crated. Our older dog is a 7 year old 90lb Golden Retriever that does not chew on anything except his toys. I asked for a photo of the whole blind to see where the damage was located on the blind so I could understand how the damage could have occurred. She did not send one. I also asked for a receipt for the replacement blind and sheet and again she did not send it. I am happy to pay for any damages done during my stay. However, I would like additional photos and receipt to verify the damages and $200 charge. Katherine was not easy to work with to try to come to a resolution. She kept demanding that I pay $200 with no willingness to work towards a resolution. Tip- check both cottages for any damages when you arrive and take a picture.

Another wonderful stay at a most beautiful cottage!!!

Cute cottage
Overall the cottage and location were great. I gave 4 stars because when you walk in your greeted with a musty basement odor. The mattresses and pillows could be updated as they were not comfortable at all. The comforters/quilts could be washed, they looked a little dingy. Overall it was a nice stay

Fall getaway 2021
We loved the cottage. Fun decor and wonderful location! We would definitely stay here again!

We found the cottage exactly as advertised. The fenced yard was ideal for our furr baby and sitting outside enjoying the star lit sky with a bottle of local wine. The cottage had comfortable furnishings and beds. If you need a special pillow, we suggest you take it with you. The kitchen was well stocked if one would like to make meals.
Location is perfect for walking to Water and Butler Streets for shopping, eating, and wine tasting -- just 2-3 blocks.
We had a few minor issues which had no impact on our stay. When I emailed the owner, the response was quick and to our satisfaction.
We'll definitely stay at the Cottage again if available for our next trip to Saugatuck.
