We really enjoyed this home. I felt like I stepped back in time to my grandparents home. Dutch ovens, flowered china, knitted afghans, 1950s furniture. It made me smile
The bathrooms were newly updated and delightfully modern. Hot water, nice pressure
the views were spectacular and the boat dock a real plus
We would Definitely Stay here again
Things to know
!. The yards are big but covered with debris, branches, wood piles etc. Rattlesnakes were seen, please do not let pets or small children explore the yard without adults
2. Slow response time from Management so allow extra time. When available Jessica is warm and helpful

I hope this review will give some perspective for others. My family have been coming to this community for about 30 years or so. We also own our own house in the community but this 4th holiday we needed extra space.
The lake was about 90% full, which is pretty rare. There are not many houses with water access and this lake feeds all the vineyards in the valley, so it’s usually half full and I’d say no houses are water front at 75% water capacity.
If you have elders, no houses have convenient water access. This house has a nice walkway down to a private dock for a boat, but pending agility, it’s still a challenge. We had parents in late 60’s and they had a nice easy walk to the clubhouse down the street where we picked them up off the public docks.
The house is older, accepts pets (it doesn’t smell) and fits the description. It’s an upgrade from a ‘cabin on the lake’, but If you are expecting to have pristine, then you will be disappointed. The house has a unique layout due to the slope so there are a few levels with rooms on each level. Lots of steps getting around.
The kitchen has most everything you would need and I brought a lot that wasn’t used. Spices, pans, baking things. It’s mostly there unless you have very specific things you like.
It was over 100 degrees for most our trip and the AC was in great working order which made it very comfortable to relax inside.
We all enjoyed the stay and I will be renting this house again in needed and available.

Family had a great stay here! It's a larger house than I expected from the pictures and very roomie for a large family plus some kiddos and a dog. Short walk to the lake from the home. We used the dock as we brought a boat but it was a little funky, it was not clear if the dock was ours as there was another boat tied to it on one side. Nonetheless is was nice to have the dock near the house. The power in the area went out for about 18 hours so we ran into trouble cooking dinner and breakfast, the stove is electric. I'd recommend bringing food to BBQ as there is one on the deck. We unfortunately planned for dinner using a stove but we made do and we had fun with it. We toasted bagels on the BBQ lol. Association is strict on parking which I did not realize at time of booking, but this is my first time using VRBO and staying at Oak Shores. Plan for overflow parking and work with contact in advance . Overall we had a GREAT time and would happily return! Thanks so much Alice's wonderland!

The home had plenty of space? Great view of the lake. Disappointed that the patios weren’t cleaned. However, the house is definitely worth the price. Will stay here again.

Very nice peaceful getaway close to the lake. Lake levels are low but still had a nice time

Horrible, the owner emailed me less than 24 hours before check-in to cancel our reservation.
I booked two night with VRBO on June 18, for a two night stay. My reservation was June 29-July 1, less than 24 hours before check-in the owner called to inform me that her prior renters had trashed the house the night before. She ended up canceling my reservation and said I would receive a refund. My whole family of seven was packed, boat, people and supples for a two night stay at the house. VRBO was impossible to reach by phone, and the owner made me wait hours while she figured out the cancelation. Terrible, no compensation for our vacation cancelation. I will never rent from this owner or VRBO.

Relaxing retreat
This was the perfect place for our family. The owner provided all the information we needed to make the process of checking in and out very simple and convenient for us. The house had beautiful view of the lake and it was relaxing and quiet. Beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors with all the amenities. The home was very spacious and great for large or small family gatherings. Will definitely come back again.

Horrible!!!!
I reserved the property and it was confirmed a week prior and they took out the funds. Check in was at 12. I tried contacting the host since 8am the day of check in and they never responded. Drive for 8 hours to get there and they told me at the gate it was never confirmed and they threw me out. Still to this day I never heard from the host and I still don’t even have my money back

Nice Family Getaway
Perfect house for a no-frills family vacation. The water level in the lake is extremely low (about 20% capacity) so it was a bit of a trek into the basin to get to the water every day, but not the end of the world and, obviously, outside of the owner's control. Communication was a challenge in the months preceding our rental but it ended up working out. The community is lovely and very secure, which is great, and they strictly control who is allowed to enter at the gate. All of the people we met at the lake and walking the neighborhood were very friendly and the boaters weren't blasting obnoxious, non-child-friendly music as is the norm at other California lakes. The house is advertised as sleeping 10 but they only allow 8 names on the list of people approved for entry, although the owner allowed us to add the other 2 under "special comments." Unfortunately, when those people arrived at the gate they wouldn't let them enter since they weren't on the list of 8 names. After much discussion, they eventually let them in but we were worried for a while there and it was a bit embarrassing for those people! The house is rustic and not terribly clean, but that meant we didn't have to worry about much, which was nice. Sheets and towels were all very clean, though! The AC wasn't working the first day so my husband (who's an engineer and can fix almost anything) cleaned all of the filters (they were extremely dirty), but still no luck. The owner's dad was super nice and came out on Sunday to look at it. Turns out there was a breaker panel my husband hadn't found and, after flipping some breakers, it came on. The AC worked great the rest of the time we were there. The water pressure in the showers is very low so be prepared if you have a lot of hair and just know that it won't be rinsed well! The dishwasher flooded the kitchen every time we ran it so we just piled towels on the floor every time. The house is quirky and has a lot of character. All in all it was a pretty fun place to stay, several steps above camping and we'd stay there again!

Doesn't 't meet the price or expectations
What a surprise! The house was 85 degrees when we walked in. The air conditioning had no freon so it could not cool the hot air. For 2 days we had no air conditioning, it was 110 outside. It was unlivable! I called the owners and they said they couldn't do anything to fix it. I had heat stoke!
The counters and tables needed to be wipe down the were dirty & dusty. A full part of the downstairs had not been vacuumed and was clearly dirty and we had to clear out the cobwebs in all rooms. The toilet kept needing to be plunged rather than running clearly. You pay for cleaning but they don't open it up and get it ready for you and you pay top price each night rental fee plus cleaning.
The dock which they say is 50 ft from the house is not in the water now at all because the lake is down so low. It was a terribly depressing situation with children & a new baby.
I think the owners should be more responsible if they are going to try to make this someones vacation destination!

Racist area...white area they look at Asian Ppl like we are criminals
The lake is so dried. The private dock is on land. Also bring your own towels. It is so old and smell. If you are not white. Don’t go here. Everyone white people here are racist.

Best Views Ever!
This house was perfect for us. You couldn’t ask for a better location. The views of the lake were awesome. There were lots of options for sleeping arrangements and the beds were super comfortable. There were only four of us and it would have been fine with twice as many people. The kitchen had everything we needed. The WiFi was fast and we even had Directv. The back yard was very big and fenced all the way around. I would definitely stay there again. The only disappointment was the private dock wasn’t in the water due to the low lake levels but we were able to use the oak Shores boat slips so it didn’t really matter. We had a great weekend - wish we could have stayed longer.

Host cancelled at the last minute
3+ hours after check-in time, I received this message from the host:
"So sorry but the houses requires a week in advance booking. It is in a gated community and they are very strict. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience"
I had already made the 4 hour drive and received the email as I was pulling into Lake Nacimiento. I had to find a hotel and throw out all the food in my cooler including steaks. Such a waste of time and money. I should have been notified much sooner than 3 hours AFTER check in time. Completely ruined my weekend. When I tried to call VRBO to rectify the situation, the wait time on hold was so long that I never got through and finally just gave up. I'm very easy going, but this is terrible service and completely unacceptable. When you're renting a house, I'd think you'd know if the gated community you're in requires booking at least one week in advance. Ridiculous! Don't book this place. Oh, and they have yet to process my refund. That's the icing on the cake.
