Whales, seals, dolphin, eagles. It was all there.

A small very rustic cottage type of place to stay. It’s quite a drive from the main roads but it has everything you need for your stay. It’s clean and beds are comfortable. Best part were the peaceful morning sunrises.

This waterfront cottage was exactly what my son and I were hoping for! It was tastefully decorated with seaside decor and comfortable furniture inside and out. The outdoor fire pit was a big plus with its large pile of firewood to boot. We so much enjoyed our stay here, it was hard to say farewell... Thank you Cindy for a great experience.

The view from the front of the house is spectacular. However, the house is not ready for customers. Sink faucet froze the morning of day 2 and was never fixed. Inadequate lighting in the living and dining rooms. A can opener that was very difficult to use and then died completely.

Perfect location for quiet getaway. Kitchen is well equipped. This is a fairly remote location so bring your groceries with you. Lots of hiking nearby at Holbrook Island Sanctuary and various conservation areas. The dock and porch were wonderful places to hang out. Lots of seal and seabird activity.

We stayed from Monday to Friday (2 adults + 2 teens) and we enjoyed the cabin. It is in a very calm area (fantastic sleep every night) and a wonderful night sky. We spent most of our time on the dock or the porch. Bring your binoculars! I saw a king fisher, many cormorants, seagulls, some seals and of some hummingbirds. The beds were confortable, the kitchen well equipped and the shower had good pressure. The only caveat I would add is that it is in a remote area. Most restaurants are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. When they are open, they almost all close at 6pm. Make sure to plan ahead and make some reservations. Or stock up on groceries and just stay in. All in all, it’s a great place to simply relax and connect with your loved ones :)

Wish I could send a few more mornings sitting on the dock with a cup of tea.

My adult son and DIL stayed for 4 nights to go to Acadia National Park, but to also have a Maine coastal cottage. We loved the area and spent the 1st full day exploring the Holbrook Nature Preserve and Deer Island. Very removed from tourists, but beautiful quiet retreat. Glad that we stayed there!

The property and its location were just what we were looking for. The setting, right on the water's front, is spectacular.

Our family created long lasting memories at Cedar Cottage. We woke up with crisp air, sounds of the ocean and savored evening sunsets with magnificent views of Pumpkin Island and Little Deer Isle from the back porch. Cindy and her husband were great hosts, very hospitalbe, easy to communitate with and the cottage had all of the supplies needed for our long stay. Our overall experience was remarkable from location, ease of access and amenities. We are looking forward to our visit again next summer.

Everything was comfortable and well kept. The water view made the whole experience wonderful.

Stunning views of Little Deer Isle and nearby cove. Quiet friendly neighbors. Watch for ducks, porpoises, hummingbirds. Central to Castine and MMA; Blue Hill; Deer Isle/Stonington; Ellsworth; Bangor and of course, Bar Harbor/Mt. Desert Island/Arcadia. But honestly, I could stay on Cape Rosier. Wooded property means insects abound but the cedar cottage offers about 95% protection. Cooler nights; still mornings and the sunrise; breezes pick up about noon. It's a bit hot in the summer afternoon, but nearby beach offers a great respite. Watch the tide times. Water off dock is COLD, beware it'll take your breath away. Kayakers or canoists will love this place. Steer clear of the TREE STUMP ON THE RIGHT, near the wood pile, ACROSS FROM THE WELL PIPE. The owner Cindy is warm and hospitable; but will give you all the privacy you want. The house is well stocked with linens, towels, fans, pots pans and dishware; no tub, but shower water is plentiful, hot and strong. We hosted a dinner for 8 with no problems!

This is a sweet spot right next to the water. Cabin is quaint and rustic. View is spectacular! We rented kayaks and kayaked all around the cove and further out into the bay. Saw dolphins, seal and an eagle. Hummingbirds entertained us all day. Would recommend this quiet and picturesque spot!

Thank you Cindy for hosting us at your cabin. Kids loved the “camping-like” feeling, and grown-ups appreciated the deck and views of the cove.

A Real Maine Experience
Had a great time and really enjoyed the view. Well off the normal tourist path but worth the drive. A little over an hour to Bar Harbor but so much closer to what many a Mainer told us was, “a real Maine experience.”

We have rented short vacation rentals many times and this is the first time we were disappointed. Pros: The view is gorgeous! The cottage looks right out to this breathtaking view. The cottage is a typical Maine cabin on the water.
Cons: No floating dock there. It was shown in 5 of the pictures and mentioned in about half of the reviews. We chose this cottage for the dock so we could fish. When I texted the owner about it she was unapologetic and said it’s not out yet. Didn’t seem to care that it was missing for our stay. The cottage was cluttered, shabby and aging. Not a comfortable stay. The heater wasn’t working properly. When I texted the owner about it, she never responded. We were wondering if we were turning on the right heater knobs. But no response. And that is my biggest complaint. The owner responded the first few times but after my 4th text over 4 days, she just stopped responding. I would not recommend this property to anyone.

I have to be honest, the initial drive to the cottage made me a little nervous because it was longer than I had anticipated, and when I turned on the dirt road, I was not sure we had made the right choice. Then we walked in and I saw the view.....this was definitely a great choice for my husband and I. We really enjoyed our days staying at this cottage. It had everything we needed, and I slept better there than I have in months.
We started each morning sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch or wandering down to sit on the dock. We went out exploring the area each day and then happily returned to the cottage in the evenings to sit on the porch until it was dark.
Despite it's remote location, the cottage had great WiFi connection which was nice as we planned the next day's adventures.
We recommend the nearby Holbrook Island Sanctuary for fairly easy hikes in a beautiful setting. Definitely grab dinner one night at Strong Brewery and don't forget the growler on the desk like we did!
The owner responded quickly when I had a question a week before our reservation, and check in was a breeze! You can't drive up right next to the house (just a short, flat walk down the path), and there is a wagon available to use to transport things from the car.
If you are looking for a relaxing place off the beaten path, this is a great choice!

This property is a hidden gem! Cindy is generally prompt with her responses and has a handy guide at the cottage to some local spots (restaurants and other places to go). The check in process was a bit troublesome as the signage getting close to the property is scarce, particularly if you’re arriving in the dark. Ask Cindy ahead of time to clarify.
Otherwise, the cottage is as advertised inside, it is quaint and a bit dated, but everything works as it should and is clean. The absolute game changer is the view from the back porch/fire pit/dock. It makes it absolutely worth while and is gorgeous. I would highly recommend this location for that reason. About an hour and a half ride to Acadia National which was not bad.
Thank you Cindy!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this most rustic cabin. While clean, it was worn and aging, but everything we needed was there and operational. Our hosts were kind and gracious. The highlight of course was the setting, located on a quiet cove. We really enjoyed kayaking from the floating dock and relaxing while watching the lobster boats, seals, eagles and the beautiful shoreline. A bonus was a supply of wood so we could build a fire for the cool evenings. Definitely a place or relaxing and reflection. Thanks Cindy and Phil!

This is a sweet little vintage cottage with a lot of character and original charm. My husband, myself and 2 kids age 8 and 11 stayed for a week. We loved hanging out on the floating raft. At low tide it was like being able to peer into a giant tidal pool. We saw huge crabs, fish, hermit crabs, snails, a sea urchin and a baby starfish. It was easy to launch our kayak from the raft and the area is perfect for paddling. The porch in back overlooks the water and is the perfect spot to hang out any time of day to read or watch the boats. A couple of things to know: it was difficult to navigate into and out of the driveway. We arrived after dark and had no directions other than the address provided by VRBO. We backed into a tree (at about 1mph) after turning into the wrong “driveway” and dented our bumper and cracked a light. Even in the daylight it is difficult to get in and out especially with a bigger vehicle. We have a Honda Pilot so I can’t imagine getting there in a suburban or a truck. You need to park a little ways away and walk down a short path to get to the cottage. There is a wagon to haul your stuff which was helpful. There is a spot to get down and explore the shore but there is a steep drop off as the tide goes out that made me a little nervous. My kids are old enough to know to stay away from the edge but if they were younger it would’ve been worrisome. The sweet vintage kitchen has everything needed for cooking anything. The living room was cozy and the beds comfortable. It was nice for the kids to have their own space. We enjoyed eating out at Bagaduce Lunch and LDI lobster. Holbrook nature sanctuary had many nice trails. We did a day trip to Acadia and also took the mail boat to Isle Au Haut. Thank you Cindy for sharing this sweet cottage! We miss it already.

Peaceful locale on the water
I enjoyed my stay at the cottage. The boat dock was an especially nice feature for sitting by the water and watching the boats come in and out of the inlet. The night sky is nicely visible as this is a rural area. Small towns within 20-30 minutes drive make groceries, coffee, restaurants accessible.
The cottage itself is rustic, but clean and well-equipped, especially for cooking. Plenty of space to relax , and books on the shelves if you've forgotten to bring any. There are outside seating options, but make sure to bring your mosquito repellant as this part of the coast, being on a peninsula, is noticeably more humid than locations inland. The tap water is drinkable, but may not be what you're used to, so bringing bottled water is recommended. The cottage could do with a flashlight for visitors to used in the event they want to walk out on the boat dock after dark to watch the night sky, so also recommend bringing that along. Wildlife can be heard and sometimes seen in the area. Plenty of deer on the side of the roads, and I thought I heard some coyotes howling late at night. I had a small mammal (I think it was a flying squirrel) who made its way into the cottage for an evening. It made it an interesting, but enjoyable trip!

Great cabin on the water! Our family really enjoyed our stay and the house had everything we needed. We visited Acadia NP, Blue Hill and did a few local hikes in Brooksville during our visit. We enjoyed time on the porch, at firepit and taking in the views while we were at the house. The Wi-Fi was a little spotty so don't expect to be able to access if you need for school/work. We drove to Blue Hill Library the one day when a member of our family needed internet access for a school zoom call/test. Highly recommend this property! Thanks for sharing this beautiful location with us.

We loved our time at the Cedar Cottage. Everything was far above our expectations. The pictures of the view and property just don't do it justice. The cottage itself had a rustic charm that really appealed to us. I grew up in Maine and it reminded me of the family camps I spent my childhood visiting. The covered front porch looked right out on the bay and we were able to see the lobster boats coming and going. Two nights we even saw a pod of seals hunting by surrounding a school of fish and taking turns feeding right off the end of our dock. Just two houses down is a little beach that our kids spent every morning at. They loved splashing around in the water and climbing on the rocks. At night the stars were more brilliant than I have ever seen anywhere else. We were there the day Tropical Storm Elsa passed by the coast of Maine and watching the waves was amazing. After the storm cleared, that night you could actually see all the colors of the Milky Way. If I could, I would spend all summer there! We were all so relaxed and happy after our stay. Thank you Cindy for sharing this beautiful property with us for a few days!
