The Neighborhood:
The Faubourg Marigny, commonly just Marigny, is a hip neighborhood just "below" (down river from) the French Quarter. Best known for the great live music district on Frenchmen Street, the Marigny also offers neighborhood cafes & businesses, historic architecture, and more. It has the air of what the French Quarter was in it's golden days. It has a few small hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its "heart" is Washington Square Park (bounded by Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks. At Mardi Gras, the Marigny is one of the city's hidden hot spots. Very popular with locals, who enjoy partying in the streets without the busy atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Crowds gather at the corner of Royal and Kerlerec (outside of R-Bar Inn) as well as at the intersection of Royal and Franklin. Elaborate costumes are the order of the day, along with brass bands and many drummers. Two weeks before Mardi Gras, the Marigny is also the starting place for the Krewe du Vieux, a satirical, raunchy parade in 19th-century Carnival style! Complete with small floats drawn by krewe members and mules. Local cafes, restaurants and music venues line Frenchmen Street. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians, as well as a sizable gay and lesbian population. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers, Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman. Frenchmen Street is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood just below the lower edge of the Quarter. A 4 block stretch of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops mixed with live music venues make it one of the city's most hip places, catering more to locals than tourists (though tourists are certainly welcome, and welcomed). On any given night, one might find modern jazz, swinging traditional jazz, Latin American style music, rockabilly, and more within this small area.
Getting Around:
You can walk most places. There is a streetcar line that goes by the house (five blocks away) and can take you to the central business district. But really, you will be able to walk anywhere in the French quarter. For everything else, Lyfts are plentiful and quite cheap!
Other Things to Note:
House rules-
Quiet hours after 11pm - the owner lives on site
No parties allowed
No smoking inside
Interaction with Guests:
I don't plan to bother my guests, but if you need something I will be there in a second!

Great location. Very comfortable stay. Would recommend. (Personally could ditch the plastic lemons and fake flowers) but otherwise great place to stay.

Location is great, the property was clean and very nice

The property was well-appointed, newly renovated and very clean. Located in a really interesting part of New Orleans, it was walkable to where we wanted to go, which was exactly what we were looking for. Our only issue was loud music and talking in the backyard of the property 2 of the 4 nights we stayed that happened during the property's quiet hours until 2-3 am.

This was our 5th Mardi Grad and our first time in this neighborhood. We loved it and will be back. The house is in a great location. It is in great condition just like the photos on line. Quick walk to the French Quarter et al.
Great place!

We really enjoyed our stay for a long weekend. Great location near Frenchman's street. There is a coffee shop and some local bars across the street from this place. Home was very clean and beds were comfortable. Parking is in front of the home. We will stay here again when we go back.

There’s a lot of gems right there, you don’t have to always venture to the FQ.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and modern. No complaints whatsoever.
Be advised that while this is a 5-10 minute walk to Frenchmen Street, the corner it’s on backs onto two noisy bars. While not an issue during the day, you WILL hear people leaving the bars at night. Again, not a deal-breaker as the house is great, but just be advised.
Would definitely recommend as it’s such a short walk to some cool little coffee shops in the area and Frenchmen Street in the Quarter. Would book again!

Great place. Easy check in/out. Very clean.

What a wonderful place! Comfortable, clean, and an amazing location. 10/10 would recommend.

Pros:
-The house was very nicely decorated, clean, and well stocked. We had plenty of pillows and towels during our stay.
-It was great to have access to a washing machine and dryer. We went home with clean clothes so it was easy to unpack after our trip.
-1/2 mile walking distance to the French Quarter.
-The neighborhood was fairly safe. If you went a few blocks north, it got a little sketchy but those areas were easy to avoid. Seems typical for any urban neighborhood.
-Many restaurants, bars, and grocery shops within a short walking distance- we really enjoyed The Franklin, Silk Road and Flora’s Coffee.
-Easy to find street parking. We left our car parked right in front during our stay.
Cons:
-There are 2 bars literally right outside the back bedroom door and I don’t think they ever closed at night. The noise and light was hard to deal with while sleeping, so keep that in mind if you’re a light sleeper or early riser.
-There isn’t any outside seating. That would have been a nice thing to have on the front porch or even in the back patio.
-A throw blanket or two would have been a welcome addition in the living area.
Overall, I’d rate this location 8.5/10. We really liked the location for walking distance and the neighborhood seemed fairly safe. If we were more into the bar scene, this would have been a 10/10. The bar noise was the only major drawback!

Quaint, clean home with New Orleans flavor. The home is comfy & well stocked on necessities, the beds are awesome! Close to lots of good restaurants but not crowded or loud during our visit. Highly recommend this property. I especially love the porch, where we sat for a few minutes nightly before bed. Good people watching spot.

Perfect location for Red Dress Run and Frenchman Street!

Great location and property
We stayed for a week with two teenage girls and had a great time. The location is great and we felt safe the entire time. The owner originally tried to cancel our reservation and offer us another less desirable property but changed their mind and allowed us to keep our original reservation. The home is clean and neat and very comfortable.

Living It Up in NOLA
Check in was easy and the property was in one of my favorite parts of NOLA (grew up here). The place was very clean and exactly what I saw in the pictures. Will surely consider the next time I am back home.

The manager was very helpful and answered questions promptly. However there is not ample parking. There is a bar behind the property and it was noisy at night

Our family of 5 adults stayed at this property for a week. It is a beautifully remodeled shotgun house, about a 12 minute walk to the eastern edge of the French Quarter. We were able to comfortably walk everywhere. There were numerous great restaurants to be found within a 10 minute walk - especially on Frenchmen St. The property was fairly accurately shown on the website - with the exception that there was not access to a patio/deck/balcony or a lawn/garden as mentioned on the VRBO site. The house was stocked with most of the supplies you would need: salt/pepper/spices, oil, coffee, etc. along with toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The host was great with communication. The only downside we had was that the rear bedroom is close to a local bar and you could hear the patrons when they were noisily leaving the bar. Of course it might have been due to us being there during St. Patrick's Day festivities! Overall we would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay in New Orleans.

Everything was great, great communication, great neighborhood, close to everything. The only complaint was that the walls were thin so you could hear what was going on in the other side of the duplex, but it wasn't unbearable.
