About this house rental
Nestled into the woodland above North Sands beach, visitors to Salcombe now have a unique opportunity to stay in a property that has been an iconic fixture on the landscape for generations. The aptly named Woodlands is a four-bedroom holiday home that sleeps up to seven people, set in an idyllic and tranquil location overlooking the water.
Surrounded by mature gardens, there’s plenty of space to spend time outside in your own sanctuary – dining on the lawn, having coffee on the patio, or playing hide and seek amongst the trees. There’s also space for up to four cars outside the front of the house.
The historic property is set over three floors and has recently been refurbished. Enter on the ground floor, where there’s a small nook for hanging coats and leaving your shoes. To the right you will find an elegant dining room that’s perfect for long convivial evenings, and complete with a deep window seat for those who want to read a book and watch the world go by.
Along the corridor you will find a galley-style kitchen that looks out through original lattice windows onto the beach below. It is next to a stylish and spacious lounge area with comfy sofas, wood burner, a television and double doors leading onto the patio outside. Open them up and you can listen to the sound of the waves.
The lower ground floor is home to a spacious ‘snug’, which serves as a well-equipped TV and games room. It sits next to a large utility room and capacious leisure store room with adjacent shower room. Accessible from the outside, so you don’t need to traipse salty swimwear through the house, this is a dedicated space for storing and hanging body boards, swimwear, games and other beach and garden paraphernalia.
On the first floor of the property, there are four bedrooms including the master with a super king bed, a single room, a king size and a twin room. Each has views of either the woods, gardens, or beach, providing a peaceful retreat after a day of outdoor adventures. There’s also a bathroom complete with a bath and overhead shower.
Recommended for: Woodlands is the perfect place for families and friends to make happy memories.
Favourite feature: There’s so much to love about this property but the view must be one of the best in Devon.
Need to know:
- Woodlands has been part of the same family for three generations and has been lovingly refurbished to enable others to enjoy their own happy holidays here as well.

About a holiday in Salcombe
Woodlands is in an exceptional position on a hilltop between North and South Sands beaches. It is just outside the sailing town of Salcombe (approximately 25-minutes on foot) and has unrivalled views of the beach from its tranquil location amongst the trees. It’s in prime position for those who want to visit The Winking Prawn, a popular beachside restaurant at the bottom of the hill that’s known for its summer barbecue and seafood. The area is famed for its natural beauty and local charm. Blessed with more beaches than you can visit in a week, a jaw-dropping estuary, and magnificent walks along the South West Coast Path, it’s also filled with local traditions. For example, there’s the Town Regatta in August, excellent sailing opportunities, its own gin and ice cream factories, unparalleled clotted cream fudge, a magnificent bakery, and restaurants such as Captain Flint’s that have practically become a rite of passage for visitors.

Beautiful place to spend Christmas. Serene, with the waves crashing below. It felt very christmassy especially with the tasteful decorations that had been arranged at the property. It has a very well stocked kitchen, is very comfortable and clean – it’s just the perfect to hang out and cook. Lovely walks close by and a shortish stroll in to Salcombe. I have been here a few times previously and hope to come many times more…

The is a beautiful house in a great location.
As a family we had the most amazing time paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, walking and just having fun.
It is a house with history but at the same time extremely comfortable and well equipped.
Love this place and we were all very sad to leave.

Trees need attention
The house was immaculately clean and well kitted out. Location was good & it was a delightful (uphill walk into Salcombe). Unfortunately the overgrown trees & (barely kept) garden let very little sun into the garden or seated/decking area - this also restricted views enormously to the beautiful, closely situated beach.

Lovely location
Lovely location but wouldn’t suit anyone with mobility issues. Very steep road up from the beach also steep stairs to 2 floors. Feels smaller than the photos appear, especially the only bathroom being on the top/bedroom floor. The fridge/freezer had to be replaced during our stay and was put in the sitting room to save moving the old one out. Not ideal. Complimentary biscuits and coffee were out of date. No cheese grater, was promised but never arrived. The parking area is snug and shared with a Bridle path. Water pressure in bathroom (sink) was a dribble. We were very lucky with the weather but if we had been stuck inside for a week it would have been too small for 7 of us. Only 6 table mats provided and the Wi-Fi isn’t good.
Oh and we were offered an evening meal on our first night but then it couldn’t be provided.
Beds were very comfy, lovely towels and bedding. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
