Welcome to “Sun on the Brow”
Situated on the border of two of Ontario’s great cottage regions, Rideau Lakes and South Frontenac. Opinicon Lake is part of a series of lakes navigated by water travellers of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rideau River/Canal system since the mid-1800s. Davis Lock to the south draining into Sand lake and beyond towards Kingston, and northerly through Chaffey’s lock into Clear lake and on towards Ottawa. ‘Sun on the Brow’ is a beautiful setting with four cottages on a property total of 11.25 acres with over 750 feet of lakefront.
This 4 season cottage “Grandview” is the largest of the four and lives up to its name! Facing south, a large deck runs the entire length of the cottage and around the back with picture-perfect views of the lake from every vantage point. The cottage is surrounded on three sides by water. There’s a Dock & Fire Pit, complete with seating
Inside this freshly renovated 3 bedroom space is everything one could want in a cottage retreat. Two new bathrooms both with showers, a new kitchen with full-size appliances for the discerning chef, a coffee maker (*coffee included) and a dishwasher.
The Primary bedroom has a King size bed. The two remaining bedrooms have queen size beds for a sleeping total of six. All fresh linens are provided (because who wants to start a vacation by making beds?) Bath towels are provided too! A/C and a gas fireplace as seasonally required.
Sun on the Brow also has a Boat House Retreat. This 900-square-foot common room has a pool table, table soccer, air hockey, games and books with a panoramic view over Lake Opinicon for those who want to curl up and take in natural pleasures. Great for rainy day activity or anytime.
Opinicon is a peaceful lake but amenities are all close by. Less than five minutes away is ‘Chaffey’s Lock’. Here you will find two marinas, Brown’s and Franklin’s. Brown’s has a small general store and an LCBO/Beer store outlet.
The Historic Opinicon Inn is the main attraction in Chaffey’s Lock. Three restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining, an ice cream shop and 10 acres of beautiful grounds are features of this recently refurbished and renovated charming Inn.
For Hikers and nature lovers, the Cataraqui Trail passes through Chaffey’s Lock on the north side of Opinicon Lake. For the more experienced hikers, we have Foley Mountain in Westport.
Numerous golf courses are within 20 minutes to get your swing on!
Shopping and strolling in the lovely quaint waterfront villages of Newboro and Westport are also less than twenty minutes away with stores and restaurants and even a wonderful winery that has delicious wood-fired pizza!
There is plenty of room for your boat at Sun on the Brow, (if you have one- boat launching at Chaffey’s lock). We also have 3 small fishing boats for rent (boating and fishing licenses required).
We have added a Kayak Shack, it is home to our 7 Kayaks, 2 Paddle boards, Canoe and the Adult Lifejackets. The water is crystal clear and warm as Opinicon is not a very deep lake. Water shoes are recommended as the lake bottom is not sand. True to the Rideau Lakes area, Opinicon Lake is weedy.

This is our second year staying at Grandview and certainly won’t be our last. The cottage is spacious and spotless with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The views of the lake from the wrap around deck are stunning. Kim and Bill are fantastic hosts and are always close by to ensure you have everything you need.

Within one hour of arriving, I told the family that I'd be booking this cottage next year....and I did. As a Senior with mobility issues, this cottage offered me a chance to rest and spend time with my family. We were a group of 5 - from ages 4 to 64. At other cottages that we have stayed at through the years, we have always planned "Day Trips" because there was not enough to do to keep the grandkids occupied. They only left the cottage once (to go get ice cream and watch the Chaffey Lock). Even on rainy days, the kids (and adults) had a BLAST. Access to the Boathouse (game room) gave us a ton of options. Not having to bring our own firewood (and a family friendly firepit) was a HUGE bonus. Everything we needed was there. We just had to bring our clothes and food. And we didn't have to leave with our garbage (that has been a big frustration with other cottages)! The hosts are amazing too - thank you so much.

The Sun on the Brow cottages offered the ideal arrangement for our family of six and extended family members. We each enjoyed privacy in our own cottages but the large dining table in the Grandview Cottage allowed the 12 of us to gather together for meals. We’ve stayed at different locations on Opinicon and Indian Lakes over the past 35+ years and everyone agreed this was our favorite spot on the lake. Bill and Kim are amazing hosts who welcome you upon check-in and make themselves available to you throughout your stay. They have thoughtfully ensured that each cottage is well-stocked with everything one needs or wants and provide all the fun water toys for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. Our family is already looking forward to coming back next year!

The views from the cottage are absolutely stunning regardless of time of day! Great cottage with lovely view of the lake. Very clean with very comfortable beds and all the comforts of home. We travelled with family who were in their early eighties so loved the one floor layout and the great wraparound deck as well as the walk-in showers. Kim and Bill were easily accessible if we had any questions.

This tastefully decorated and spacious cottage has an incredible view of the lake. Enjoyed the watercraft and games room. The beds were delightful and the kitchen is very well stocked…including a crock pot and air fryer. Bill and Kim make themselves available and continue to keep the grounds lovely. The Grandview is all that it is described in the listing and more. I am a clean freak and it exceeded my cleanliness bar. The kitchen is better stalked than my kitchen at home and Kim and Bill were fabulous hosts going out of their way to answer all my questions. We loved our stay at Kim and Bill's cottage. Super clean place, with obvious care and attention to all details, very helpful and friendly hosts, with a super friendly dog also. Our pup loved meeting them all. The huge deck with amazing view over the lake is the best part. The cottage is up on a hill and gets a very nice airflow off the water so we didn't even need to turn on the air conditioner once and loved waking up with the windows open to the sounds of nature all around us. Hearing the calls of the loons out on the lake is what cottage life is all about. Spectacular sunrises if you have a dog and are up early like we are. So close to very cool cafes and restaurants within a 15 to 20 min drive in Westport or Portland. The Opinicon is a secret gem, and spending time at Chaffey's Locks is a must, you can stop in for ice cream next door after watching the boat traffic.

Exceeded expectations!
Owners great, very friendly and accommodating. When they say dog friendly, they really mean dog friendly. The standard of equipment eg kitchen ware was excellent. The wrap around deck got sun in the morning, and shade in the afternoon. Bonus for us, it was gated, so our puppy could free roam on the deck. The aircon worked well when needed. Water pressure and hot water was abundant. Water toys in very good condition. Certainly exceeded our expectations!

Best place and owners
I have been going to this lake for 35 years and stayed somewhere else. This was the best trip by far. The cottage was exceptional, clean and very convenient. The owners were the best. Kim and bill could not do enough for us. They even had the makings for smores in the cabin for us. We will definitely stay there next year. They even joined us for our fish fry.

Great Spot to Gather
This was a great spot to gather with family and friends. It is well secluded and quiet. The main house is well appointed with a full kitchen, a must when you just want to stay put and enjoy your company.
The weather didn't allow us to use the boat house much but it will be a bonus once summer is in full swing.
This will be a fantastic place for large family gatherings when the surrounding cottages are finished.

A perfect getaway
We were looking for a week of rest and relaxation and we were not disappointed. From the moment we met Kim and Bill at the time of check in to the moment we "had" to leave everything was perfect. The house was much better than the pictures and it's position on the lake was amazing. There was no one in sight and the stillness was amazing. The bird feeders around the house attracted a wide array of birds and the lake had an assortment of ducks and even a pair of swans. The area within an hours drive included many lovely towns such as Perth, Westport an Merrickville which are well worth exploring. If you want larger cities, Kingston is only 45 minutes south and even Ottawa is only an hour and half away.
Lots to do and see in this area and definitely will be back.

Perfect cottage getaway.
Situated on a private point, the Grandview cottage was stellar. Incredible views of the lake from every window, beautifully decorated in cottage style and immaculately clean. The hosts Kim and Bill were super friendly, responsive and eager to help make the stay great. Lots of wildlife everywhere to keep us entertained. We saw an otter, mink, beavers, and lots of birds on the feeders all day long. Can't wait to come back!

The view, calmness and experience of Opinicon lake is stunning! This cottage offers a great way to make the most of it! Great views from the dining/living room area, to the deck and dock. Owners were friendly, conversational, down to earth and helpful with anything we needed. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for an immersive, relaxing getaway on the lake.

Perfect getaway
Exceeded expectations. Bill and Kim are welcoming and accommodating hosts. The cottage is their home and very well appointed. Appreciated the cook's kitchen! We lucked out in selecting late Sept with no bugs when weather was still warm for outdoors. Beautiful sunrises, loon calls, and vistas. Hoping to return!
