Loved the view
Aside from items not working on the home. The one great thing about this place was the huge windows that look out to the beach.

Upon booking the property the photos gave the impression that the property was several yards apart. There was one house to the left that was so close less that maybe 10 or so yards away and another property to the right. We were expecting privacy. The next morning when we looked out of our back windows there were many vehicles and several people walking up and down the beach, loud music playing. It was not peaceful at all. The bath jacuzzi didn’t work and we were never notified before hand. One of the shower heads didn’t work either. There were stains on the furniture and broken outlet in the patio by the patio table. The beach chair and umbrella provided was all broken. I guess for the most part it was fair but for the amount we paid we expected a lot better condition and presentation. I guess these days you just don’t get what you pay for anymore.

Good Location , Aging Property
Pros:
Good location with quick access to the beach .
Space around the property for kids to play in .
Host/Owner onsite to greet and was responsive
Cons:
We had bad experience with the plumbing and water heaters that was being fixed even as we checked in - owner was responsive but the plumbers were terrible . This mostly ruined it for us since the hot water is a must with young kids
Property is generally old and needs TLC .
Bedding and linen was not well kept
Some Outlets were not working

Not bad / adequate (but best during the week when the beach is empty)
The location is pretty good during the week - the beach empties out - but during the weekends it can be pretty loud and trashy.
The ocean at this location is really interesting! It is really shallow, but super choppy - so, the water may only be to your knees, then a wave over your head will come. Fun to play and we really enjoyed it!
The house itself is OK. There were some nice surprises like a waffle maker and a Keurig coffee maker. There were some strange surprises - like signs in the bathroom saying "Please do not place toilet tissue in the toilet" - like, what?? We called to inquire about this, and apparently this unit has a "sensitive septic system" and they advised us to indeed place any used toilet tissue in the (unlined) trash can in the bathroom. Yuck!! She relented that just a bit down the toilet was OK, but to not overdo it. (??) A few other surprises were that the doors from the bedrooms, which look so lovely in the pictures, are not able to be opened. However, the air conditioning worked great so I am not complaining, just felt it wasn't quite honest from the pics. Also, the BBQ grill was unusable (dirty, not assembled) - but, I did not call about this because it wasn't a big deal for us.
Overall, it was a nice get away for our family, the house was adequate for our needs, and we would stay in the area again.

End of Summer Getaway
Casa Bonita offered a great little getaway before school starts. The house was right on the beach with an easy walk over directly behind the home.
Overall our stay was great with only a minor inconvenience which was the outside outlets did not work.
Great stay and we look forward to staying again!

Fantastic Location with a Few Concerns
My comments really echo just what I'd read in reviews before booking the property. This is a beautiful home, decorated nicely, with an unbeatable location and view.
However, the cloudy yellow water is a bit disconcerting and more than just what I've experienced at beach homes in the past. We purchased jugs of water when we realized we couldn't see through the glass coffee pot filled with water from the tap.
Many of the mattresses need to be replaced. The ones on the bunk in the master bedroom almost flatten when you lay down and squeaked every time my daughter rolled over during the night.
There were lots of mosquitoes, which is to be expected at the beach, but my son got over 30 bites. We did see one roach but no other bugs.
The grills in the photos are not available. There were two extremely rusted ones on the patio. There are also no metal pans in the kitchen, which made it difficult to heat biscuits and homemade pizza...
Despite these things we had a fantastic family trip. Sitting on the back deck in the morning and being able to go back and forth to the beach just over the walkway were unbeatable!

Would give it another try
As there was only one previous review to go by on what I might expect at this house, I was slightly unsure but it looked beautiful in the photos. First I'll list the bad and end with the good as overall we did have a nice time. I'm not a frequent goer but go enough to compare experiences in other Galveston and Surfside rentals.
1) Dead roaches as soon as we walked in (about 10-15 various sizes) in living room and kitchen area. Seems like someone sprayed recently and all died. However, no more bugs throughout our stay!
2) A/C filter was pretty old and A/C ran constantly and did not circulate air as the place was a bit dusty. This was resolved the next day!
3) Generally, the house seemed unoccupied for a while (dust and even some ash like powder in pots and pans). But once we got the patio door open and A/C circulating, the breeze cleared out a lot of that.
4) Water. This was the main reason for the 3 star review. All of the water (sink, bathroom, bathtub) had a yellowish tint and smelled of chemical. I was told that this is somewhat common and the "norm" in these areas. The few places I've been in Jamaica beach and homes closer to the Pass did not have this issue, so not sure. Maintenance was very responsive! He changed filer to kitchen sink but could not address issue with other faucets. Shower head water pressure is pretty dismal and it did seem slightly less chemically smellish than tub water or sink water. They said it had it's own filter. Hence bad water pressure and slightly cleaner water. We had 2 grandkids and so were pretty depending on washing, cooking, etc. and water is pretty essential. Didn't want the kids to develop some unknown rash or something so we minimized our shower/bath frequency.
Good parts.
LOCATION is absolutely perfect. Outdoor space (which previous reviewer noted as well) was fantastic. Those are the real reasons why you get a beach house right? Those are spot on. Bedroom comfort? It's average but no one complained. Plenty of room, spacious (7 of us).
If it wasn't for the water issue, this place would be a solid 4 and if it had some dusting/cleaning before our arrival, then it would be a solid 4.5 stars. If other beach goers feel that sort of water is common, then this place will be great. The property management was very responsive so that is a real plus! May look to rent again here later after a few more reviews to see if my assessment was too picky or if changes have been made. Thank you!

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Every year our family stays in Surfside and it's always great. Beach houses always have pluses and minuses. No exception this year. Casa Bonita had the room inside and out that we need. Beautiful and spacious. Some things concerned us and the verdict is still out if we will stay there next year. #1. We smelled mold/mildew in the living room area and kept doors open to help air it out. That is always concerning. #2 Outside deck has broken and loose rails and the deck is really rough. We have toddlers so we spent a lot of time corralling them away from the those railings and extracting splinters....even adults! #3. We would definitely stay again if the owners would add decent mattresses. They were pretty rough, too. #4. We LOVED the outside space. Watch out for the picnic table, tho. It is unstable. We had it full of food and people when someone got up and the whole thing tipped. Someone almost got a lap full of hot beans! The bad and ugly didnt outweigh the good....beachbums like us know it's about the beach not the house, but it has become really expensive and you expect comfort and safety.
