Trenton is the town just off of Mount Desert Island which is home to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We are just a mile from the first park picnic area and shortly after the fabled trails of Acadia including Beehive, Precipice, Cadillac Mtn, Beech Mtn, Little Long Pond, and all the popular tours like boating, puffins, lobstering, and lighthouses! It's an adventurer's paradise and that is exactly why we bought the Open Hearth Inn ;).
Free parking right outside your door! Bakery and Lunts Lobster shop within about a 1 min walk just across the road. Trenton is the gateway to Acadia and the park starts just half a mile down the road!
Located on Route 3 at the head of Mount Desert Island, The Open Hearth Inn is 12 miles to Bar Harbor, 9 miles to Acadia National Park, 15 miles to Bass Harbor Head Light, 12 miles to Southwest Harbor, 8 miles to Ellsworth, 35 miles to the Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park, 36 miles to Bangor, 65 miles to Camden and 163 miles to Portland. The Bar Harbor Hancock County Airport is a half-mile up the road.
The Open Hearth Inn makes a great home base for day trips around Downeast Maine and the coastal beauties such as Mount Desert Island (MDI to the locals).
The basis of the Open Hearth Inn is the main house, built in the 1820's it's best known for its historic charm. One of 20 rooms and everyone has plenty of space to stretch outside, gather in the old hearth room and play some board games, stretch out on the couch and watch movies on the common use 70" tv, make some new friends, and explore the real reason we call it 'Ohana'.
All Suites (5 in total) are located in the oldest part of the main building where you will find much of the original history of this circa 1820s home. The front door facing the road is the best entrance for the suites. You'll open the large wooden door and step into a piece of history. Suites 1 (to the left) and 2 (to the right) are located downstairs. Traveling up the stairs you will reach Suite 3 (to the left), Suite 4 (to the right), and Suite 5 (directly back). Staying in the Suites is best if you want to enjoy the oldest part of our centuries-old home. :)
Acadia National Park is just a quick 10 mins down the road and the of Bar Harbor a mere 20 mins, and Bar Harbor Airport is just 5 mins down the road from the inn as well. Experience the beauty of Mount Desert Island without the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor while still being fairly close to anything you could possibly need for the best Maine adventure. No matter the time of year; spring, summer, autumn, or winter The Open Hearth will always be waiting for you.
Pet Policy:
Here at Open Hearth Inn we welcome your four-legged family member. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us.
1. Please don't leave your pet in the rooms unattended.
Why? Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90's, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest.
Maine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy "Vacation Land" as much as humans do.
2. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have.
3. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas.
4. Please try to refrain your dog from barking.
We have dog treats, extra poo bags and a water bowl in the common room.
*There will be an additional cleaning fee charged if your pet makes a mess of the room or the bedding. We hope that you and your four-legged family member have a great stay here at Open Hearth Inn.
No other notes, feel free to call/email with any questions.

It was just as described. Very comfy, cozy and clean. The entire set up was very welcoming. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The hosts were very responsive if needed. Thank you so much for a great 3-night stay.

Very cool experience for people looking for something other than the typical vacation hotel/motel room at a very reasonable price. We used the shared kitchen and met other travelers. Bed was comfortable with memory foam. Nice to have a separate living area with satellite TV.

Handy location. Suite 2 was very nice and comfortable. Small complaint, need some instructions on TV operation, senior and not savvy with high tech.

We had a lovely stay at Ohana Inn. The house common areas were clean and the kitchen was well equipped with anything you’d ever need. The cabinets were labeled too! It is a “self serve” type stay which we liked. It is a lovely place to stay.

I had a great stay at the Open Hearth. It was convenient to Acadia and just up the street from a number of seafood places. Jasmine, the manager was fabulous. She quickly and happily responded to any of my needs and questions and was just a nice person to talk with.
I loved having two rooms and the fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room were convenient so I didn’t have to go into the general kitchen if I didn’t feel like being social. I will definitely stay again if in the area.

Nice accommodations, clean. Bedroom, large sitting room, bathroom. Access to kitchen, laundry, and other spaces. We texted a question to the manager, and had a reply within a reasonable amount of time. Good parking, well planned out. Great location. 15 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Close to gas, food, and a bakery across the street. You could hear road noise from the room, but it wasn’t overwhelming.

We had a wonderful stay at the Open Hearth Inn. We stayed in room 2 and it was just right; quaint, cozy and just right for us! It was also close to everything we were hoping to see.

This was a good place to stay for our couple day trip to Acadia. It's a short drive to the island and Bar Harbor. Suite 2 has a nice, big private living room and separate bedroom. It was nice to be able to use the other amenities on site like the shared living room spaces, kitchen, and laundry. Would definitely recommend this as a good value to stay near to Acadia!

Quint and charming
What a gorgeous property with such charm. The added amenities of the hot tub and fire pit were an added bonus. There's a bake shop and other restaurants and local spots to explore and enjoy.
