We are not a hotel but true to the vacation rental experience, which is we want to share our special location with you. We strive to keep our cleaning fees low, and we are generally 1/2 our competition on cleaning fees, but we expect you'll help us keep up with everything as you go as well. Some folks are looking for hotel standard everything or an vacation rental just like they stayed at in some big city. Thats not us ... we are catering to those of you who want seclusion, your own piece of heaven and of course the BEST views in Blowing Rock. We are 5 secluded acres in the woods ... our reviews feature guests who enjoy that experience and the occasional guest who doesn't get it and worries they may run into bugs & spiders outside, gets worried about a drive on a mountain gravel road, or didn't get it when we said we are "off the beat path". We are off the beaten path, come in enjoy the experience, know what we are about on the way in .... and thats why you booked us. We also do allow some pets under 50 pounds that you discuss with us prior to booking. We do not provide any food of any type, including coffee, especially during COVID. Thanks for looking at our cabin!
From the unmatched, far-reaching views along the Blue Ridge Parkway, to the quaint storybook mountain village, Blowing Rock, North Carolina is truly deserving of the title: "Crown of the Blue Ridge." Here you'll find popular family attractions including Tweetsie Railroad and The Blowing Rock, a plethora of unique downtown shops and outlets, and outdoor adventure ranging from hiking and biking to spelunking and bouldering. It's a venue for adventure, but also a place for ultimate relaxation. Indulge in a spa treatment, sample scrumptious vittles at our award-winning restaurants, or enjoy the hospitality at our local inns, bed and breakfasts, resorts, cabins or hotels.
Other things to note :
Please read our house rules . You must agree to these rules within 48 hours of booking via an online electronic “I Agree” statement back to us that you agree that your stay is bound by these house rules. We do this in leu of a written contract, we are happy to provide a written copy upon request.
Pets are only welcome if we discuss them in advance of booking your trip for our approval, including their type, weight (we allow under 50 pounds always, but ask us if larger), age (No puppies or cats ever!) and number of pets (generally we allow 1, but if they are very small maybe two if they already live together), always with an added fee per pet, agreement to use a pet crate if you ever leave them in the house and always let me know if you plan to bring one in advance of booking. Pets are not allowed on or in beds or on furniture.
Guest count - When you book with us we will ask you your guest count, this is then used for COVID-19 awareness and cleaning planning. You can not change or add guests without notifying us for approval. We reserve the right to not approve an increasing guest count prior to the trip, and we reserve the right to stop your trip if your guest count increases without asking our permission first. We hope you understand, but we do not just turn our cabin over, we require communication prior to guests being added regardless of the cabin’s potential for more guests.
After 4 guests we reserve the right to add a second cleaner for an additional $100. We try to keep our prices low when the guest count is low, after the first four guests we charge $35 per night per guest extra on all stays.
The Cabin is in the Mountains. The approach to the cabin means that you are comfortable driving a road in the woods, including driving up and down small gravel roads. Snow & ice are conditions you may find December 1 through March 31st we provide a shovel and a limited amount of rock salt at the cabin. Are you prepared for Snow and Ice for you, all guests, and your car is a question you must ask yourself when visiting us during the winter. We can’t forecast the weather, nor can we make it stop if it starts :-). Hence you need to be certain you can take care of yourselves and car (snowchains, or AWD, or 4x4 are the best options). In the event of a winter storm during your stay we will instruct you on where your vehicles will be placed for your safety, this may involve a short walk from that location to the cabin door . In general snow fall is light and usually melts the next day. Most of the gravel road is county maintained and thus cleared, however the last .5 miles up to the cabins is in a private neighborhood where snow removal is a group, best can do, best effort basis. That said we drive our Jeep 4x4 through all snow in and out of the same roads all the time, and we are used to snow. The winter months are wonderful months in Blowing Rock, great for a fire, some out door hiking, tubing, skiing and hot tubing, pls be vigilante on the weather as its usually in a forecast, and you can put yourselves and your cars in the right places for total success.
We are providing you a License to use our Cabin similar to that of renting a car, as a licensee you are bound to the cabin rules at all times, and you forgo the rights of a "lease" or "tenant". Violations of our cabin rules can result in your immediate removal from our cabin, by renting our cabin you agree to these terms. If you'd like a full copy of the license please let us know in advance and one will be provided to you.
WIFI - Its Satellite based. That means it has a delay and is not ideal for 2 way communication such ZOOM. Second it means that during a storm the weather can cloud out the connection and your WiFi may degrade. Most guests have found it great, streaming is possible if the weather is good, and we’ve had guests work and play in our cabin with out issue, but we do point this out as there are no buried cables or fiber on our remote properties.

The home was super clean but inviting. I cannot say enough about the views and mountainside. Absolutely breathtaking! Major winds on early Sunday morning and the owner came by to check on the home and our family. Wonderful guy! He really worked with us and answered all questions. If you want a secluded, cabin with breathtaking views and so close to Blowing rock/Boone area. THIS IS IT!! Will be staying again and again!

Perfect four nights. Very pleasant, clean, and a great kitchen and living area. View from bedroom ridiculously beautiful. We've stayed at 30-40 VRBO's and this was one of the best. Professional and responsive management. If you are looking for a scenic getaway, this is it.

Nice place! The first time you drive it, it seems too far from Blowing Rock but it is NOT! Nice place to chill and an easy drive to town. We enjoyed it!

We still love coming to The Red Rover - the hot tub and views are exquisite!

This cabin was great for our family of 4 (kids are 3 & 5). The space worked well and kids loved staying upstairs. I was concerned when we booked about how far we would be from Blowing Rock but there was no need for concern, the cabin is very close to town. The only item to be aware of is the stairs are very steep and were a little tough to navigate for the kids. We would definitely stay here again or recommend to a friend.

Once we got up the mountain roads and recovered, we were in awe of all the beauty.
The view was absolutely incredible!
The cabin was rustic but clean and attractive and provided everything we needed.
The hot tub was great the first evening and the weather was lovely so we sat outside on the porch a lot.
We shopped till we dropped and celebrated my birthday. We had such fun!
Two easy suggestions would be:
First, provide a large can of bug/mosquito spray and secondly, (and more important) get a comfy chair for the living area. There were 4 senior women and 3 places to sit in the evening.
Without another comfy chair, we probably would not return.
All in all, thank you for your home. It was a wonderful time for all!

Entry to this cabin is rugged and perfectly secluded. The entire area has beautiful views and many natural wonders to enjoy! If you're looking for an escape, this is it! We loved exploring the immediate area of the cabin and the picturesque sunrises and sunsets.
We had one difficulty with the fireplace and the owner was quick to resolve the issue. The interaction was super friendly and accommodating.
We happily recommend this stay for anyone with 4-wheel drive!

Put your 2WD in low gear to make it up the drive. The effort is well worth it. We will be back...

Glorious views
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Apple Ridge. The views were incredible and it was extremely private yet a short drive to Blowing Rock. The owners were so easy to communicate with and the house was clean and just as described in the listing. We would love to come back soon!

I wrote to the owners about the air conditioning, water heater piping, lack of ceiling fans, and electrical code concern. It would be interesting to see if they made changes or just gave me a "lip service" reply

We’re from Raleigh. I brought my 16-year-old and his three best buds for a getaway to go hiking and make great memories up in the mountains. We just did one night there but it was an unforgettable experience for them all, and just minutes away from great hiking at Glen Burnie falls.

Excellent remote cabin!
Chris, as a host, does it right! The property is well appointed, everything works, clear labels and instructions for all amenities. Communication was amazing and included a pre-arrival call to give us detailed driving instructions due to the winter weather. Without those instructions we could have been in danger given the sections of ice on the road.
All around great stay!
