We LOVED our stay at Twain Harte Charmer. The name describes it perfectly. Communication with John and Amy could not have been smoother and the instructions in the welcome letter made settling in so easy. The home was even more beautiful in person than in the photos and really was just the perfect home for a week away. We’re already looking forward to our next stay!

We love the Twain Harte area and what it has to offer for a family with young children (my grandnephew & grandniece are 5 & 8). One of the highlights of the area for us is Pinecrest Lake which is a 20-25 minute drive from this VRBO rental. Great for paddle boarding and kids playing with their sand toys.
Other activities included trips to play miniature golf downtown Twain Harte, and visits to Eproson park where it turned out the kids became more interested in the nearby creek with frogs than the playground which is actually quite nice and fun for the kiddos.
We loved this house which was perfect for our family of (5) adults & (2) kids. Great living room and dining room area for gathering. Kitchen has lots of storage space and was easy to cook in. Overall house was very clean, comfortable, good location and John & Amy Goulart were super Hosts and a pleasure to discuss our inquiries with.
We’ll be back!!!

My wife and I had a hreat time at this clean property. It is clear that John and Amy take great pride in this house, and ensuring that yheir guests enjoy their stay. We had everything we needed and the location is great-Downtown/Groceries are a walkable distance (if you're okay with the way back being uphill), and there is a nice hiking trail down the street.
We will definitely endeavor to stay here again.

While the guest bedrooms run small the primary bedroom and living room offered plenty of room for my husband and I with our five 6”4-6”8 adult sons and our dog Duke (who also enjoyed the gated yard).
I was a bit misled by the listing of a hot tub, which was the jacuzzi bath tub, which was too small for any of us, but other than that a really nice place and nice stay.

The property was clean and cozy, perfect for our party of 3, plus 2 small dogs. The owners were wonderful and great with communication! No complaints-- it was a simple check in process for an extremely relaxing weekend. I look forward to my next Twain Hart getaway.

John and Amy's cabin was a beautiful, clean and wonderful location for my friends and family to stay during our ski vacation at Dodge Ridge to celebrate my son's 6th birthday. Although we were advised to potentially bring extra napkins, detergent, and paper towels, the house ended up being very well stocked with all of these items and much more! I appreciated that John and Amy permitted prior guests to leave non-perishable and unexpired items in the cabin in case my party forgot anything (e.g., salt, pepper, oil, jam, saran wrap, sandwich baggies). Also, the kitchen was stocked well with various pots, pans, ceramic and non-breakable dishes for the kids too.
There were only 2 issues that we faced during our trip:
(1) The house is a the end of a cul-duc sac on a very step hill so my family and my friends experienced some issues pulling into the driveway without scratching our cars' undercarriage or tail pipe. But I called John to discuss and he promptly asked a neighbor to help and pointed us to alternative nearby locations we could park.
(2) We stayed during the winter so heat was a must! The house has a central heating system that warms the upstairs very well, but the downstairs bedrooms don't seem to get as much heat so there is a drastic temperature difference between the upstairs and lower levels.
All in all, we would not hesitate to stay and John and Amy's cabin again. My son is already asking when he can go back. :) Thank you John and Amy for letting us stay at your beautiful cabin and for your hospitality.

We were lucky enough to rent this property last minute for New Year’s weekend. My family of four were there for five nights. It was in a great location - very close to the snow and snow parks for the kids. The Twain Harte Market and Pizza Factory are right down the street. Other restaurants aren’t too far away and it’s about 15 minutes from Sonora, which has a movie theater that came in handy due to heavy rain.
It rained most of the time we were there so didn’t get to hike but it is located next to a trailhead. The one sunny day we had, we went to Yosemite. One note to guests: Google maps sends you down what turns into a single lane old Ferry road we later discovered is affectionately known as Murderer’s Gulch, a well-earned moniker particularly after the atmospheric river event the night before. I’d recommend backtracking down 108 and taking Highways, but we survived and have some great stories - like cutting branches from a downed tree to continue onward.
The house itself is nicely appointed and laid out. The hosts were communicative and accommodating; a pleasure to deal with.
We spent one day completely inside but never felt cramped. It just so happened to be the day of the College Football Playoff semifinals, imagine that.
A friendly neighbor let me know that the rain was turning to snow on our last morning there and we were hoping to extend but it’s easy to see why this property is popular, but we’ll be back!

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Amy and John's house in Twain Harte. We loved the location: nestled in the trees, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, and super close to Twain Harte center. Inside, the house is new and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the central a/c during the heat wave, and the proximity to the absolutely gorgeous Pinecrest Lake for swimming. We would love to stay again! Highly recommended. Thank you Amy and John for being such lovely hosts!

From the initial moment we walked in, the Twain Harte Charmer made us feel completely at home, but with an element of "mountain calm" that us city folk weren't realizing we so badly needed. After about 15 minutes of being there, my husband scolded me for not bringing my work laptop in an attempt to extend our stay and be able to work remotely.
Here's what we LOVED about our home-for-the-weekend:
* the location, which is at the end of a quiet cul de sac in a neigborhood with other very nice homes; that played a huge part in the homeiness feel
* it seems the home was built in the early 2000's and is in IMPECCABLE condition - the bottom floor doesn't even feel like it's ever been utilized...it has that "new house" smell which is remarkable for a home around 20 years old
* nice, new furniture that is very comfortable and blends with the rustic pine interior that sets off the charm
* proximity to a really cool hiking trail that takes you over the little tunnel/entry bridge as you enter Twain Harte
* super close to the local market that is on your way into downtown TH...the market had everything we needed
* only a mere 25 minutes down the road from Pinecrest Lake, where we spent a GLORIOUS day of doing absolutely nothing except swimming, napping, biking, repeating.
* plenty of space for people to stay; we planned to bring more members of our family, but they had last minute obligations and couldn't make it; I have no doubt that my young nephews would LOVED the adventure of exploring the mountains, as there was so much for kids to do: from outdoor adventures, to staying in and playing kid friendly games and making s'mores with the indoor s'mores kit; plus, there was a bottle of Martinelli's Sparkling Cider for the littles with the complimentary bottle of Gugliemo's Red wine for us "big kids"
John and Amy were very responsive for the few questions we had for them...they both seemed so easy-going.
We want to come back in the Fall with plans to work remotely; it is so comfortable there.
My husband is already planning his guys getaway trip too.
Thank you John and Amy for sharing your gem-of-a-home with us.

Home Away From Home
It was great coming back to all the conveniences of home after a fun-filled day on the lake. The home is clean, welcoming, and stocked with all your needs. It’s also very quiet with nice hiking trails located right in the neighborhood; and a local market stocked with all your meal needs. The area has key locations we enjoyed from water sports to a frog-jumping event with carnival rides held in nearby Calaveras County. We loved our stay!

Great Family Rental!
What a lovely rental and just as advertised! Nice quiet neighborhood and close to downtown! Cabin was very clean and well maintained! The kitchen was well stocked and the beds were nice and comfortable! The furniture and bedding appeared brand new and the decor had a wonderful cabin feel! Our girls loved the bunk beds and my husband and I enjoyed the patio off the master for our morning coffee. The grocery store was nearby and great for the few items we forgot. The hosts were quick to reply and very accommodating. Would love to come back in a few months and enjoy the nearby summer activities! Thanks so much!
