About this cottage rental
Set in its own conservation area in Barton, one of the historic villages that make up the popular seaside town of Torquay, South Devon; Honeysuckle is a beautiful Barn lovingly restored, with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, tucked away behind the 15th Century Devon longhouse, 'The Old Manor Farmhouse'
Together with Sweet Rose (1 bedroom cottage) and Threshing Barn (4 bedrooms), the 3 properties form ’Pilgrims Rest Cottages’; multi-award-winning, including ‘Most Pet Friendly’, that have been welcoming guests since 2009.
With countryside to the north, the coast to the east and all that Torquay, The English Riviera, and its nearby surrounds have to offer, historical guests have found it to be an ideal location for their stay – with the local shops, a stroll away, an added bonus. Martin and Kim (the owners) personal information folders, revealing countless gems in the area (walks, eateries, pubs, attractions, beaches…), enhance guests’ stays further.
Honeysuckle is a gem of a barn. Comfortably sleeping up to 4 guests plus infants, it makes an ideal base for families, couples, or friends looking to explore the English Riviera. With access to the shared courtyard and old walled orchard garden, this secure outdoor space also makes Honeysuckle the perfect choice for those who wish to bring their four-legged friends along. The same style and comfort that runs throughout this lovely collection of properties can be seen in Honeysuckle, and on the first floor you will find two beautiful double bedrooms which can be configured as super king beds or separated to twins based on your preferences. Beautiful furnishings and oak beams, and a bathroom. The stunning open plan lounge, dining room and fully equipped kitchen are found downstairs.
Parking and Property
From your allocated, off lane, parking for 1 car (with extra parking available on the lane alongside Pilgrims Rest), you will walk down a path through two white picket gates into the barns’ courtyard with white bistro tables and chairs, and ornate plant pots. Honeysuckle’s entrance is directly opposite the last gate you walk through.
Upon entering the property, you will be met with a cosy open plan lounge / dining room and kitchen; all decorated in warm colours, exposed beams, and oak pillars.
Up a set of historical, newel, spiral stairs, you will discover 2 well-appointed bedrooms and a family bathroom set into the exposed beams of this converted barn.

Pilgrims Pooches
Dogs are an important part of Pilgrims Rest Cottages and are very welcome with Pilgrims Rest Cottages an historical winner of the best dog friendly business on the English Riviera and South Devon.
The owners have dogs themselves, and over the years where annoyed at large extras for their dogs. They have, over the last 14 years, worked on a ‘Dog Free’ policy, asking owners to follow some basic rules, which to date have been fine with guests and enabling that policy to continue.
The Pilgrims Pooch rules include:
- Not letting your dog go upstairs in the bedrooms.
- Not letting you dog go on any furniture (if dog throws are brought, there can be
exceptions, but must be agreed at booking)
- Not leaving your dog home alone unless by prior agreement and discussion at
booking (the owners know that many dogs are fine on their own, and allow some
leeway here)
- Do not leave their dog to roam alone outside; being respectful of others who may be
staying at Pilgrims Rest
- Finally, as always pet owners are required to clean up after their pets and dispose of
pet mess in the bins provider in the car park.
- We do require a £50 refundable pet deposit which is refunded within 7 days after
departure with the approval of the cleaning team.
- Vacuum cleaners are provided to help, in each property.

Amazing
My sisters travelled to Torquay from all over the world to meet after not seeing each other for a few years and they couldn’t have asked for better accommodation! It was clean, well equipped and beautiful in every way - it really made their holiday.

Pleasant stay
Very pleasant well kept garden . The property
was as described. Spiral staircase is narrow and not suitable for elderly people . However there are safety gates at the top and bottom for children under supervision. The host Martin was very kind and welcoming and pets even get their own welcome letter and treats . Very pleasant stay all round . The frying pan needs to be replaced and additional bowls would be welcome .

Lovely!
Beautiful little house - perfect for us on our first post-covid holiday. Tucked away from the road but so close to the shops. Ideal.
Really lovely walks all around and would love to return when the weather is less February-like!
Martin was very welcoming and his mum was absolutely charming.
Definitely recommend!

We have recently returned from a relaxing peaceful stay at Pilgrim’s rest residing in Honeysuckle cottage. Martin was a brilliant host, very supportive to our family before we travelled, accommodating our extra requests to bring an extra guest and our dog Elsie. Any minor issue such as WiFi problems or requests for an iron were dealt with immediately..The set up of the three cottages and communal areas worked perfectly for us, we were blessed with lovely residents in the other properties so it was lovely to share a run down of our respective day’s adventures over a brew or a gin and tonic. The gardens are a real sun trap and a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the evening sunshine. The cottage itself is welcoming and comfy, and we were kindly gifted a welcome pack on arrival. Gorgeous rooms with exposed beams and very comfy beds. It is ideally placed for sightseeing. Local shops and takeaways are within walking distance. Can’t recommend the spot highly enough. Martin is a brilliant host with bags of enthusiasm and lots of local knowledge. Would love to return one day. 👍

We stayed at Honeysuckle for few months last winter. The place is beautiful, looks better in real life that on the photos and had everything we needed. The kitchen/lounge area has large windows and gets a lot of sunshine during the day. The kitchen had everything needed for a comfy stay and cooking there was very enjoyable. The rustic bedrooms located in the loft had a nice romantic touch and we could enjoy starry sky in the attic window on a clear night.
Martin and his partner were very friendly and helpful with all our requests. We booked on a short notice and Martin was helpful and prompt to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. Martin and his family took a good care of the property, courtyard and garden and it was a pleasure to enjoy the sunshine in a little garden on a sunny afternoon. Martin was very kind to help us with mail and other paperwork.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay with Martin very much and would gladly recommend it for a couple/family holiday in this beautiful area.

Clean, well-presented property in a good location a little out of town. Offstreet parking handy although a little bit tight with a big car. Wine, milk and cupcakes to greet us (along with a very helpful and friendly host). They provided lots of kids equipment (cot, potty, bath toys, booster seat, high chair, etc) which saved a lot of hassle/packing. Communication beforehand told us everything we needed to know and Martin responded to texts efficiently.
Lovely stay, if we want to come back to the area will definitely consider staying here again.

Parking is very tight; lots of manoeuvring to get the car parked. The property is clean, the ground floor is OK, but it has a very small spiral staircase that is the only access to the upper floor. Trying to get suitcases up these stairs is a real struggle, so beware if you have any mobility issues.
The bedrooms are good, with large beds, but there are no wardrobes, just a rail with 4 clothes hangers, which is not enough. The bathroom is cramped with little space to store things. The light above the sink had two different light bulbs in, the shelf was liable to tip as it wasn’t fixed, the mirror was not very well fixed to the wall and the door when opened, restricted access due to the sink intruding into the he room. Why have a bath in there, when a shower alone would have been more suitable? The washing up liquid and hand sanitiser were both diluted. Not a good detail in these Covid times.
Outside space is allocated, but small and a bit ‘hi de hi.’
All in all, a good location, but a lot of money for the actual property.
The owners son was on site and he was very pleasant and welcoming, so top marks to him.
Check in time of 1600 hours and check out time of 10:00 seems a bit harsh as you are effectively losing most of the day on both counts.
All in all, a pleasant break, but needs work.

It was just perfect for us - Walks from the door, ideally situated for visiting places, full of character, homely and cosy, lovely to return to after a day out with a great open plan downstairs space and a peaceful garden to chill out in. Well equipped, including lots of information in the cottage on walks, places of interest, eating in/out, provided by the owners, Martin and Kim, who greeted us with a warm friendly welcome and some welcome Prosecco! It is around a mile from the Costal path, a short drive to the coastal towns and on the local bus route - We had some fantastic walks to Babbacombe Downs, Maidencombe and Coffinswell, visited the lovely coastal towns of Brixham, Dartmouth and Salcombe, and had some great meals in fab restaurants and two beautiful thatched inns in the nearby villages including some delicious fresh plaice from Brixham Bay.Martin and Kim’s personal touch made a real difference - Great communication throughout, advice on walks, beaches, restaurants, different areas to visit etc. They really love the whole area and their energy, passion and enthusiasm for it is so infectious that we fell in love with it too! We would certainly go back to Honeysuckle after such a wonderful week.

Great for a short break
Clean and tidy. Hosts welcoming and informative.

Nice property, well equipped, but outside space could do with a bit of a tidy up and the entrance through to the property. One bedroom the radiator did not work and the bed linen and duvet and pillows could do with updating, towels very good though.

Perfect cosy cottage
Beautifully presented cottage, cosy, clean and homely. Contactless check-in ensured covid safety, hand sanitizer provided outside each cottage and the garden was segrated into separate areas to allow social distancing. Felt very safe which was important to us as we had been shielding. Host was lovely, friendly and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Would definitely love to go back.

Beautiful accomodation
Great place to stay with the children. The garden is shared- but there is another garden if another tenant has a dog and you're not a fan of dogs.

Fantastic week at Pilgrims Rest
Had a fantastic family holiday in Honeysuckle Cottage at Pilgrims rest, excellent location for everything the English Riviera has to offer. Cottage was immaculate and hosts friendly and helpful throughout out stay. Would highly recommend.

Great for kids and dogs
A lovely cottage in a great little village, ideal location for travelling to Torquay Paignton and brixham. Martin the owner was most helpful - let us drop our bikes off early as we arrived before check in. Also had some great recommendations of places to go. The house and gardens were ideal for our family (2 adults, 2 kids and a dog) and we we’re all made to feel welcome. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

Short Stay in Torquay
Martin was so welcoming and we were so glad to be out of London.
He fully explained all the new precautions in place due to COVID and we all felt very safe. The info in the house was great and we found some amazing coves to swim in.
The gardens were lovely and the house very well equipped.
Martin is so knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions.
Would definitely recommend.
It was the best start to our holiday as then we went on to Dartmoor and then Cornwall.

(Very) short break
Lovely cottage and great communication with the owner Martin. I was working in the area and my wife was staying down with me, it would have been a great base for the week but due to the current situation we had to travel home prematurely. When we can I would like to revisit, this time for a whole week. Stay safe.

Torquay February 2020
Great communication from start to finish, lovely cottage with all mod cons and a wealth if history. In a fantastic location close to many amenities and a short drive to the beach, town and countryside. We will be back!
4.8
Location a bit hard to find
The cottage situates at a tranquil location but it was hard to find as door number was not provided and it was behind another cottage. Apart from that, everything is nice and the cottage is cosy and comfortable. Love it very much.

Honeysuckle
I stayed at honeysuckle with my sister son and 2 dogs. Very friendly host and we felt very welcomed. Our stay here for a week was awesome, apart from a couple of minor things such as the tight stairwell and small bathroom sink we had no issues at all. Everything you needed was literally a 5 min walk up the road including Chinese and the best chippy I have tried here it was amazing. When we first arrived there was a nice bottle of wine waiting for us and treats for the dogs also everything we needed with regards to information and things to do locally which was really nice. Thank you martin for having us and we will definitely book again. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get away for a quiet stay or even the opposite it is truly a beautiful place to stay!
