About this apartment rental
Enjoy a stylish experience at this centrally-located place in downtown White Bear Lake. Steps away from our most popular bars and restaurants: Washington Square, Brickhouse, and Big Wood Brewery. Moments away from Lake Ave and the Mark Sather walking and biking trail.
The Lake Hideaway is nestled in White Bear's historic downtown. Located on 3rd Street in Hardy Hall (est. 1889). Enjoy a touch of history and unique art deco flare in your retreat.
The space was created to be an homage to White Bear's roots & culture, and modernized for our most favorite creature comforts. It's nestled in Hardy Hall's lowest level. The Lake Hideaway is the perfect opportunity to enjoy downtown White Bear and all of its amenities.
You enter your space with your own private entrance from the lobby of Hardy Hall. Down the stairs (The Lake Hideaway is in the basement of Hardy Hall), your retreat resides. You will find a great room to fulfill you cozy comfy needs: a sectional (that doubles as an extra bed), a smart TV providing access to your streaming needs, a fireplace, dining area, fully stocked game cabinet with crafts, full ethernet hardwire hookup (in dining area spacious enough to office) and WIFI to take your work remotely AND my most favorite features: repurposed subfloor shelving from the restoration, and outfitted stain glass shadow boxes. My goal for the space was for one to enjoy subtle nodes of history from the building, our creature comforts, with an art deco decor flare.
The kitchen overlooks the great room with a bar countertop and stools. The TV is mounted and it can pivot in the great room to overlook the lounging area, dining / game nook, or in the kitchen while you're cooking up a storm ;) It's fully stocked for all your cooking and baking needs - including a full sized dishwasher, oven / stove, and refrigerator.
From the kitchen a hallway resides to the bathroom, and bedrooms. The bathroom has a full shower, and linens / toiletries in abundance for you to enjoy. We hope to include all the little "forget me nots" just in case :)
Each bedroom has its own "getting ready" station with a mirror and shelving in addition to the bathroom. Both bedrooms have extra linens and fans residing in each closet.
Bedroom #1 has a queen bed with a TEMPUR-PEDIC topper, a TV with Xfinity Flex to access your streaming services, and blackout curtains to be away from the world. Bedroom #2 has two single beds, blackout curtains, and a secret nook in the closet with an old school students' desk.
You will have access to the entire space. It's private with your own secured entrance from the lobby of Hardy Hall.
Other things to note
+ Hardy Hall is a historic building built in 1889. Hardy Hall has three units, your unit is on the lowest level of the building (the basement of Hardy Hall). It is directly below Hair Bar, a salon and medspa. So please note that you should expect to hear footsteps above you during business hours during the day. Guests have commented that it's minimal. I typically run light music.
+ Main level unit contains WB's most desirable salon & med-spa: Hair Bar. Run upstairs for a quick facial or whatever beauty treatment you deserve :) Hair Bar operates Monday - Saturday during normal business hours. Outside of these, common areas and Hair Bar have quiet hours.
+ Parking is in rear of building with your own driveway, and 2 reserved parking spaces
+ The front porch and lobby is a shared space for everyone to enjoy
+ You may drop off luggage early and park in your spots before your arrival, just text me and we will store luggage for you

Cute and comfortable! Central to great food and shopping and coffee shops! Not to mention lake walks! Would absolutely stay there again.

We didn't spend much time there, but loved the location.

Great location! Can walk to all things in downtown White Bear Lake (shops, restaurants and the lake!).

My mom came to visit and needed a safe place to stay with walking access to food and nature. This location is perfect. The space is well furnished. The property owner communicated all instructions exceptionally.

Comfortable, clean, well equipped property in a walkable interesting town with lots to explore. The bottom step before the landing should possibly be marked somehow, all 4 of us almost missed it several times. The steps could be a hindrance for some people.

Such a well appointed place, everything you need. Location was right in all the action of downtown White Bear, walking distance to many shops and food. Wonderful front porch to relax on and take in the fresh air.

A friend and I booked this stay as a writing retreat. It is a very clean, well decorated, and well-appointed unit. The owner was good about responding promptly. We had some weather-related questions about extending our stay, etc. The internet worked great. The furniture was reasonably comfortable, and the temperature was good overall. Also, the location is great for shopping and eating out.
The downsides for us were the fact that we were in a basement unit with almost no natural light. This was as advertised, I just didn't think much about it until I experienced it. The floor above our unit was occupied by a business which was also as advertised in the description. However, there was a lot of noise without much buffer during business hours. Also, in the photo, the shared entry looks open and easy to come and go through. In reality, there are chairs in the entire small area which are occupied by business customers during business hours making it a little uncomfortable to bring your suitcases, etc. in and out. The stairs leading into the unit are very dark even with the overhead light and the small lights on the side of the stairs.
That said, overall this is a very nice, clean accommodation and I would just like others to know the downsides so they can prepare better for their stay. I would recommend the host and the property.

Loved the location....once we found it! The address and location pin on VRBO is NOT accurate. It shows the property on the west side of HWY 61, right next to Caribou Coffee. The only hint of where this is, is mention of the Gelato place which is right next door. Fortunately our daughter who lives in WBL knew about the gelato place and we then located the building. Once we settled in, we found this to be exactly what we were looking for. The apartment is cozy and functional. Parking is great since it is off street. Location in the WBL downtown is perfect for shopping and just finding places to eat and drink. I highly recommend the American Legion just up the street for drinks, darts and karaoke. Brickhouse has great food and nice atmosphere. To VRBO and the owner, just get the location and directions correct please!

Sydney has done a great job of restoring Hardy Hall. It was quite comfortable. The bed was perfect, and the kitchen was stocked well for our needs. With the property being in the heart of White Bear Lake (it would be next to impossible not to fall in love with the town) there are so many great places to explore, the kitchen was hardly used. I agree with another reviewer, bring some warm pajamas, as it gets cool, but Sydney was proactive with telling us how to better control the temp to keep it comfortable. Communication was excellent, we really felt like we found a gem of a place to stay!

Had a hiccup with check-in because I only used the app- once I reviewed comms though host did send everything through email as well and I’m sure this specific thing will be addressed in the future. Host was responsive and great to work with. This a lovely hideaway nestled right in the heart of white bear. Great location and it had everything we needed. Also, I loved that we could bring our dog! While the steps to the basement are a bit steep for ADA folks, the unit is all one level with a walk-in shower. Internet was quite fast, my husband’s work required a lot of bandwidth for uploads and downloads, and he had no issues. 2 reserved parking spaces were great. Would recommend for sure! Washer/dryer in unit is nice for longer stays too. So much you can walk to from here. Thank you for a great visit!!!

We had a mother/daughter getaway. Could walk anywhere, loved the town, and all restaurants and shops. Roads were beautifully snow covered and we used Uber also. It was very clean and comfy in the unit in all ways possible, We needed nothing and would return or suggest for a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 children) or for anyone. They provided games, puzzles, just as described. 2 parking spots available in back. Go!
The only thing we would suggest is bring cool pjs because the temperature at night rose to 76-78 both nights and we were unable to adjust our vents. They did provide nice fans.

We absolutely loved our stay here, and will certainly plan to return in the future! I stayed with some of my girlfriends for a girls trip mid-week, and it was the perfect space for us to relax and enjoy each other's company for a few days. It was perfectly walkable to all the downtown area, and close to everything. The hostess was easy to communicate with, and we had a fantastic stay! Highly recommend!! The beds are also super comfortable and bedding is wonderful as well!

Amazing!
Were in town for a wedding and opted for a rental rather than a hotel. Could not be more happy with our choice! The Lake Hideaway was perfect for our group of 5 (two couples and a fifth wheel 🤣). The apartment was exactly as listed. Super nicely decorated and SUCH comfy beds. Walking distance to EVERYTHING, but we especially loved the brewery, literally across the street. 🍻 I told everyone I met in town this weekend about this place and will definitely be back if I find myself in WBL soon. Thank you!!!

Perfect Getaway
The Lake Hideaway was a perfect weekend getaway for my friends and me. Sydney was such a friendly and accommodating host making sure our stay was comfortable.
And it was! The renovation of Lake Hideaway is beautiful with so many little touches to make your stay inviting and cozy.
Everything was perfectly clean, the beds were extremely comfortable and Sydney was a great host! The rental is located within walking distance to the lake, shops and restaurants. We would definitely book again!

Absolutely Lovely!
Not only is the building a great historic renovation, but Sydney was incredibly easy to communicate with, and curated a lovely place to stay! This listing is in the lowest level of the building but you would never assume that it’s in the basement of a building it was so clean, cute and cozy.
The only bummer is we couldn’t stay longer! Would absolutely visit again!
