Jimmy Buffett sings it best, "Changes in Latitude, changes in attitudes. Nothing remains quite the same... If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane."
Wow! What an idyllic spot along the shores of Houghton Lake to capture those moments of laughter with family and friends. This isn't your grandma's Up North cottage (not that there is anything wrong with that), as this is actually a brand new lake house!
It is rare to find a vacation rental lake house that has been newly constructed (2022), purposely created by one family to share their new space with others. It's has both fun and simple elements through which the lake house shines. The plethora of windows creates an ambiance where at each turn, you catch a glimpse of the classic Houghton Lake. Plus, you can sleep well on those hot summer nights with central air conditioning.
The kitchen prep area surrounds the dining table for all, so keeping the family together, sharing meals, drinks and laughter is the heartbeat of the Changes in Latitude Lake House. From the dining area to the living room and outdoor spaces, togetherness rings true.
Since time spent outdoors is key to your Up North vacation, there are 2 outdoor spaces designed to bring out the best conversations and opportunities for laughter. One, right along the water with comfortable seating surrounding the firepit, while the other is closer to the house. It's easy to watch the kids swim, or watch the setting sun together.
Since the property owner's often bring their own dog, your furry family member is welcomed too.
Keep in mind that since this is a brand new building and the space will be blossoming with each new family that adds it's memories to the mix, the landscaping is growing too. Each year you return, you'll be able to see the growth first hand.

The property is beyond words! There is everything one would need and then some! The views are spectacular, house is impeccable, and location an A+. Highly recommend choosing for your vacation!

House was great, very well stocked. We had 4 generations in the house with an age range of 8-88. It was accommodating and comfortable for everyone. We loved the concrete patio and chairs around the built in fire pit. It was nice that there were grill options and the big grate on the fire, we cooked dinner there one of the nights. Would definitely consider this property for future stays.

We enjoyed the layout of the home and beautiful lakefront location! Our family had a great time sitting around the fire, playing basketball, and board games! A great touch was the s’mores kit provided for us! We look forward to staying again soon!

House was impeccable. Everything we could have wanted.

Roomy! We were a family of six and had plenty of room, plenty of bathrooms and a lovely outdoor space with a fire pit. Convenient location to grocery stores, restaurants, The Pines Theater as well as a walkable neighborhood nearby. We rented a pontoon boat and the dock had a prepped spot to safely tie up to.

This place has it all. Very clean, well appointed with amenities, and great location. The home smells new and having 3 bathrooms with a big family helps. Would definitely recommend and would rent again

This house was amazing and had everything that we needed for our weekend getaway. What we loved is they provided amenities in abundance, enough linen, soaps, kitchenware, etc. They thought of everything. The house itself is very modern and well maintained. There are clear instructions on everything, which is great. They had a nice dock that you can use if you bring a boat or rent a boat, which is a huge plus.
Only minor improvement that I suggest is more specific directions on how to dock your boat, especially given the low water levels in the lake.

This property was so much better than I expected it to be. The home was spacious even with 7 guests and a dog. The neighbor was also so friendly! She came over and introduced herself. The weather was a little disappointing but the home and activities (games) definitely made up for it. Thank you so much!

My family had an amazing time in such a wonderful environment of this home. We enjoyed the lake, sitting by a bonfire, roasting marshmellows, and of course the shopping that was available. We look forward to returning again!

We were in Houghton Lake for my mother-in-law’s funeral. This place was so beautiful and it was such a comfort for my husband and I and our children to have such a beautiful and comfortable place to stay during this stressful time. Everything was top notch. Cannot say enough about our experience and the hosts!

We stayed here a few days after the refrigerator went out at our original rental. Man, I wish this was available for our entire vacation, just a wonderful rental. We will be keeping an eye on it for 2024 in the hopes we get lucky enough to stay here again. Neighbor was very friendly, view was great, plenty of room for a big crew and the Smore station was a nice addition even though we didn't partake!

The home itself is fantastic! It was the absolutely perfect size and layout for four adults and two teenagers. Lots of little extras and just-like-at-home-conveniences that definitely did not go overlooked. Beautifully done!
A bit of disappointment was surrounding cleanliness; we did not bring pets and we kept seeing pet hair all week, not only on the floors and some of the furniture/the provided blankets in the living room but it was found all over the top of the kitchen stove the first day. The owners offered to come back to clean but I had already taken care of it before preparing to cook, cleaning the entire countertop etc. area. The outside of the house could use a leaf blower for guests to blow off the cobwebs, dead bugs and debris if not going to be done prior to guest arrival. I took care of all that along with finding and putting the outdoor furniture cushions in place so we could sit outside comfortably. Also, just as a suggestion, if there’s going to be a pontoon boat on the lift attached to the dock that comes with the home, consider renting it. We asked, answer was no. It looked like it hasn’t been touched/cleaned all summer so it was an overall eye sore that could have really been an added benefit for fun on the lake.

I almost don’t want to leave an amazing review because I want to be able to come back and it not be booked up! This place is amazing! The pictures don’t do the house and lake justice. The owners have thought of everything in the design to the little touches! Will definitely be booking again!

Mini vacation
Changes in Latitude is a beautiful house and a perfect location in Houghton Lake! They thought of everything for renters. A smores kit, glow bracelets for the kids, games, extra toothbrushes and shower gels if needed, a fantastic ice maker, fishing rods.... The only thing was in the main bedroom there was quite a bit of dark dog hair on the floor and inside the bedsheets. (Our dog has white fur) The couple that stayed in there swept up a lot of fur and the first morning their clothes were covered in fur after sleeping on the sheets. The couches did have a strong dog smell as well.
All in all it was a great weekend and we'd definitely be back to stay!

Very nice and fun place to stay.
I love the layout of the house and a bathroom attached to every bedroom was very nice. Plenty of fun things to do like yard games, basketball, foosball, and more. Great place to stay for a relaxing getaway.
