I was excited about this home as soon as I saw the pictures and it looked just as good or better than them. This home is very close to the various state parks. It is not close to a real grocery store so I highly recommend you hit Crescent City in the north or Eureka/Trinidad/McKinleyville in the south for your food needs. The market in town is very expensive and limited. The home had everything we could have desired except for good wi-fi which was shaky at best. Also, the internet service went out for a couple of days so no TV and we had to rely on phone wi-fi for Internet.
About the road noise previous guests complained about: if you are a person who likes the sound of white noise when you sleep you won't be bothered and in fact may get better sleep. But if you like complete quiet this may not be the place for you.
We enjoyed our stay and would likely stay again if ever in the area.

Great spot to use as HQ when visiting the Redwood park(s). Nice and clean. Near the Orick Market that seems to have everything (groceries, ice cream!, etc.). There is a bit of road noise as it is very close to the main road.

It was fun thinking about the history inside this place. It had everything you would need, apart from food/coffee/condiments. Bed was very cozy, courtyard lovely. Yah, the proximity of the traffic took some getting used to, but it was quiet enough at night.

It's an old church with the raised pulpit as the kitchen and dining area. Nice to have the bbq and wooden table in the back yard. Beautiful flowers in the front and back yards.

My husband and I stayed in Orick for our anniversary and I'm happy to report that this little rental provided a beautiful, quaint, comfortable homebase between trips to go hike the forest and rockhound at the beach. The wifi is a little weak, but worked well enough to keep up informed and entertained. All appliances were clean and in good working order. The beds and seating were comfortable and the TV is the perfect size for watching movies in the evening.
I must add that the small, fenced yard is delightful; I met a little farm kitty and talked to a couple horses over the fence. We could watch the ducks in the pond over the fence as well and the rambling nasturtium at the backsteps with the swallows nest above the door adds to the quaint country feel.
I recommend a trip to Edebee's Snack Shack while you're in town and attest that the Orick Market has a fair selection of groceries, even if you don't need anything you should stop in for a banana slug magnet.
Without a doubt this trip will remain dear in our memories.

It’s a great little place on Highway 101 providing a respite when hiking in the Prairie Creek Redwood Park. The location is perfect for accessing the beach and forest. And despite being on the highway, it’s very quiet. At night, we loved laying in bed and watching the big TV. We were also grateful that we could do laundry. There’s no real restaurant in Orick, but we were able to buy groceries at the market and cook at the house. The backyard is charming with a small farm behind it and forest on the hill. It will be a fond memory for us.

This house (former church) was perfect for my wife and I. It is only about ten minutes away from Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and the Newton Drury Pkwy. In the other direction, it is only about ten minutes from the beach! The location was perfect. The house is located right off of Hwy 101 but the noise from traffic wasn't too bad. The house was outfitted with every thing expected and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

Great house, great location. Heater didn't work- managed to reset it a couple times, but froze overnight.

The cabin has everything you need and was very interesting having been an old church. It is as close as you can get to some of the sights in the Redwoods. It was only a 10-minute drive to the trail to see Fern Canyon and the elk herd at Elk Meadow. There are several great trails nearby. The Cathedral Trail is not too difficult and gets its name from the awe-inspiring trees you see along the way. We went back a second day and did the trail twice. The city of Orick itself has no gas station and only one small restaurant that has limited hours, so you need to gas up and get supplies before arriving. Trinidad has several nice places to eat, gas, and a decent grocery. There is also a small museum there that is worth the time if you like history. We walked the trail up to where the lighthouse used to be. It was a fairly easy walk and from up there you get a beautiful almost 360-degree view of the historic fishing village of Trinidad and the beautiful coastline.

It's a renovated former church so it's open and spacious. I would say it gives you a feeling of a fun slumber party. All the beds are are in a very large area. You can open and use the various beds or not. The bathroom is walled off, but the rest is open to the kitchen, dining and sleeping areas. It's warm and inviting and nicely decorated.

The location was close to the Redwood National Forest so very convenient for hiking. The space was clean, nicely decorated and had everything needed for a comfortable stay including lots of hot water. The TV and entertainment system was excellent with full access including Netflix. However, the heating system was not working properly so it was freezing overnight and in the morning. On our last morning we also had no hot water at all. This rental unit is right on the highway so traffic noise is an issue if sensitive to that.

Pros: tidy; close for hiking in redwood; see elks from the property.
Cons: about 100 feet from route 101, loud traffic noise.

The little church house was charming from the inside out. The garden in the front & backyard was beautiful. The inside was so large and roomy! After a long day in the giant redwoods we grilled burgers & cold beers, we could see a large bull elk grazing with the cattle. It doesn’t get much better! I highly recommend this little church home; the location is ideal.

Nice place. On Hwy 101. Close to beach and Redwood forest. Elk in the area. Long way to any good grocery store. Or restaurant

We loved our time at Gateway Cottage. It was sparkling clean and the surrounding landscape was beautiful. It was a short car ride from many great hiking spots.

This was the perfect place for 3 of us since we each had our own bed. The kitchen was well-stocked and ready to use. The bathroom was clean. The backyard/garden was very inviting and included a grill and picnic table. It is interesting and unique! The only downside may be that there are not many services in the area. Otherwise, it is in the middle of the Redwoods parks and close to some great trails.
