I booked because I had known this hotel had undergone significant renovation's. Also to my surprise was this hotel is VALET PARKING ONLY. In little old Hilo, come on Hilton READ THE ROOM. I am from Hilo and I can tell you there is not one business or hotel that mandates valet parking. I wish I had been notified about this prior to check in but had I, I probably would’ve canceled. And boy do I wish I did. It’s an obvious cash grab for a failing hotel.
I had no issues with the staff they were great but the executives who are running this place are out of touch.
Over all I was deeply disappointed upon getting to my room there were putty marks all over the walls and the original windows peeling all over the floor.
The elevator set off a fire alarm my first morning and then was out of commission my week long stay making getting up or down a pain.

Check-in was super fast and easy. Michael was very helpful in setting up the luau. The resort is beautiful surrounded by amazing flowers and tropical foliage. The pools are spacious and kept very clean. Even though the hotel is not new, it is kept very well maintained. The mantra ray night snorkeling adventure is right off the hotel, also.

Extremely disappointed. Upon arrival we were informed the room we booked 6 months prior was not available (corner king with lanai) They stated they were"downgrading"us to a double queen at the reception desk. I asked why and the receptionist said its not my fault you booked through expedia. You should have booked directly through us and said that hotels.com rents out rooms that are not available all the time and they shouldn't. I stated they should compensate us back for the downgraded room. She refused compensation in any way stating the room was nice. We were tired after flying all day and it was late. We were left with no options but to stay. So what started bad only got worse. The room is nothing like the pictures. It is dated with torn carpet. We had to step over exposed tack strip every time we walked to the bathroom. The pictures were ripped off the walls. There was mold actively blowing out of the vent. One bed was unusable as the position of the vent blew mold directly in your face. The balconies were so rusted they looked like the building should be condemned. I did not feel safe to walk out on them. Honestly I have stayed in nicer rooms that cost $49 a night and not $300+fees. No self parking, only valet but you can park on the street and walk. With the mandatory resort fees you receive two "free" drinks at the bar. My husband drank one and within minutes was vomiting. We will never stay here again.

Wonderful place to stay for the weekend of our wedding. Thank you for the chocolate, cookies treats and free drinks. Nice place for morning walks.

Upon arrival we were assisted by a desk clerk who we had difficulty understanding as she has a heavy oriental accent. ( returned later in the day to get a clearer understanding of the room and daily rates.
Although we didn’t report it, there were these weird looking roaches (?) in the bathroom, on desk top and 1 on my bed. Photos attached. We didn’t report it because our friends had no problem in their room and we wanted to be close to their room. When we checked in we were told the hotel was totally booked and we may not be able to even be on the same floor.

We had an amazing time from the moment we called to see if we could get an early check-in and got the blessing from Megan who gave us the go ahead to come on in as they already a room ready for us. We had a corner oceanfront room and - even on the stormy Rainy day - it was just so wonderful to sit out on the balcony enjoying the view. We were so relaxed and it was just a dream getaway. We definitely intend to stay at The Grand Naniloa anytime we stay in Hilo in the future.

This was my second time staying at the Grand Naniloa Hotel and it was better than the first time (thought the first time was great too!). Front Desk Associate Aisha was very nice and kind to me. I mentioned in passing I was there for the Honoka`a Renaissance Festival, but unfortunately traveling solo since my spouse was currently deployed. She was nice enough to go ABC (Above and Beyond the Call) to accommodate my (impromptu) room preference request.
PM Bartenders "Great" Scott and Robert - my first night there, I made friends at the bar with a gaggle of people (we were kind of loud and cracking jokes) but "Great" Scott and Robert were so friendly, provided great service and made us all feel like friends at the end of the night.
For being a solo traveler, I did not feel alone. Mahalo!

From valet through check-in, the customer service is beyond amazing. Unfortunately, my great deal was in a wing yet to be rehabbed. The huge gaps around the door and its frame was amazing - a nightlight and a major fire hazard in one.

This hotel is absolutely awful I have no idea why Hilton wants to add their name to this disgusting property. I think Paris should tour this property im sure she would be thoroughly disgusted. Its old dirty definitely not a 4 star as they represent I would barely give it 2 stars. Stay away!

Property is undergoing much needed renovation. But overall the service is good.

We arrived a little early for check in, our room wasn't ready (which to be fair we knew this may be the case). By the time it WAS ready it was almost an hr past check in time. Upon getting to the room, we got hot in tbe face with what can only be described at horrific body odor of persons morally opposed to bathing (perhaps this was the check in delay?). Once the room aired out it was pleasant and was the beautiful ocean view we requested. The room did have small cockroaches that seemed to go wild at night. The staff addressed this as soon as we reported it. Long black hairs on tbe bathroom floor and on the pillow cases that are not mine (im blonde) was a little unnerving. On site restaurant was good and staff were accommodating. Free daily drinks is a nice touch (2 from the bar daily, from a specific menu, and a coffee water and juice station available as oftern as you'd like in the lobby) and cookies on arrival was appreciated. Valet parking only at $25 a day, unless you're lucky enough to find street parking which we were. Overall a pleasant trip with great staff, but the cleanliness of the room left a little to be desired.

For an establishment, charging premium prices, you’d expect some level of upkeep. But no, it seems to have taken vintage to a new level of neglect. The rooms are outdated to say the least. Old carpets, and furniture that looks like it’s been scavenge from a yard sale complete with stains. The only good thing I can say is the front desk staff was friendly.

Not impressed. Have spent years of travel to foreign countries and never experienced bed-bugs in my life. Welcome to Hilo Hilton bed-bug hotel. Staff was great and gracious and accommodating but the hotel needs serious upgrade and renovation. Hopefully as a Hilton Honors Member they will read this review and take it to heart. Aloha

We stayed at this hotel as a part of our trip to Hawaii. It is close to the airport which was a huge plus after a long day of travel. The ground is beautiful and well kept. A restaurant is on site and the food and service was really good. I loved my room and the view. Bed was very comfortable and room is spacious. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

Very disappointed for what we saw on the internet. The building and especially the rooms need updating. Our room which was 436, corner room was like staying in a hotel on the over side of the railroad tracks. Rusty chrome, cracks in the tile in the bathroom, we were even scared to go out on our wrap around deck, paint peeling off, cracks in the cement, railing was in awful shape. The bathroom sink had so many cracks in it, we were afraid to touch it as it would come apart. The crack in the room door gave so much light in that we almost didn’t have to turn on the light switch.

It was amazing. The staff was excellent. Definitely worth coming back to.

Overall the hotel was amazing! Staff was welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The location on the bay was gorgeous! The two structures on each side of the hotel were rundown, condemned and caused concern for safety

It was our first time to Hilo, HI. We wanted a nice place to relax. This was the place. The staff, food and drinks at the hotel were great. We had a beautiful ocean front room. They even had a wonderful live Hawaiian band that played music in the bar area in the evenings.

Great place to post up and have fast drivable access to Hilo. The on-site restaurant is good and the beds are comfortable

I was debating on how many stars to give. It definitely doesn’t deserve 5 stars. The place is worn down even though they keep the outside looking nice. They have a nice gift shop. They have good food. They also offer rentals for things like kayaks and snorkels. My problem is it said it was pet friendly and they charge you a fee for a pet friendly room. They charge a $250 nonrefundable deposit on top of that. They charge $25 for vallet parking. Charge for various other things that typically are included with a room. The rooms are definitely outdated so it doesn’t feel clean even though it is. The area around the hotel seems to have a lot of sketchy people. If you are a smoker there is only one area and you have to stand in the direct sun. The workers are very nice. It’s not worth the cost.

All parking spots assigned as valet, leaving guests no option but to valet. Staff was unfriendly, I requested late checkout and found a staff member in my room as I came back. The staff did not even acknowledge me and just stormed out of the room.

Pool was to small.

Bathroom was dirty. It had hairs on the floor. The building is run down but the staff was awesome and the location was beautiful. It is valet parking only on the property which gets very expensive if you come and go a lot.
The fire alarm was set off at 615am and we had to evacuate. It was a false alarm but an elderly woman fell down the stairs during the evacuation and needed an ambulance.
For $450 a night, I expected a bit more upkeep and cleaning.

Swam with 4 Ohu (sea turtles) at dock in am w high tide, was incredible and water very safe w little current. You can float for days and dont forget to dive off the walkway to right of dock, just walk carefully across rocks as they can be very slippery when wet. Aloha!

The hotel had mechanical issues with its water pressure booster pump making the room uninhabitable due to noise. It sounded like a jackhammer next door, waking us up. The hotel pretended the problem did not exist. We showed them a video. And then they told us it would be fixed by the next evening. It was not. When we insisted they switch our rooms, they downgraded us from a full oceanfront with lanai to partial oceanfront without a lanai. The “compensation” they provided did not cover the price difference between the rooms classes.

The hotel facility is good, fresh guava juice, coffee & tea in the lobby which is very convenient. The hotel provide good activities (snorkeling gear, golfing, etc.)
The room is not that remarkable, a little small, so harder to organize things.

This hotel is awesome. I'm there for some quiet time for myself and I love to run in the morning. This hotel is perfect for a city woman like me to enjoy without any complaints. The staff is friendly and amazing.

It is a beautiful property with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean bay. The grounds were landscaped beautifully and plenty of seating areas for views of the harbor. We had a balcony that overlooked the grounds, harbor and city! We loved it! Our favorite hotel we’ve ever stayed in!

Stayed in Jr Suite for 7 nights. The view from guest room was amazing and we enjoyed our stay in Hilo. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. This historic hotel was nicely renovated and felt comfortable. The only weak point was the slow elevator.

Beautiful property great pool, not heated no jacuzzi. Beautiful beach, it is swimmable but you want to know when and what parts, its alot of coral...but has swimmable parts. Great tide pooling, lots of sting ray at night. I think i stood during a sports event there were many kids, i also had 2 kids. Kids were out till late playing having a great summer my kids made friends with local kids who were there for sports and had a blast. Kid friendly, pet friendly too. We took a shelter dog out for the day and we were able to nap in our own room! Perfect place to explore Hilo side in the middle of everythjng. Rooms are nice. We loved it.
