100+ year old hotel that they have tried to preserve close to it’s original character. Obviously it wont have modern features and that’s fine with me. I only gave this three stars not because of the age but because of the hardness of the bed and issues with the cooling/fan. Cooling issues were resolved quickly (thank you!). Bed hardness was not (until I could get back to my chiropractor). The breakfast was very nice (European), but it was the same every day. Some variety would be nice. Staff were mostly friendly and accommodating.

Great service friendly staff and a great location for a nights stay. Charming art deco hotel, a little tired but very original. I would stay again. Internet seemed to only work in the lobby.

First of all I knew from previous reviews the hotel was showing its age but my view was it had alot of charisma and charm. It also checked all the boxes for me on being convienently located, clean, quiet, and comfortable. Everything in my room functioned fine and my bed was comfortable. The breakfast provided was a wonderful way to start the day. I would not hesitate to stay again.

Excellent location! Very nice staff.

We loved this historic hotel. Beautiful balcony and nice AC. People at the front desk were not very friendly.

We enjoyed the old world charm of this property and the location is amazing , right on the river with many options for food and culture right outside the doors.

Pretty hotel in Coimbra. The lobby and dining room are quite beautiful and the room was good and very clean.
2.5
Great location, great place, lovely helpful staff. Very clean. Nothing to complain about here.

Great location but hotel is run down and could do with updating. No coffee making facilities in the rooms and shower temperature is hit and miss. When we arrived staff were very rude and spoke to us like something she had just stood on.

This was an older hotel, but super convenient. Good value for the price.

Great stay in a hotel with lots of character! It is situated in a perfect location: walkable distance to iconos, restaurantes. Staff very helpful! Room had a great view to the river. Street a little noisy but the view was marvelous! Bed comfy. Good breakfast! I would stay in again!

A grand old dame of a honey era, if those walls could talk. Must have been something in its time. If you are looking for all the things a modern hotel offers you might want to pass. We really enjoyed the historical features of this art deco property. The staff were simply amazing, so friendly and accommodating. We would stay there again.

I was very pleased to stay in this historic art deco architecture hotel built in 1924. The original yet well kept finishes were part of the enjoyment.
The hotel shows its age, but that age gives the Astoria its warm character

I had read reviews that this hotel was tired, but it is really tired. Carpets in the bedroom could have been much cleaner. It has the bones to be a grand dam, but it just isn’t. Sad to say, I would not return . People are nice and I feel for them and their jobs, but the owners are not reinvesting.

This hotel is historic and charming. The staff are professional and friendly as well as helpful. The rooms are comfortable, although they are building a Metro extension right out front, so eventually it'll be noisy!

It’s a nostalgic hotel with a lot of antique furniture set in a mood of 1930s. Location is super convenient. We have the river view which is so beautiful. Thr room is spacious and with a big balcony. Staff is friendly and super efficient. They provide a lot of useful tourist information and dining options. Breakfast is sumptuous and delicious too!

This hotel is centrally located and could not be more convenient. Its decor is a bit dated, but the rooms were very comfortable, and it seemed fairly quiet at night.

Nice hotel, a bit run down. Breakfast ok.
Internet did not work well at all - this is what really disappointed me. I had to work and was dependant on the network - i had to go to a cafe instead. Really disappointing. Really good location and easy to find parking across the bridge.

The hotel needs serious updating, painting, carpet replacement. The furniture had seen better days.....
However, the charm was visible, the staff was excellent, and very helpful, and the room was very clean. Beds were comfortable and the linens were nice.
The hotel is in an excellent location, and we had a view of the river from our room.
The breakfast was nice, with eggs, meats, fruit, yogurt, pastries, and coffee and juices.
No wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby.

Tired interior still full of character. Would definitely stay again. Breakfast was excellent. Parking requires a little walking, but there is a very easy loading area by front door. Great great location by main walking area. Plenty of restaurants and small supermarket within a block.

A well maintained classic hotel

Loved the historic value of all the rooms lobby.we could visualize people 100 yrs ago dancing in the ballroom, where you now have a great breakfast.we went back in time staying in this grand hotel.so we did not care that the bed was hard...it was a fabulous visual wonder.and the front desk staff.so very very nice and efficent, and around the corner great squares for walking and eating and shopping..

I'm sure this hotel was very nice back in the day but it past it's prime. This hotel needs a lot of work to bring it back to a passable standard. The staff were nice and the breakfast was good. The location was wonderful.
The room was very dated from the actual key to open the door to the worn out carpeting. The bed was not comfortable and there were only 2 pillows.
Would not recommend.

Mattresses are far too firm to be restfull.

Great location, very friendly and helpful staff and lots of options in breakfast buffet. It is dated, has beautiful common areas but needs either the carpet removed or upgraded.

We cannot recommend Hotel Astoria, due to the front desk staff and management. We arrived at around 2:00 on a very hot afternoon. The only thing cool in the lobby was the attitude of the desk clerk, who without friendliness denied us an option of early check-in (which was at 3:00 - other hotels have allowed it). We went back into the heat and returned at 3:00. The same clerk gave us our key without welcome. The room was hot, and the air conditioning didn't work. When we spoke with the desk clerk, she without apology or concern told us the a/c had broken the day before, and wouldn't be fixed until at least the following day. In other words, she knew when sending us to our room that it had no a/c, but hadn't bothered to tell us. We requested another room, and she told us with indifference that there were no other rooms. We asked to speak to the manager, who was as uncaring and unhelpful as the clerk, repeating more than once without apology that the hotel was fully booked. When I kept insisting that hotels almost always have something in reserve, she finally grudgingly admitted that they did have one single room available with working a/c. Indeed they did, and we took it.
The staff's utter lack of kindness, helpfulness, and concern was the worst we've experienced in decades of travel. All our other Portugal lodgings had lovely staff whose kindness and help enriched our stays. The Astoria, a sweet, shabby old beauty of a hotel, deserves better staff and so do her customers.

View from room window of river was nice. Interesting antique ambiance.

It was like going back to the 2920’s, what a great property full of nostalgia and old world charm. The only negative was that parking was a bit of an issue as we had to park across the river..

The Hotel was old and creepy... But it was clean and Breakfast was good. The location is great very central and close to mnay things.

Hotel room smelled old. Carpet was old and stained Breakfast was below par for compared to all our other stays in Portugal.

Bathroom was ok but not the best. Power outlets are scarce, you need to have your own multi outlet adapter.

We had a nice time in this city. This hotel is not far from the train station and is very close to food, shopping and the river.
3.0
A tired hotel but great location and so it was perfect for our needs but no kettle in our room or hot drink facilities in the lobby which felt a bit odd in this day and age.

Near the river. Helpful staff. Older attractive hotel. Good breakfast.

No internet service even in the lobby.
There’s a sealed door next to my bed, on the other side is the bathroom of the room next door; one hears all businesses that go on in there.
Breakfast was poor; ham tasted rancid; fruits on display all rotted; no electric kettle in the room, nor are they available in the lobby; shampoos and shower gel came in small plastic bags that need scissors or teeth to rip open; lift was not working the two days we were there; the front desk does not command good enough English.

Overall, this hotel is very good. The location is great. It’s a beautiful old hotel. The only thing they need to fix is their Wi-Fi. Having breakfast available was also nice. overall a great experience.

Excellent location, a hotel with its own charm and character, very good breakfast buffet. Highly recommend this hotel.
