WOW. This hotel blew our expectations and anticipations out of the water. From the first interaction, they, especially Catarina, were incredibly friendly, helpful and helped us settle right in to Coimbra. Then there's the property itself. The original stone walls and arch ways, the VIEWS and the furnishings are just breathtaking. Out of all the places we stayed in Portugal during our 10 day trip, this was the location we wished we could go back to most. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The rooms were awesome, with arches and low ceilings but really nice. Comfortable beds and breakfast delivered to your room were great. Close to most major attractions and restaraunts.

The room was clean and we had a great view of the city. The breakfast was good and the champagne and cake at check in was a nice added bonus. The walk up to the hotel was steep so best to take an overnight bag and leave everything else back in the car.

Most amazing rooms. I had the 1 bedroom room with hottub. So cute and comfy. My friends had the spa suite. Amazing!! Welcome gifts and goodbye gifts. The breakfast each morning delivered in a basket and more food than you need. Presentation was on point. Very clean. My only concern was rhe noise aa my room faced the roadside so you heard everyone walking by. Hotel was in a center pointe which all cafes and shopping were walkable. The people were amazing and sweet!! Cant wait to stay again next year!!

The staff was incredible! Beautiful view! Parking was touchy but all was great in general!

Quirky, fun place to stay. Evening staff was just great with recommendations. Mention Katarina’s name at Sette! Details make this place very special. Breakfast has something for everyone - and lots of it! …and a welcome drink and a little present when you leave. What a lovely experience!

Nice property.

Our room was incredible, as was the breakfast that was delivered to our room each morning. It’s worth noting the hotel is at the top of a hill, there is an elevator that you can take to the top.

Don't hesitate -- book here! After a delayed, somewhat frantic rerouted journey from Porto due to a strike, walking into Solar Antigo was like a ray of sunshine. We were tired and a bit deflated only to be greated (hours before check-in) by friendly staff with drinks and warm sweet bread. The room was ideal, comfortable, beautiful, with everything we needed including plenty of hot water, a mini-frig and a large comfortable bed (which my daughter immediately fell asleep in). Refreshed we wandered just a few blocks over to enjoy the university, Biblioteca Joanina & the old town. It was pouring but we didn't mind after such a wonderful check-in experience (and our rainjackets!). The location while a bit tricky to find (we came from the bus station via Bolt and our driver asked for directions from some very helpful university students) is ideal for exploring. In the age of self-catering apts (which we use frequently) Solar Antigo is a reminder of what that often causes you to miss -- interaction with locals and the value of service. Stay at Solar Antigo!

Staff was amazing!!! Arriving by car was a bit of a challenge but our stay was amazing!!! Loved the welcome champagne and cake, the in room hot tub, and delightful breakfast basket delivered to room. It was a five minute walk to the university and Machado museum and I highly recommend both!!!

Beautiful room, very friendly and helpful staff . Excellent breakfast brought to our room. Only downside is it’s hard to find.

Great location for a great price. Be warned the street is bit steep and narrow and on a hill, however an Uber will make it happen if you have a lot of luggage. Wouldnt call this a 4 star. Would rate it more a 3 star. Our room was a bit small but manageable. Great and friendly service

It was really cute and a lot of space for the cost. Beds were comfy, free espresso, beer, and tea in the room. It’s within walking distance of the funicular, so even though this hotel is near the top of the hill by the university, you can get up from the Main Street pretty easily and cheaply. The spiral stairs are a bit nervous to navigate. The Wi-Fi unfortunately only worked on the ground floor.

Great hotel on a side street in Coimbra which is a beautiful small city with historic University . Cute room with 2 stories that we had and a circular staircase going from living room /hot tub area to bedroom. Lovely helpful staff. It's a little hard to find as exterior signs are not allowed in this area so you have to have the house number for the registration.

The service was amazing and the rooms so unique. We were greeted with cake and wine. They were extremely accommodating and gave us a whole house with a Jacuzzi instead of a room because it was open. Only downside is that it is always a hike to get there on foot, but then again that is all of Coimbra.

Our room was very clean and large. The staff worked so hard everyday to make it a geat experience. We didn't realize the driving and parking situation in advance. The rooms are located on a very narrow steep hill. I'm not a stunt driver, so we parked in a lot a few streets below and took an elevator up. The views are amazing. Its a great place to stay!

The hotel was very clean. Our room was on the sixth floor and no elevator. This was fine except for getting our luggage to and from the room. Parking for rental car was difficult in this part of town. It was also very near the University so it was loud at night.

The service was excellent. The staff recommendations for restaurants were excellent. The room was great with great views and a great spa/hot tub. Loved the breakfast brought to our room. It was very good. The location is very close to Coinbra University. Dining was close. Shopping was reasonably close but coming back was steep uphill, but not a problem for us. I recommend parking at public parking by the River and take an Uber to the hotel. The cost was minimal. Parking by the hotel was limited and challenging for people not comfortable with narrow one way streets with a steep incline. I highly recommend this hotel. It was unusual but fun.

Room was very small and we had to take a steep stair to get to the bedroom part of the room.

Property is located in the old part of the city which can be charming. However, it is near the university and the students are young people who party very loud, particularly on Tuesday nights and Thursday nights when they don’t have class the next day.

I loved this rustic, historic place to stay in Coimbra. Catarina was very friendly and helpful. She speaks perfect English and offered wonderful recommendations to restaurants and monuments. I absolutely loved the bed and bay window with a beautiful view overlooking the city. They offered a free welcome Champaign drink and lovely breakfast in bed delivered to the room. I had a great experience but this type of hotel is not for everybody as it is a centuries old building, part of the old castle. The bathroom is very narrow and it is a studio so the shower is in the middle of the room. I thought the bed was romantic, tucked in a nook and very comfortable.

Room clean, staff friendly.
Not suitable for seniors or larger people.
The narrow circular stairs in the room to reach the bedroom upstairs were treacherous. I'm recovering from foot surgery and wouldn't have chosen this hotel if I had known. There is nowhere to hang clothes, no desk, and many people wouldn't fit in the washroom. It's a bit dingy being in a narrow street.
I booked three nights and only stayed one. Was refused a refund for the two or even one night.

Coimbra is an amazing city to visit. Be forewarned that this facility is up a steep hill on small, one-way, cobbled streets that are a maze around the university and cathedral at the top of the hill. If you miss the turn up the hill, it can take you an additional hour to return to the same location. Parking for the hotel is further up the hill in the parking lot of the new Cathedral. We were not informed about this and walked up the hill to the hotel to ask about parking before we drove up with out bags. We were provided with Cava and cake. The sweet cake doesn't go with the Cava. Our unit was across the road. One enters a narrow door to see a giant jacussi and tiny metal spiral staircase to two rooms. The cold and dark, small lower level smelt of bleach and sweaty feet. Our room was on the next level and quite difficult to enter with suitcases on a human wide spiral staircase. The Madam Bovary Boudoire and bed takes up 90% of the space. A small shelf at the foot of the bed makes it difficult to pass. The shower and toilet are crammed together and require odd maneuvers to use either one. The secondary pillows and bed cover didn't appear to be clean. The toilet and shower were mouldy. I would not recommend staying here.

The staff were so friendly and helpful
The room was amazing! Really cool
Layout. Hot tub was great. Breakfast served to the room was wonderful!!
Spiral staircase to the bedroom could be tough for some folks , added to the charm

Terrible parking. Narrow streets to get to hotel. Had to park far away and walk up a steep hill with our s Room and bathroom was very small. Spiral staircase to bedroom was so narrow we left our suitcase downstairs and had to walk up and down the stairs with our clothes and toiletries to access the bathroom. Furniture was tacky and outdated. Don’t recommend this hotel to anyone older than 30. Don’t stay here if you have mobility issues. Breakfast basket that was served was good. Staff was friendly and nice.

This hotel is located on the almost top of the hill by Coimbra University. The staff were amazing. The room was so charming. Free breakfast was delivered to the room at requested time. Welcome drink (sparkling wine or OJ). Free water bottles, beers and box juices in the room. There is not big sing of the hotel hanging from the building, so you need to pay attention to find the door for the reception. I highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed in suite 66 and it was super romantic, very cool place to stay. Check in was super easy once I found the right door! It’s 15 sometimes the door is closed so hard to tell. Welcome cocktail and snack are amazing, I’m suite water, drinks all free make this place just an absolute gem. Highly recommend.

It is right next to the university so I could walk. I was able to find parking nearby. Parking requires coins if you don’t use their parking app or MBWay. It is free at night.
The room is just gorgeous, perfectly decorated for Valentine’s 😄 stone walls, spacious shower, a little window for the city lights and a niche to snuggle. Very cozy and elegant space.
The best part is the service! Upon arrival I was offered sparkling wine and cheese. And next morning a beautiful basket of breakfast was delivered to my room on time. I couldn’t finish all the foods myself. The stay was a highlight during my trip. I would highly recommend!

Unique cute little hotel. Our room was in a separate house. The jacuzzi tub is huge & kind of a waste of space. Would be better off to just have a couch & some seating. Metal circular stairs to get to bedroom. If you have mobility issues not the place for you. Breakfast in basket to room was great. Also beer & sparkling wine at check in was appreciated. All in all I would recommend if you want a clean stay in a budget boutique like hotel for a couple of nights.

Hotel very small, but rooms beautiful. Fabulous breakfast delivered to room at your time request. SKINNY cave for toilet, tough for us plus size Americans!! No dinner available, but plenty of options close by if I wanted to venture out. Staff was A . Will go again.

A quirky, well-located, but difficult to find, little hotel with some nice touches.

It seemed like a good idea to stay in this over the top quirky hotel n the old city. It was a fascina experience but our room was a small two story house in the old city. It had a spiral staircase and not much space to put things. Everything was sweated in. The circular jacuzzi took up most of downstairs. There were plumbing issues which they were resolving.
It was a great experience but not exactly convenient. I guess you have to fire go convenience for the experience.

The room furnishings are quite unique - very palace-like opulent. Breakfast was included and it was awesome. It was very nice to get a welcome drink. Location is very close to the university. Parking is not available at the hotel site. We had to park in one of the university's parking lots. Room was somewhat claustrophobic, tiny bedroom and a huge jacuzzi under the bedroom. We would rather have a decent table instead.
