The reception desk was not occupied, but friendly staff once we could locate yhem. Rooms were not ready and in need of a deep clean, no milk or soap in our room. Water is undrinkable. The facility is really very tired.

great location for travelers from Wellington to Auckland catching the Craters of the Moon and the Orakei geyser and lady Knox Geiser Peaceful location avoiding 'hustle bustle' commercial Lake Taupo vibe, to each its own preference...to continue for Redwood forrest walk and bike ...further north

This was an expensively appointed hotel when built but it is starting to tire. Still lovely. But please please clean the windows, inside and out; a simple thing that will just lift the whole experience. Breakfast was excellent and evening dining is good.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The hotel is a little jaded now but you can still see its former splendour. I thought it was wonderful inspite of its tired facilities. The staff were super helpful and the breakfast is good. I would stay here again.

A good place to stay at a very reasonable price. Room was comfortable but a little dated. Screen between bathroom and bedroom was faulty and difficult to close or open. Limited menu options and food was average, but having a restaurant on site was handy as it saved a 10min drive into Rotorua

Great value for money, staff were friendly and helpful, room clean and comfortable. Food was good. The only faults we found were the screen between the bathroom and bedroom was in poor condition and didn’t operate properly and the washing machines in the laundry hadn’t been cleaned properly.

Old world charm. A little water damage in ceiling by back wall. Gorgeous view of lake from room. Breakfast was good. Parking lot needs to be redone. Tennis courts need upkeep.

We had a wonderful stay here! Older facilities but very comfortable and cosy. Parking was a bit challenging as the car parks are quite small for all the bigger vehicles but made it work. Wonderful service! The buffet breakfast was perfect and set us up well for the day. A beautiful place to stay, it was nice to be a little bit out of the city of Rotorua.

Our original rooms were unavailable due to a water leak, however the manager went above and beyond to accommodate our group of 7 adults. All of the staff were absolutely lovely and the room was perfect. Thanks team! Would definitely stay again.

The property was clean, though quite rundown and not indicative of the pictures or description. The staff gave limited service and room was not prepared for arrival. They did not have adequate staffing for the peak period and cited more than once that we would have to wait for service due to being at capacity. Whilst the property was clearly quite stunning when originally built, it is lacking now.

Lovely spot. Very comfortable room. Staff were lovely. Water wasn’t real hot. Not many food places around but hamburgers and chips from side store at the mini market were the best we have had for ages.3 minute walk down the road. Great place to stay to visit Okere falls.

First let me start by saying the staff at VR Resort in Rotorua was amazing, but the facilities are in dire need of cleaning and maintenance. At one point in time I could see this was a pristine hotel, but as we walked into our room the drapes had mold, the comforter had bleach stains, the closet door handle came off and the lamp broke in half as we went to turn it on. We decided to go to the sauna and the ceiling had white mold growing. The more we looked around the more we noticed minor fixes that would have improved the visual representation that the facilities were cared for. In addition, cleanliness is a factor, having garbage left in the hallways is not a good representation and guest laundry areas have to be cleaned if they are opened to guest.

This property is clearly older and while that is not necessarily a problem, there is some maintenance that needs to be addressed. There was very noticeable water damage to the sealing of the shower and the sink faucet was loose enough to move around whenever you touch it even lightly. The hot water kettle kept turning off (which is fine if you keep turning it back on) but it had a smell that I wasn’t a fan of. The staff was kind and helpful when we saw them but this is a very large building (apparently part time-share) and only spoke to a couple of people the two days we were there. Overall, the beds were soft, the water pressure was good, and the room was okay for the price. If it were a little closer to the city or the property was in a little better condition it would have been solid.

VR Rotorua is a great resort. It may be an old building however the rooms are spacious and the beds are comfy! I would definitely stay at this property again without hesitation

Overall value for money was ok. We would stay there again. It was clean but the bathroom was old and tired and needed a deep surface clean/scrub. I'm not sure it really meets its 4 star rating. The taps in the bathroom and the shower did not have hot and cold identifiers on the them. The plug didn't have a centre piece for pulling it out of the plug hole. We had to hunt through every cupboard to find things. Nothing was labelled - and there were no instructions about where things were. The bed, carpet and curtains were fresh and new looking. The bed was very comfortable and temperature control easy with the heat pump. The wine glasses were not matching ( a small detail I know - but its not what you would expect in a 4 star rated hotel). TV was excellent and had a good range of channels, Wifi was excellent and there was ample extra lighting and charger/usb plugs. Check in and out was easy. Staff were pleasant enough. The grounds look a bit tired but coming in to winter that isn't surprising.

Upon entering the reception area, there is an unpleasant odor reminiscent of a toilet drain, which unfortunately permeates the entire hallway. While the room smells marginally better, it seems evident that air fresheners have been heavily relied upon to mask the underlying scent. The cleanliness standards are mediocre at best, hardly indicative of a four-star establishment. I would rate it as a three-star accommodation. Disappointingly, there was no milk provided in the fridge for coffee. The breakfast offerings are basic,it worth $15 per person. Regrettably, I do not intend to return.
