Bathrooms with hair from previous guest. The staff decided not to serve breakfast on day of arrival. They said they would have rolls and coffee from 7:00 am to 10 am. The staff n charge showed up at 7:15 both days of my stay with no sense of urgency to get coffee and rolls out! Valet was also late…

The check-in experience was fine. The hotel was as expected for an older “boutique” hotel. The experience the morning of departure and for the following 72 hours (still ongoing) has been nothing short of horrible. I began itching while in bed at the Palihouse from 2 am until 6 am when I finally got up and showered - still no relief. The evening after my departure I was diagnosed with a chewing louse (lice) infestation. My doctor has been treating me with multiple insecticides but I’m still in significant discomfort and isolated to a room in my home to prevent spreading it to my family and contaminating my home. I called the Palihouse Hotel the day after my diagnosis on Saturday 09/07 and asked for a manager but was told “he is out but you can call back on Monday”. … this was after sharing the diagnosis. My response was, “How about I give you my number and the manager calls me? I was in room 112 and want to know what you can do to make this right?” - Still no call… I would think that a public health concern at the hotel you are managing would warrant a call, even on a weekend.

Lobby and grounds are beautiful but hotel is a little quirky. No liquor license if you want a drink at the hotel, and minimal staffing. Lots of character throughout - our room had a full kitchen, breakfast nook, walk-in closet and ante room for make-up/dressing.

It was a nice room. They need better service in regards to room service (1.5 hr wait for coffee) and coffee bar had very limited hours (need to leave to get water and food).

Property was beautiful, room was a good size and very clean. Decor and overall vibe was nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was great. Easy to walk to bars and restaurants or to the boardwalk/beach. It was a warm night without AC. The room had large windows to open to let in a breeze but this offered little to no privacy. Screens were in disrepair and the neighborhood was a bit noisy at night, but overall experience was good. Glad we tried it out but not sure it’s worth the price. We were charged for valet parking and the vehicle was too large for the garage so we ending up paying the parking fee for the valet to leave the vehicle parked on the street near the hotel. Had we known, we would have found a spot on our own and saved the $50.

Love the Palihouse brand.

This hotel is okay, but for the price I was pretty underwhelmed. You get the charm of an older property, but that comes with downsides like old plumbing, thin walls, noisy stairs and single paned windows. If you like peace and quiet I don't recommend. I also think the hotel could have done more to add luxury. The bed felt old, there were chips in the tub glaze making it uncomfortable to stand in and there were barely any outlets in the bedroom making it hard to charge your phone while sleeping.
Staff was kind and helpful. They were understaffed during my stay so I believe my room was ready a little late, but not much. They were very apologetic about it.
Overall just screamed bad management who only cares about surface appearances and not the actual experience of their guests. I would not book again.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Feels very “old Hollywood”. Does not have a bar or real restaurant- small lunch and breakfast menu.

Clean and comfortable with character. Was a great and quiet option just off the main area. Felt very safe and in the neighborhoods instead in the commercial areas. Great choice!

We loved this historic property, the architectural details, outdoor spaces, interior design and the exceptional staff.

I love the personability of the Palihouse. The rooms are tasteful and plush, no“cookie cutter” decor, and the lobby is like a giant living/dining room. If you’re looking for a scene this wouldn’t be for you, if you’re looking for a tasteful, cozy home-away-from-home establishment in a great location stay here.

Beautiful vintage property, uniquely stylized and updated while keeping a really special timeless appeal. My new oasis in LA!

Nice place, no one was at front desk for good 10 minutes though .

One of the most unique and special hotels we have ever experienced! The architecture and design of this hotel is stunning and so wonderfully curated, unlike anywhere we’ve ever stayed before. Our room was beautiful and felt very private. Upon checking in, the staff was immediately so kind and welcoming, and we had nothing but positive experiences with them throughout our stay. Cannot recommend Palihouse enough — we never wanted to leave!

Beautiful hotel! However, I would not recommend having breakfast there. It was up on one waitress to serve food to guests in the lobby, outdoors and room service! She did her best running with the tablets to the elevator to serve guests food in their rooms and next, one of the guests in the lobby got the breakfast. We waited for a long time and then, she didn’t bring what I had ordered. Coffee was long cold before we both had our breakfast finally. Checking out was another problem! The printer wasn’t working so the front desk clerk tried to email me the receipt. However LTE wasn’t working on my phone but she didn’t know their WiFi password, imagine! She ordered a technician to come forward to help her out. It took us forever to check out. At such a hotel I expect they know their business and have enough staff to serve breakfast. I felt sorry for one overwhelmed waitress.

This hotel is a true gem. Every detail was chosen with care and beautifully incorporated to fit the aesthetic of this historical building. It’s very cozy, feels lived in and sort of magical. The room was spacious and our bed was very comfortable. However, it’s really the staff at this property that made our stay special. Everyone was very kind and went above and beyond to attend to our needs. We will definitely be back!!

This is an amazing hotel walking distance to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. The feel of the hotel makes you feel you're in a different country. The staff is incredible and the service at the lobby is first class.

The uniqueness and classic beauty of the property exude a European charm reminiscent of traditional Mediterranean or Spanish architecture, surrounded by a beautiful garden. Upon entering the lobby, you are greeted by a beautiful light and a fireplace adding to the ambiance. Even if your visit is for business, the hotel steers away from the typical corporate atmosphere, providing a relaxing environment with excellent service from the staff, including exceptional servers and housekeepers like Angelica and Nancy. While I didn't give a five-star rating for the condition of the property due to its age compared to newer hotels, the character and charm of the hotel more than compensate for it.

Property better maintained than expected - like a private villa and room was spacious with a little kitchen.

This is a great space. I was upgraded to a wonderful suite. The staff was very helpful.
My one smallish issue is that they do not have a bar. I was visiting my daughter and some of her college friends and we wanted to grab a cocktail after dinner. It would have been great to invite them all back to my hotel hut instead we had to go to a busy bar at another hotel.

An amazing property - unique, interesting, comfortable. A couple blocks from the beach, a couple blocks from 3rd street promenade. Perfect for a weekend away in Santa Monica.

Love the hotel but they need to add modern conveniences to rooms; brighter lighting, usb ports, outlets on nightstands. Water pressure was weak.

My husband and I stayed at Palihouse for a work trip and absolutely loved the friendliness of the staff! The food was delicious too. We had a breakfast burrito that was worth every penny. They also serve cookies in the afternoon and I think I will dream about them, they were so good. The only improvements would've been that I wish they had more bikes available. They were all booked by 9 am. The valet also wasn't the most helpful with bags when we left. He just stood by the driver side while we were juggling all our stuff. I don't mind that but if a tip is expected, I'd hope for a little more assistance.

Quick trip to Santa Monica, I had lived in Santa Monica for 20 years and was always interested in the old embassy hotel. It was a delight. I will return.

Stay was amazing but you need to let guests have a smoking area on property. Thank you.

Beautiful old building in great location. Daytime weekend staff and management outstanding and very friendly. Night staff horrible, undertrained, rude. I have never experienced such ego and demeaning behavior. I felt unsafe and wasn’t given the room I booked. I never heard back from GM that the behavior I experienced was unacceptable or that anything was being done about it. Luckily the day team made up for it. No local parking options and no valet after ten and the staff can’t assist with other parking options in area- would not recommend arriving after ten…

Hidden gem! We loved the Palihouse. The room was spacious and comfortable. The common areas were great! We were so happy to have found it. Quite neighborhood. Great stop for a couple on a weekend getaway!

The staff was very unavailable, hard to get in touch with them. The parking situation is weird, they told me they would park my car out front because I had an early morning check out, but I had to pick up my own car in an alleyway while it was still dark (unsafe).
