This was our first stop in Sri Lanka and it was magical. Beautiful grounds, wonderful staff, lovely food. We had an overwater room that was a serene place to end our busy days. Our butler Ravi and our guide Yesitha were standouts but the entire staff was amazing. We had great spa treatment as well. We highly recommend this location in the Cultural Triangle...and Sri Lanka itself is a must visit!

Beautiful, one of the most pleasant and peaceful accommodations I’ve ever stayed in.

Had a fantastic time at the Jetwing Vil Uyana, the accommodation was excellent and the staff could not have done more for us. The hotel is in a secluded location, in a managed jungle setting with abundant wildlife and is within easy reach by taxi of Dambulla and Sigiriya. The food was excellent and served in a picturesque dining area overlooking the lake. We had an extremely relaxing three nights and would thoroughly recommend the hotel to others.

No written review can do justice to the wonderful time we spent here. We stayed in a forest dwelling with pool, and it exceeded our already high expectations. The downstairs open bathroom was large and amazing. The bedroom was very spacious, comfortable and had all the facilities we could want, including coffee machine and safe. Two balconies, and a large picture window overlooked our private pool, trees and the lake beyond. Our housekeeper was great and produced some wonderful towel sculptures and bed decorations each night. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious and plentiful. Service at the restaurant and bar was quietly efficient and friendly. We had a couple’s 90 minute massage: I had a Balinese massage whereas my wife had a combination of 4 different types. These were probably the best massages we have had. Our first evening we went with Thisara the naturalist to look for Slender Loris and saw four - very good sightings and amazing to watch. The next morning we went on a birding walk with the other naturalist Yesitha which was also excellent, and on the way back we saw and watched a troop of Grey Langurs. Our final afternoon we went on a safari with Yesitha around Hurulu Eco Park. Fantastic close sightings of elephants as well as more birds. The naturalists were great and the Loris Conservation Project is amazing and deserves support! All the staff were wonderful and friendly and Saman was particularly helpful. We do wish we could have stayed longer!

The lowest category room is about 400 USD but the properties didnt worth the price. The room was quite old and looks dated and phone was out of service. If we dont have the local sim card then we cannot call reception for buggy to pick up.
Staffs were very well attentive and helpful and the dinner was excellent and delicious.
Breakfast was not good , limited to order and charge for the water which quite unacceptable.
This is 4-5 stars hotel that closest to Lion rock so we have no choice but expect more than we have got
If the price is 200-250 USD i would not complain at all

Property is conveniently located for touring nearby cultural sights - Sigiriya (20 minutes by car), Dambulla (20 minutes by car), and Anuradhapura (60 minutes by car). It's also an excellent eco-lodge with endangered wildlife on property. Guests can sign up for a night nature walk with the staff naturalist to spot loris, which we did - a highlight of our 9 day holiday in Sri Lanka. The individual 'hut' style rooms are very spacious and filled with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. The property has an excellent, albeit pricey, restaurant with daily specials. The staff is excellent - warm, friendly, proactive in terms of service orientation. Overall value for what the property offers is high. Our only recommendation would be to "super seal" the glass doors and windows to ensure that nature stays outside of the guest rooms.

It was a slice of paradise. Even though it looked great in photos, it is far more special in real life. Within moments of arriving we saw a crocodile swimming in the lake! There are peacocks wandering about and the place is full of nature. The villas are beautiful and spacious with a great double bath, and plunge pool. We were looked after by Dissas, who made our stay perfect. He was charming and so helpful. He arranged a great eco friendly elephant safari for us. We highly recommend staying at this hotel which is more than a hotel!

We had a beautiful and peaceful stay at this property. The pool is exquisite and the rooms are so cool and beautiful. The wildlife is astounding and it was so tranquil to quietly watch it unfold around us. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well, arranging for us a trip to Lion Rock.

Absolutely loved the wildlife around the hotel, particularly cycling to the local lake around the corner in the morning. Staff fantastic. Lots to do in the area. Only slight negative is that the food, although good, could possibly be improved for this quality of hotel.

Lovely hotel in a gloriously quiet location on the edge of a beautiful lake which the restaurant overlooks, watching the ever changing bird life and resident crocs was fascinating. The attractive villas are very spacious and comfortable and the food was excellent, international and wonderful Sr Lankan currys which they have very kindly given me the recipes for and I cant wait to try. Its within easy reach of Sigiriya, Dambulla and Pidurangala all of which we enjoyed visiting and which helped justify another lovely dinner that night. The annual gathering of elephants in Kaudulla NP was an experience of a lifetime, we must have seen about 200, all ages, mothers with their calves and some heavily pregnant. On a guided night walk we even spotted a rare Slender Loris.

Nice eco friendly unique hotel. Close by to Lion Rock (Sigiriya ) ancient rock fortress. Short ride away from elephant safari where you can see 50+ elephants in herds. Menu choices are limited but the food is excellent. Not unusual to see some wildlife such as jungle fowl on the property.

The resort hotel is beautiful and tranquil. Room is big. Staffs are friendly and helpful . The food in the restaurant is good . Only we missed the tour to see the birds nearby . I will book if I knew earlier . We had hard time to find the entrance of the resort because we arrived around 6:30 pm . Hope they have either the signs or guards to guide our driver .

We had the pleasure of staying at Vil Uyana for 3 nights while exploring the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. After spending the morning climbing Sigiriya Rock or walking around Anuradhapura, Vil Uyana was an oasis of calm where we could relax and enjoy all the bustling wildlife around us. Crocodiles, monkeys, mongoose and a whole array of birds are all there for you to see and enjoy whilst enjoying the luxury villas and amazing food on offer. We would highly recommend anybody to stay here!

The hotel & grounds were wonderful. There was loads of wildlife, including mongeese, monitor lizzards, grey slender loris & a resident crocodile.
The room, restaurant & swimming pool were all excellent.
There were also plenty of places to sit & read outside the room eg a library area.

Sri Lanka offers many surprises. This hotel is one of them and a great place to stay. Great rooms, excellent food and facilities. It is on the more expensive end but worth it. It is also a bit out of the way so you cannot walk to alternate restaurants/cafes but facilities are great. It is very close to Sigiriya Rock so you can climb it in the morning and then return to the hotel and relax in the pool, watching the 'pet' crocodile.

Vil Uyana is an incredible hotel; it's a place where you can access a huge part of what makes Sri Lanka such an extraordinary country. It's built in a restored wetland, so is a bit like staying at the zoo, in the best sense: on the way to breakfast or back from dinner, you see peacocks, langur monkeys, giant water monitor lizards, eagles, bats, civets, frogs, iguanas, lorises. As we left the hotel one day, a wild elephant was right by the roadside, having breakfast. (If you've seen Disney's "Monkey Kingdom", you'll have some sense of the amazing animals; it was filmed at Polonnaruwa, which is close by). The food is good, the public spaces beautiful, the location close to many astonishing ancient sites nearby (as well as several national parks, where you can see elephants by the dozens or hundreds, depending on the season). The staff is warm, courteous, and extraordinarily helpful. There are a few extremely minor bumps because of the remote location -- there is wi-fi everywhere but it is medium-speed, not high-speed (but how do they even manage to have internet access in this wild place? That's a miracle in itself). And during a particularly strong downpour, the power went out twice for two seconds each time. It was barely noticeable. We give this our highest possible recommendation.

gorgeous grounds with plenty of monkeys and peacocks about; impressive large room/villa with comfortable ac and good wifi; caution - bathroom with open toilet (no divider from shower and no formal wall/door from room); very friendly and helpful staff; nice public area (library, lounge, pool) and restaurant with pretty good options. only wish we had stayed for more than one night!

The experience was amazing - being in the hotel was like being in a national wildlife reserve! We saw elephants, crocodiles and lots of birds. The villas with views of the lake or the rice paddy fields were far nicer than the cheaper ones, which could get a bit too dark. Compared to some other outdoor bathrooms this one was okay - only the shower and bath were outside but still if you hate insects, better make sure they give you a room with the bathroom indoors. Food was good too, and the service attentive.

From Los Angeles: Booked this via Expedia for two nights for my brother's honeymoon.
They got the worst experience as they had food poison and ended up in the Hospital at thier honeymoon.
Appearantly one waiter has told my brother that they serve the remaining dishes to other customers.
First night they had a power cut off all of a sudden in a cottage middle of a paddy field and then electricity provided by generators. After the food poison, this so called hotel chain with this class did not have an emergency plan or onsite doctor or any urgent care.
My brother and his wife had to stay in Dambulla hospital( Dambulla hospital doctors and staff were 200% supportive, big thanks for that) on his wedding night due to the ignorance of this hotel management, staff.
OUR FAMILY IS REALLY SAD AND DISSAPOINTED FOR WHAT HAD HAPPEN AS THIS CAUSED HEAVILY FOR THE NEXT DAY HOME COMING OF THE COUPLE, AND AFTER PARTY CELEBRATIONS.
DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR. DO NOT GO THERE.

The hotel stay was v pleasant. The rooms were comfortable. We were in the midst of wilderness .We opted for this holiday to trek into the forest and see the endangered slender loris. However we were told that the naturalist is unavailable as it was the Srilankan New Year time.As the naturalist was unavailable we could not do any other activities like bird watching or trekking.so,Basically there is not much to do around the hotel. The food at the hotel is very average. The breakfast options are limited. The overall choice of menu and quality of food is just average which is what you don't expect as this is supposed to be a high end resort going by the room rates. There are very limited options to eat out so basically we are stuck with what the hotel has to offer. The vegetarian options are also v limited.I feel that good cuisine is a part of a good holiday and Vil Uyana disappointed us.If it is New year and there is a scarcity of staff the management should see that the guests are not affected by that .The staff was v polite and helpful and tried their best to make our stay comfortable.Overall,We felt that the property did not live up to our expectations and the price we paid for a three night stay could have well seen us through an overseas holiday.

This was a very beautiful hotel / resort. The room was probably the nicest room we have ever stayed in, anywhere in the world. The food was excellent, and the the staff friendly and professional. The range of eco activities was terrific. There was so much wildlife living around the resort that it felt like being on safari. The only very slight negative was that we stayed in the waterfront lodge at the end of the dry season, so the water was very low and a few meters form the house (we were hoping it was right up to the house - which it is during the rest of the year). But really, that was no problem - we loved it anyway. I wold definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves beautiful accommodation, great food, a beautiful atmosphere, environmental friendliness and great access to Sigiriya and surrounds.

We really enjoyed our stay at Jetwing Vil Uyana and would recommend it to others. The rooms are lovely, with the plunge pool a nice addition. Great scenery around the grounds, wildlife etc. The restaurant leaves a little to be desired - the staff were a little disinterested at times and incredibly inconsistent in their service. Bills were often wrong and needed to be corrected; meals often mixed up too. I understand that Jetwing is training local staff and am prepared to be patient, but only patient to a point - after all you are paying quite a bit to stay there!
The surrounding area is interesting, but you don't need days to explore - climbing Lion Rock well worth it, and some other walks in the area too, but that is about it. We didn't make the extra effort to drive to Polunarrawa or Anandarapuhra (sorry re spelling!).
