The property looks tired and in need of a revamp, but it was comfortable, clean and the staff were very helpful and efficient.

The noise from the nightlife kept me awake all night.
There was damp on every wall from Ceiling to floor.
I was asked to wait on the chairs by receptionists, then people came in and was was seen straight away. Not what I wanted after travelling for 16 hours.
The tables and work tops was generally not clean, same goes for the bathroom.
It was very hard to find the right temperature when having a shower.

Excellent short stay.
Very clean and the staff were attentive.
Comfortable room, a good night's sleep.
Room needed some TLC though.

The bathroom design is typical in Vietnam whereby when taking a shower, water spill all over the floor causing mildew and a stale smell in the bathroom. The pillow used for decoration could use some cleaning.
The place offers good breakfast although I believe the amount of food going to waste each day is probably high due to lack of guests. The food is great however.

I stayed for two nights at this hotel. First night in the new part, deluxe room and second night in the original old part in the superior room.
The wifi was OK in the NEW section, deluxe room. The bed was horrible, springs in my back. The view was not much. Room was quiet.
The original old building was a superior (cheaper) room, wifi was almost unuseable, room was larger, view is nicer, bed/mattress is comfortable. Room is tired as are the towels/sheets in this section. Balcony was nice. View of pool and sea. Beware of the loud noise from the external bar (outside of the hotel) until around midnight. Bathroom hasn't been modernized since the 1980s, probably except for a relatively recent bath tub.
Location of this hotel was great. I'd stay here again but would take a superior room in the old section of the hotel facing the road on the opposite side of the hotel in a higher floor and I'd make sure the wifi signal was working in the room before taking the room.
Breakfast was normal vietnamese not outstanding. Nothing special.

It's a bit rough in places, but for the money it us fine. However, the breakfast chef is grumpy every morning.

The location of the Rex hotel was fantastic. The rate was excellent. I believe the 3 star rating to be correct. The decor is tired and worn. The rooms are big. We stayed five nights during which time our room was entered by an unknown person (s) twice. On one of these occasions a cigarette was left on our coffee table (my wife and I do not smoke). Nothing was stolen. The staff were friendly. Good value for money at this Hotel. Breakfast was OK.

Staff were great. Older part of hotel is fairly run down but was advised of this upon check in. I chose to stay in the older part as I wanted a balcony. Daily housekeeping with 2 small bottles of water provided. Great location. Very close to beach, restaurants, bars and public transport. ATM out the front. My only real issue was the ladders to get in and out of the pool, not very user friendly. Could do with cushions/mats for the pool chairs also but this is just a personal preference. Overall pretty good. I didn't have the breakfast so unable to comment on this.

Staff are wonderful. Rooms a bit dated but they did advise of this at check in. I wanted a balcony so chose to stay in the older part. Great location close to everything - restaurants, bars, beach and taxis. ATM just outside the front door. Only issue is the ladders to get in and out of the pool - not flat rungs to step on, they're round and small (accident waiting to happen). I didn't pay for breakfast option so can't comment on that.

A tired hotel full of people taking seminars. Breakfast could have been a lot better. Position was good and swimming pool. Wouldn’t stay there again.

The Rex is one of the better and nicer options in Vung Thau. Outside of allowing some riff-raff into the bar area late night, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. Cheers!

Overall a good hotel for the price. Good location. Staff could use some improvement for breakfast buffet. You have a nice pool, but NO staff. Nobody to bring drinks or food. MISSED OPPORTUNITY !! Nice new renovation, but the bathroom shower design was a mistake. Shower floods the floor every time, and only because of poor design.

Last minute booking; the staff were really helpful and polite and loved the old world charm and excellent location

Stay at this hotel for a few days.
Its actually has 2 parts, new one, that recently completed and old one.
I stayed at the new one and it was relatively comfortable and clean, the lobby and cleaning staff were friendly and professional.
The restaurant food is below the average with very poor variety. The most surprising was shortage of fruits at the buffet, consider abundance of fruits in the country. Staff at the restaurant poorly trained and pay no attention to the guests, staff can be seen checking phones or chatting with each other but don't even bother to come and ask you if you need anything.

This hotel is from the 1970s. The bathroom suite was aqua blue coloured, tiles grimy, carpet worn and all furniture at least 40 years old by the look of it. The safe was a nightmare to open, I think it may have had low batteries. The one good thing was the bed; it was huge and pretty comfortable. Small balcony that overlooked the pool, but lots of cigarette ends in the drain as you peer over the edge looked bad. This hotel needs more maintenance and a complete refurbishment. There was no Spa, even though it was advertised. Bought a Heineken in pool bar which was a good price, but Corona costs more than 3 times the price! The pool was ok, but too much crap floating in it.I wouldnt stay here again, simply because there are other hotels in better condition for half the price, but without a pool.

I booked a superior room. Extremely old hotel decor in the 60 or 70 the reception area stank, dark and uninviting.
Went to the room and old, dark, paint peeling off the walls, stinky, stained walls and ceiling all around us the bed looked disgusting too., also the safe was not secured to anything.
This room should not be allowed for use!!
There was a new wing attached to the hotel I could see from the room. Went to reception and asked to have a look in the new wing. The room was lovely and I upgraded.
Breakfast buffet was a let down. Room service was ok, the staff speak little English and there was no where to sit at the pool also the pool man was very protective of the pool towels.

OK experience. The breakfast buffet was ok. They did false advertised on indoor pool on their website? They do not have an indoor pool only outside pool.
Overall not worth the price. I would not recommend to anyone.

I read a lot of reviews before booking this hotel for 3 nights (February 2-5th, 2017), hoping that maybe people who left negative reviews are too demanding. Well, not at all! All the people who left negative reviews are right on point! The hotel had its prime probably 20 years ago, all thats left from it now is the pool located outside (street level) and the central location to many bars, restaurant and the Front Beach.I requested to be given a renovated room and they said they fullfilled our request. Oh wow, if our room (607) was a renovated room I dont know how other rooms look like then. The room is huge, but so old and outdated! The walls are covered with mold and even the bed frame had some mold. I thought of taking pictures, but Im not used to taking pictures of nasty things. I guess I should start doing it, to provide a more vivid addition to my reviews. Also, most rooms are connecting rooms and the wall between the room is so thin that you could clearly hear the guests in the the other room like they are sitting in your room. We had very VERY loud neighbours with kids, so it was total nightmare to listen to their kids screaming and running around and the parents yelling at the kids. I spoke to front desk about it and they said they will give the warning, but nothing changed at all, so we just had to deal with it and turn our TV on super loud so we wont hear them. The only good thing about the room was the view, we booked the seaview room and it was overlooking b

Breakfast was very ordinaraging photos of hotel must be 20 years old

If you are looking for something that is central and close to the beach, then the Rex will be fine for you. The rooms are a bit dated but give a colonial feel, which is the underlying focus of the hotel. The staff can communicate in English for basics.
The hotel is a true 3 star hotel.

Good location. Rooms were clean and tidy, perhaps needing some refurbishment. The bathrooms were stuck in a bit of a time warp and showering (and keeping the bathroom from flooding ) with the shower over bath set up required a bit of a contortionist act, unless you were under 5 foot tall. Having said that, everything was clean and the water hot and steady so not the end of the world. The breakfasts were great. There was a lovely pool area/poolside bar and the staff were friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with.

Air Conditioning needs upgrading. Our bar fridge did not work and a request to hotel staff was ignored. Floor coverings in the room need replacing, they are very old and worn. The buffet breakfast was very poor quality. Many of the food items were not replenished, which made the selection very sparse.
As a retired Travel Agent I found this hotel very disappointing and would not recommend to a client.

This Hotel is next to the Front beach and in the middle of this small town.
You can rent a motorcycle and go to the back beach which is nicer. Rex hotel is in the near of the ferry terminal and not far away from the Jesus Statue.
Breakfast Buffet is satisfying. Rooms are clean and big.
There are a lot of nice restaurants around.
