TL;DR: Average room, non-existent Continental breakfast, decent location, affordable price.
Overall, it was okay. Traveled to Big Bear for a weekend trip with my gf. The first night, the shower has no hot water, even after running for a few minutes. There was no table in the room and no set-aside closet, but since it was a short trip, it was bearable. The heater in the room worked thankfully. Like other reviews have noted, the walls are thin so you can hear other guests.
The listing on the hotel states that there is a hot tub and pool. The pool was closed given that it was winter. The hot tub was small and didn't looked very appealing. We didn't try it.
The main gripe I had was the Continental breakfast. It says that breakfast was provided which is one of the reasons why we ended up staying here. In short, there is effectively NO breakfast, more like a few snacks. There was no hot food, only a few small prepackaged muffins, hard-boiled eggs, and some coffee. Oddly, given the poor selection, the breakfast hours are still restricted to 8-10 am. We decided to instead go to a local cafe (I strongly recommend just not bothering with the breakfast or at least know what you're getting which isn't much).

Disappointed in checkin desk area smelled like cigarettes, hot tub “was warm” according to check in person,
‘pool is not open” no room service.

Excellent for the price - get what you pay for, good basic continental breakfast, comfy bed, lots of privacy. However hot tub jets do not work which was a little disappointing. Got to check in early which was very convenient and would stay again. Thank you!

The hotel was a bit tired and cleanliness could have been a little better, but for the price we were happy with the accommodation.

Really cool spot easily walkable to most restaurants. Our room was very nice, big jacuzzi and balcony. Parking is easy and the breakfast was great too. I’ll be staying again.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. The day we checked in we arrived early and asked if our room happen to be ready, it wasn't ready but the woman at the desk gave us towels and invited us to use the pool until our room was clean. When our room was clean, she walked out and told us. My twelve year old son also forgot his cell phone charger and the night desk woman let us borrow one. They both went out of their way for us and it was greatly appreciated.

Nicole was such a joy as our first point of contact, and when we decided to extend our stay she was able to accommodate us with no issues!
Will definitely be back and tell our family and friends!

NOT like the place on the photos. Unsafe all around the area had to actually leave and book elsewhere

In booking description our room offered a “jet jacuzzi tub” . Was in fact just a tub with no working jets, no water pressure and took over an hour to fill up . This was the main reason we booked this room which was very expensive for one night . Will not be booking again .

The hotel was alright... my main issue was the bed was old/worn out and terribly uncomfortable (it was so bad my wife and I got up early each day to end the pain). Plus, the front door to our room had a bad lock as it was really hard to get the door to open. Then whoever installed the sink in the bathroom cut some corners as there was maybe a half inch of space to actually wash your hands without touching the side of the bowl. Lastly, none of the windows seemed to lock and there were gaps in the curtains/blinds (even the front door) to where people could see in on us. I could live with the lock, the sink, and even the lack of privacy, but the bed was so bad we don't plan to return. We did really love the hot tub, as well as enjoyed the bavarian style/charm of this place and the staff seemed nice.

This property is very outdated. Rooms do not have air conditioning. The rooms have a very strong odor. Walls are very thin. Hot water ran out very quickly. Employees were kind and helpful.

We had a great visit, cute and quaint - rustic lodge. Enjoyed the outdoor areas - sitting area and hot tub.

My new favorite place in Big Bear! Walking to kayak rentals, restaurants and bars. Also there are plenty of outdoor areas where you can chill and setup a hammock :-)
See you guys soon!

Worst experience ever. Don’t waste your time or money. Dirty cabins, false advertising, tweekers and rude staff! Be sure and read all reviews including here and Yelp. The older lady with white hair in the front office is rude and lies. I’m surprised the Owner of this property allows this type of behavior towards customers. Much better places to stay in Big Bear!

BEWARE: Bait-and-switch. The room I booked online was not the room I was provided. There were dozens of rooms to select from so I was very specific in the room we chose. The room I was provided was dirty and rundown, had a completely different layout, had stained bedding, had spiders, and was disgusting. The property had definitely seen better days, maybe 30 years ago. The stairs were unsafe, with torn carpeting and bricks falling off or broken.
When I asked the front desk to give us the room we paid for, they said Orbitz had assigned the rooms. Orbitz said it was the hotel. When I asked to cancel, the same issue. Neither would accept the responsibility for the gross room or the refund, each blaming the other.

If you are looking for a 5 star place to stay then this is not for you. If you are looking for a nice getaway for a weekend then this will be just fine. It is in a mountain community so you should expect just that.

Older property with quaint charm. Staff was great and very helpful. On the main road, so a little noisy bt new windows would fix that. Fire station across the street

Property was clean but everything felt old and like it needed major upgrades. TV was fuzzy. One bed really uncomfortable. Budget friendly, but you get what you pay for.

It was a really nice stay. Loved the hot tub and the pool. The room was a little on the old and dusty side and the plumbing fixtures had leaks but nothing too bad. Staff is very friendly, and I can’t wait to go back and bring my family on a family trip. They do have big cabins for families!

Loved it great outdoors vibes

The studio room bed was advertised as a queen bed with a couch (this was the picture that was posted with the studio room), but it was a smaller full size bed with a mattress that was lumpy and uncomfortable. The free breakfast had limited hours,8-10am and the options were prepackaged and unappealing. I would not recommend this hotel.

Nice staff, good location, ok breakfast. Very dated rooms- extremely noisy. Had to pay for an upgrade to get a kitchenette- Expedia description of the room I ordered was inaccurate.

We had the worst experience at this lodge last night. We were attending Puppotopia in Big bear for our puppy and booked a room for a night at this place, as we live 2 hours away in Castaic!
After checking in, we realized how small the ac unit was and how it wasn’t really cooling the room but we were only there for the night so we decided to suck it up and just follow through. From 7 pm to 10 pm, the unit above us kept making lots of noises and it was like so loud, felt like they were moving furniture and dribbling basketballs. My husband went to notify the front desk as there is no phone in this lodge … the lady upfront said she will check out what is going on upstairs but not sure if she did anything because noises didn’t stop.
Then to make things worse, the roof started leaking. We didn’t notice but when we checked in, there must have been a hole in the ceiling and around 1030 pm, water was dripping on the bed. My husband went again to the front desk, in hopes someone could come take a look and maybe move us to a diff cottage… do anything… but the lady upfront suggested ‘oh just move your bed’… she had no empathy, she didn’t have the decency to apologize or even try to help us. We asked if we could get a refund as now we will need to leave here, in the middle of the night and drive home which is 2 hours away. Her response was I am not authorized and thats it. No recommendations, no understanding of what was happening and no customer service whatsoever… worst experience!

Loved our stay at Black Forest. Cabin was very cozy and perfect for our night stay, wished we had more time on this trip. Comfy bed, fireplace and spa tub perfect for relaxing after a day outdoors. Perfect location that was a quick drive or walk to the Village. Property was very nice and staff was very friendly with any questions we had.

The accommodation was so dirty and unsafe. The bed was covered with a blanket that made it clear that it had not been washed. The mattresses were hairy and furry, and I had to sleep on top of the blanket. I was angry that I came here after paying for it. The photos and explanations on the website are many wrong. We wasted the price of the room, but our condition was terrible because we couldn't sleep in an uncomfortable accommodation. We stopped taking our once-in-a-year vacation and came back home. I hope others don't make mistakes.

Rooms are spartan. No A/C.

First room had no A/C. Second area looked at and $60.00 more no A/C, smells, very old, need painted.
Hot tub has sign no jets. Ased next day when are they getting fixed. Told that it hasn't worked in years...pool needs vacuumed. Area cleaned. Never be back or recommend.
