Great location, amazing views, iconic hotel. The room was clean and comfortable but a bit outdated. It didn’t bother me though. The view was great from my room and from the top bar/ restaurant in the 26th floor.
5.0
In summary: we did enjoy our stay and would stay here again.
Pros:
- we were on the 24th floor and the views were amazing!
-Dostyk Ave has so many shops and delicious restaurants in short walking distance. We could also walk to Ascension Cathedral, Kok Tobe, and most attractions.
-many bars in the hotel, so many people met us for drinks and we didn't have to go far.
-shower head was nice and water was warm.
-it is cool to stay in such an iconic building.
Cons:
-The bed was quite hard for our taste.
-room was small.
-not enough dressers, wardrobes, storage space for our clothes.
-shower was very tight.
-breakfast was good and there was a variety of selection. However, it was very busy and crowded.
-it costs the taxes money to enter the hotels driveway, so no taxi wanted to drop off or pick up right at the hotel. It was easy to walk to a corner once we knew, but shocking at first.

Stay of 5 nights. Dining options in and around hotel are excellent. Front desk staff very helpful and sorted out one problem very quickly. Immediate area very walkable and main sights are within a short walk of the hotel. A very enjoyable stay.

The building is the highlight of this hotel, it is visible from many parts of the city and also is a feature of many portraits and paintings seen across the city!
The rooms are large, with good city views!
We booked a suite with mountain views!
It's has a restaurant called Noodles at the ground floor which is good! They have a bar on the terrace and ground floor, so you would have plenty options if you are not willing to leave the hotel.
Making it a bustling/ bustling property. You'll find people coming and going through out the day.
On weekends they have music playing in these bars, you can walk down and join the party or rest in your room. However the music can be heard on higher floors as well.
The location is just perfect to access the majority of the attractions via taxi or subway.
Also a few cafe's and restaurants at a walkable distance!
Do request them for renovated rooms, the staff is helpful!
An over-all comfortable stay!

The historic hotel was comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. The view over the city was beautiful.

Other reviews reflect that the property is dated, which is accurate. They are renovating floor by floor, which is helpful. We stayed in a suite, which included an extra room with a foldout couch. No AC in the bedroom, but a wall unit in the extra room. After a few hours of attempting to sleep in the warm bedroom, we moved to the other room for the remainder of our stay. It was comfortable. However, the AC wall unit was not mounted in the window, so after a few hours, the captured liquid dripped continually onto the carpet into a puddle. Breakfast was plentiful, but average quality. The hotel staff were friendly, but not helpful in assisting with general tourist questions and sites. As a final send-off, our very friendly staff person ordered a taxi to the airport for us, and then mistakenly directed us to the wrong car. He loaded our luggage, the car left, and we ended up in the city at restaurant. We had to convince the driver to take us to the airport and paid double the cost.
Overall we had a very average to below average experience. The hotel is inexpensive, and we got wat we paid for. I would not return.

This hotel needs a serious refurbish. It looks nothing like the photos. The restaurants on site are good but the rooms are run down. Location is convenient.

cheap airport transfer using “YandexGO” app (airport wifi useless so ensure you’ve access to international data or buy local SIM to use - cost gbp 6 for 30+ minutes journey). hotel is significantly updated soviet era tower unlike headline promotion photo on website but smart & posh internally with lots of adjacent restaurants (up huge external staircase- no obvious lift & no connection from lobby). quick efficient friendly check in, clerk a mine of useful local transport info (bus 12 from stop opposite takes 25 minutes to reach ski lift and resort with snow in April for gbp 40pence). lots of good lifts in hotel, room old but fine- breakfast very good

Not so expensive, but easy to access to all what you need for your tourism and your work. They work efficiently not organizationally but personally. I enjoyed a lot staying here. There were good restaurants and cafes around there .

The hotel was pretty amazing experience to have in Almaty as I’ve been told that its one of the oldest hotels their and its like a time capsule😍 the view are wonderful no matter which side or floor you are at!
The hotel have 24/7 restaurant (Noodles) and its yummy as well as they have 24/7 mini market inside the hotel and a coffee shop.
If I'm visiting Almaty again, definitely will be staying at Kazakhstan Hotel again.

The hotel is a bit old and worn out, the room is pretty small, but the views on the higher floors are amazing, the location is good and breakfast is superb. But the personnel is ok, couldn't find a luggage trolley and weren't really friendly.

Dry good service. Amazing breakfast

Extremely helpful staff. I had no problems communicating regardless of spending neither Kazakh nor Russian. The room was a little old, and the tv was not compatible with internet. There was no fridge in the room either. Aside from that everything was great. Breakfast was nice. The hotel is close to bunch of resorts and there’s a nice park right outside.

This hotel has an ideal location. You can walk to many attractions. also metro and bus stop near the hotel. The hotel staff are wonderful, very helpful and kind. The breakfast is delicious.
The lobby and reception area are a bit dusty. Also don't use the shop and currency exchange at the hotel because the price is too high there.
my room did not match the photo on the site. the furniture is old and chipped. big TV from the 90s. In general, the feeling of the room is like returning to the USSR

This is a landmark Soviet era hotel updated with contemporary style and current amenities. Terrific service. Breakfast buffet included an extraordinary array of regional and classic foods.

Air condition was not available in the bedroom (only in the second room within Junior Suite).

Nice breakfast
Extremely loud music on the 26th floor preventing guests from sleeping on floors around it
Nice staff

Location of hotel was excellent, walking distance to most tourist attractions. I didn’t like my room, had an old CRT tv with poor satellite reception. If you want a good sleep, I recommend choosing the city view. The mountain view has a nightclub on ground level which plays music every night.

Breakfast is amazing. But the head of staff is always pushing his cart to the coffee/tea station. Hitting me or blocking my way. He is Turkish and cares only about Turkish guests!
I paid for superior room. but got basic room instead. Stayed 23 nights and asked the reception director(Ameli) to upgrade my room. She made me sit in front of reception for 3 hours for 3 consecutive days while she kept saying 5 minutes.
She had no respect for foreigners. Expedia should be notified that all the Kazakhstanis had the superior(Lux) rooms. She kept showing me downgraded rooms, instead of upgrading. Never again. They owe me money for wasting 3 days of my cherished vaccation! waiting for her to talk to me. She thinks her time is more important than the foreign clients! I think the Turkish owners hired her for her looks & nothing else. She is so rude and think that she is superior!

Thanks, friendly and pleasant staff.

There is a bar/open air night club. Absolutely impossible to sleep and rest during a night. Music is extremely loud.
Shower sewer is clogged. Shower was leaking.
Old towels in bathroom.
Breakfast was delicious.

I've been to Kazakhstan many times and stayed at several places in Almaty. The Hotel Kazakhstan is my top choice for several reasons: It is in a prime location in the heart of the city where you can easily walk to many of the main attractions--the Green Bazaar, Panfilov Park, Ascension Cathedral, Kok-Tobe funicular, the opera house, etc. Almaty is a city made for walking!
The hotel Kazakhstan is at a higher elevation, especially if you're in an upper floor, so the air is much fresher. The big windows in the rooms also open wide, so you can let in all the fresh mountain air.
The complimentary breakfast is vast, with all the usual breakfast items plus many hot dishes, fruits, salads, etc. There are several good restaurants in the Hotel KZ complex, and there are dozens of excellent restaurants nearby.
Directly behind the Hotel Kazakhstan is a peaceful and shady city park where you can relax. It also has a great children's playground--excellent if you are traveling with kids.
If you are new to Almaty, you will want to ride up to Kok-Tobe on the funicular, and the entrance is directly next door.
I found the hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly. (Not all the staff are equally good with English, so you should have patience too.)
Lastly, the room rates are a great bargain (I had a "Superior" room on the 24th floor on my last visit, which had terrific mountain views.)
There are many much more expensive hotels in Almaty, but the Hotel Kazakhstan is my personal favorite.
