The hotel is well kept and the staff were very attentive. Our room was confortable. The hotel is close to many shops and restaurant.

Our room was unique and comfortable. The antique elevator worked great and was tiny and quaint. Breakfast was fair. Liked the Tea station on the floor

It was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was exceptional. Will surely recommend 👌 👍. Loved the location and history of the hotel. Wish i booked a view.

The General Palmer is a small hotel on Main St in Durango. It was built in 1898, so the old building has some creeks and groans. The old elevator was a challenge, but manageable. Our room did not have a balcony, but there was a large deck accessable ftom the hallway. We were oriented so we could see the Durango- Silverton trains leave in the AM and return in the PM. If you're a late sleeper, request tge opposite side of the hotel. All the staff was friendly and informative. The complimentary breakfast was good. As you would expect, it was not exceptional but tasty and hot. We enjoyed being on Main St and quick access to the shops and restaurants.

Like stepping back in time in Victorian hotel with vintage decor. We were thrilled to arrive to warm chocolate chip cookies, and 24-hour coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc. We were in Presidential Suite that is comfortable, with sofa to watch TV, and has a Keurig. We had views of the quaint downtown, with shops and restaurants just steps away, and the adjoining train station. Good breakfast with waffle machine, eggs, fresh fruit etc but no oatmeal. The staff were nice and helpful.

Hotel upgraded our room from standard to a king

Historic hotel on Main Street Durango. Easy parking. Front Desk staff was great. Rooms furnished in period pieces. Nice 4-poster king bed. Be aware that the hotel is right next to the station of the Durango-Silverton Railroad Station. When the trains are arriving and leaving, the train whistles and noise is loud if your room faces the Station. Train activity starts around 7:00AM and ends around 10:00PM. Best Italian restaurant and French bakery in Durango are within steps from the hotel. Perfect location to ride the train or enjoy the downtown night life.

Super friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, very comfortable bed and room. Convenient location - walked to all the shops downtown. Everything exceeded expectations and was well worth it!

Lovely Victorian Hotel with the charm and elegance of that period. Well maintained with up to date conveniences. Beautiful room! Great location! Love Durango and the Silverton-Durango train and the sound of the whistle… all contributing to make the visit very memorable and special! Could watch the train depart from our hotel room window!

Omg do not go to this property if you have luggage. There is no one to help and the elevator is nearly impossible. the other downside is there is no bar or restaurant. There is coffee and breakfast, but that is it. The positive it is cute and quaint, location is great.

really old elevator , may be hard to use for some, but unique, great staff morning and evening

We loved the location of the General Palmer Hotel. It was walkable to everything downtown. The historical building was immaculately maintained and elegant. The staff was very accommodating.

Oh my gosh!!! The best rooms, the best staff. Very friendly. Great breakfast. Very impressed. It is a gorgeous hotel with a great balcony off the back so you can see the train. If you are doing the silverton train ride, stay here, it is honestly in their back yard!!!

We had an inside room. No windows. Very comfortable room.

Fantastic historic hotel in the heart of Durango next to the train station. Fantastic staff!

Great place to stay in downtown Durango. Hotel has old west feel, a unique elevator, great breakfast, cookies, tea and coffee all day. Back door leads right to historic railroad and front door to downtown Durango if ever in Durango stay here. There is also another old hotel nearby but thought the Palmer better suited for kids…

I hate to leave a bad review for this hotel because I love historic hotels and this one is beautiful. I paid and a little over $400 for a room during a busy weekend when there were lots of tourists in Durango.
When I went upstairs to my room and discovered that it did NOT HAVE A WINDOW. The fact that this was an interior room and did not have a window was NOT DISCLOSED to me.
There's no way I could stay in a $400 a night room with no window, no way to look out at the street, and with the feeling of being stuck in the middle of the hotel with no fire sprinklers.
The staff told me te hotel WAS COMPLETELY BOOKED. And when I told them that I couldn't sleep in the room they completely understood and told me that it happens all the time and that very few people are actually comfortable in that room. They offered no apology, however I am grateful that they did refund my money.
The situation created great stress for me as there was no other Hotel available that night in Durango.
So I regret leaving this bad review but I say to people who are trying to stay there, beware and make sure you double check so that you can stay in a room with the window.
The advertising should have reflected the situation up front.

One of the prettiest places I’ve stayed!

We had an amazing 2-night stay at the General Palmer Hotel! We initially chose this location for our train and rafting trip but were very happy with the comfort, the customer service and the location. I highly recommend!

Older property built about 1900. Well preserved and updated, but still has the feel of the early 1900s. Close walk to many restaurants and tourist shops. Very close to the Silverton train depot. We enjoyed the train ride very much. Only negative was a bar across the street that played loud music. We were there on 4th of July weekend, so that may not be a regular event.
4.4
We loved our beautiful, comfortable room. It is in a great location for walking to restaurants and shops and, of course, the train station. The train whistles did not bother us because we were awake early. We would love to stay here again.

Clean friendly service, great location, fun bar with old time piano.

Everything was exceptional!

Over all a nice place to stay. The decor was great. An old west/victorian theme. Very well done. My few complaints would be my room was in another building all together across the parking lot. So the morning coffee/tea was not stocked in that building. The train station is next door. So if you want a nap during the day…forget about it. Our room wasn’t ready until later so we had a few hours to burn which wasn’t a problem but after a long day of travel, we wanted to rest. Also, you are given an actual metal key to your room with a $25 fee if lost.
The staff was friendly.

We had a room in the annex, which was tiny but very clean and comfortable and recently renovated. The room had a massive king bed with a memorable headboard and wood frame; the room was well-decorated, respecting the local history, Pluses include robes and a shared sheltered balcony (which overlooks the parking lot and the main hotel). Lost a point for not explaining in the room description that it was not in the main part of the hotel and accessed only by a staircase that needs some maintenance.
4.4
Beautiful and quaint property. Extremely clean. Wonderful breakfast! We will definitely stay there again.
4.4
The room was charmingly beautiful. Staff was friendly and helpful. We have never had such a comfortable bed, we didn't want to leave. We wanted something quaint and historical, it exceeded our expectations. But if you are looking for modern amenities like microwaves and refrigerators you won't find them. But there is water, coffee and tea on every floor with lovely balconies to sit and enjoy the scenery.
We hope we can return soon.

Love the old time feel of the hotel. Staff was very helpful with storing our mountain bikes
