We had an amazing place, everything was just perfect. The room was huge, bed very comfortable, hot shower, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits, all you need to be happy. The breakfast was delicious. Close distance to the town, Raglan Castle, Puzzlewood, Tintern Abbey and other local attractions. Highly recommended place to stay either for short or longer break. If we ever visit the area again, we'll definitely choose the The Church Farm.

For those who love old buildings as I do, this a lovely place to stay - a 16th century house. It’s full of original features like fire places, beams etc. There are lots of books, including for children, available to borrow. One was a 1914 very detailed description of that part of Monmouthshire - local history, buildings, family trees etc. Church Farm is mentioned. There’s also an old church nearby in the village of Mitchel Troy. My room was at the top, on the third floor and had ensuite with shower and toilet. There were two quite steep staircases to climb to get there, so those top floor rooms are not suitable for people with physical limitations, but I think there are other rooms lower down? The main road is very close, but is behind an area of dense large trees, so the house is convenient for the road and at the same time secluded and quiet. Parking is available at the end of a short driveway from the road. The only thing I’d say is that the sign on the road for Church House is small and doesn’t stand out, especially in the dark. I drove past the first time. I had a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay with everything I needed.

There was orange mould growing in the shower head and the black mould around the tiling. The sloping floors in the bathrroom made me feel unsteady. The stairs to the room were steep and narrow and carrying heavy bags was awkward. Spider webs around the books in the room and the kettle, which was placed in the window to be near a socket and across the room from the service, was scaled and stained orange inside. We saw no-one on our return from exploring at around 19:30 so were not able to discuss a time for breakfast on Sunday and it appears there seemed to be an understanding that it would be the same as on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, we wanted a bit more of a lie in on Sunday and planned to be down by 8.30 but the owner was banging on our bedroom door by 8.10 to tell us he was trying to stop our breakfast drying out. We came down minutes later and then had to wait for 15 minutes until the breakfast was served. I can't decide if Fawlty Towers or the Acorn Antiques Tea room would have been better. There was no one to hand over keys to so we gratefully left them in the bedroom door and hightailed it out. On the upside the beds were clean and comfortable and we slept well.

Was made to feel a nuisance as I'd knocked on the wrong door, and also as it was after 7pm when I arrived. Very steep stairs. Needed to run around in the tiny shower cubicle to get wet. Cooked breakfast doesn't start until after 8am.

Fabulous stay - Friendly hosts, great parking facilities, lovely quiet, comfortable and well equipped room. Delicious breakfast. Only had time for a short walk in the area, but the view I discovered was gorgeous. Will definitely return next time I'm travelling past this area.

We recently stayed at Church Farm Guest House in the quiet village of Mitchel Troy, a few miles from Monmouth. I would recommend it if you want a good value, homely Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast was beautifully cooked. Our bedroom and en-suite were clean and the traditional decor was well maintained. Hosts were friendly and interesting. Yes, the stairs were steep , but if my 80 yr old husband managed them , what’s the problem? Good exercise!
