Mr. Edison was extra nice, we arrived at 9:00am. Check in was until 3:00pm but he let us to check in at our arrival time at no extra charge, that was awesome. The rest of the staff very nice, pool was excellent very clea. Yes the building is up for touch up, but everything works AC, Lighting, bathroom. We stay 2 night and my family an I left the place more than happy. Definitely recommended.

Hotel is extremely old, does not look anything like pictures. AC unit is loud and could not sleep at all. The lighting unit in the bedroom with ceiling fan swung around so hard we thought it was unsafe so we did not sleep in room. We expected more for the price we paid.

Rustic, basic, roomy and convenient. Staff are friendly and accommodating. All our needs were met. The pool area is very nice.

We pre booked for 2 weeks, only stayed 1 night, long enough to find somewhere else to stay. The pictures on line don't show really what it looks like. We booked a room with a kitchen. It had nothing..no plates no cutlery no pots or pans. No bottled water. The so called library was tattered books stuffed in a closet. The pool was murky. Wifi was extremely week. The only good thing to say is that it is in a good location walking distance to beach restaurants market. But I would not recommend a stay here

The A/C barely worked and the shower was just a dribble. Had to use sink water poured from a jug to shower up. Cockroach ran over shoulder as I tried to sleep. Wifi was extremely week, almost useless. Would not stay again

This was our 2nd stay here. I like the hotel it’s small close to everything I need - oxxo, bakery, beach is 10 mins walk, Mercado and the awesome market area, and is easy to grab a taxi. Hotel itself has gotten somewhat upgrades since last we stayed 2 yrs ago. Our suite had a new toilet and they were actively working in the pool area. Nothing crazy just cosmetic it was more than usable. I feel Comfortable in the area and it was great to be back.

The hotel is in the perfect location to quickly walk downtown or to the beach. It has all the amenities I'm looking for, and the owner/ manager is excellent - very helpful!

The location of the property was good, 10 mins walk to the beach, 15 mins walk to the centro, very close to the mega and many many veggie and seafood markets. Hamburger place next to the Oxxo was tasty for a quick bite and the bakery up the street was deliciious. It was myself and my sister that stayed for a week, first room we stayed in had air conditioning issues so after a couple hours they moved us a couple doors down which worked fine. The suites themselves are cute, could definately use a deep cleaning though, lots of dust on the shelves and fans, the shower heads could also use a baking soda and vinegar soak to open up the jets. Lots of water as well as hot water - just takes a couple mins to warm up sometimes. Would be nice to have the fridge cold when you get there to check in but not a big deal it just takes a couple hours. The pool area was nice and the pool was clean, good to cool off after walking back from town. Was nice that you could smoke on the balcony of the suite. The owners were very nice and not pushy whatsoever, very accommodating however the lady doesn't speak much english but hey your in mexico at a small hotel what do you expect. one thing I do suggest is if your getting up early to go somewhere let them know the night or day before so you don't feel bad waking them up to open the door to let you out. If you come back later and the door is closed - no big deal just knock and someone lets you in right away. no elevator so 2nd flr was good.

I had a great stay there. My room was on the second floor, corner unit with two ample balconies and plenty of light and fresh air. I was impressed by the size and cleanliness of the suite, a kitchenette was included. Plus the location was terrific, a few blocks from the malecon, so there was no noise at night, yet within easy walking distance of everything.

Thought this would be a good fit for our family of four for one night but the couch with a 2.5" pad wasn't comfortable and the mattress on the bed was not good either. The area was close for walking to restaurants and the beach which was good. The host was very helpful with information, calling us a cab and providing extra blankets.

There is an incredibly aggressive German Shepard at the front desk that will lunge and bark at you. Cujo style. Not just there at night for security or protection, but all times of day and night. They close the main door at some time in the evening. You have to knock to be let in the main entrance and you will be met by a super grouchy man that will glare at you for coming home after he believes is an appropriate time. They also get super irritated and angry if you have any visitors. Feels more like a dorm with overly strict parents than a hotel. Other than that, the room itself is nice. Old, rustic, and beautiful. Pool is nice and clean. Good location.

This hotel is a gem. It is in a quiet neighborhood, run by Edison, the man who built the hotel. It is squeaky clean. There is a nice pool in the inner courtyard with lots of areas to lounge. All rooms have a balcony and most, if not all have kitchenettes. Edison is fluent in English and can answer all your questions and give directions. The room was large and airy. It includes a tv, air conditioning, hot water, daily maid service...everything you need. We loved it.

Lovely little hotel with charming and extremely hospitable staff. Very spacious room with a separate living area and two terraces! Close to good food, the beach, the main town and a block from fast and cheap laundry facilities. Highly recommended.

Hotel dated but pleasant; the manager, Edison, is very helpful, fluent English speaker and effective fixer of things. Unfortunately, the old, noisy air-conditioners and the adjacent bakery make ear-plugs essential for sleeping.Expedia.ca misled us about the facilities we booked; we booked a room with kitchenette without knowing that the kitchenette was an extra charge, which is very clearly stated in the hotel's documents. This created a tense interview with Edison but we understood this to be Expedia's fault. This is disappointing. We request that this be corrected by Expedia.ca.Many guests were repeat visitors (some for five years!) and the surrounding streets were surprisingly quiet for Mexico…. Also, many of them were Canadians from the cold prairies.

Many of the guests we met are regulars from the states and Canada who have made this their regular vacation spot each year. Very family friendly.

Our stay at the Solimar was very enjoyable, with everything you need within walking distance. We stayed for 2 weeks, in a kitchenette unit on the 3 Rd floor with pleasant view of the park and lots of people watching. Our room , although quite dated, was spacious, and any issues we did have were promptly taken care of by Edison, the owner. His staff were also pleasant and helpful. If you want to be in the centre of Zihau, and enjoy the real Mexico, Solimar is a good choice.
