Loved this hotel. Right outside the city walls it was very convenient for parking (December) and to enter the old city.
The hotel is old worldly, in a good way. The breakfast was fabulous. Lots of choice with much of it home made.

Such a fun, unique place

Lovely setting.

The only minor point was to have a room that was not updated to the new design, for the rest, it was perfect.

The property has a great location and unique concept. Close to the castle and inside the medieval town. We had a major problem with service at night. The bar staff refused to serve us telling us they were out of "drinks". It was 9pm and we were asked to go somewhere else. When we returned 2 couples were enjoying white wine and a cocktail. This hotel is NOT inclusive choosing who they serve. We will not return nor will we recommend it as a result. The front desk staff and breakfast staff are amazing but the dinning room have an exclusive mentality. Disappointing

Staff were friendly and the breakfast was amazing!

I loved that feeling of being transported to an old library of the past... Nothing compares to the smell and comfort physical books give you. And they were everywhere - even in the guest rooms. My only regret is not staying long enough to read a few of the books they had on display while cuddled in the gorgeous sofas in the common spaces.
I also loved the comfortable minimalism of our suite, which had two full bathrooms (quite an unexpected perk).

Amazing hotel, great staff! Beatrice the manager is very very cool and helpful!

Great location the restaurant was excellent. However the hotel itself is looking dated also mildewing smell in the hallways think it was coming from the carpet

Really quirky hotel. Amazing for book lovers and those who love old architecture. The restaurant was also good for dinner with a range of options including vegetarian. The breakfast was a buffet style but superb.

unique property full of books lining the walls and shelves. Great location - just at the foothill of Obidos wall. The only downside was the smell: the room has a heavy mildew smell, and the bathrooms has an obvious sewer smell.

Incredible hotel. Best value the room was huge, we had a suite although we booked a room with a double bed. It’s well decorated, you will find all the anémieriez you need and the hotel itself is well situated only a few steps from the old town. The hotel itself is amazing, with their collection of 70 000 books. Furthermore their breakfast buffet is wonderful and so delicious.
What an amazing surprise in our trip to Portugal!

Beautiful, unique place. Lovely, super clean room with lots of character. Amazing breakfast… and I recommend having their dinner, too! Wonderful, friendly and eager to-please staff. HIGHLY recommend!!

The most friendly amazing staff !!! Quaint and lovely and fun and unique

Charming property in a physical sense. Staff was aloof and almost surely upon arrival. No notice that restaurant is fully booked before our arrival. Luckily, wonderful restaurant across the street, we squeezed in there.
No staff present at breakfast to assist at all.
Again, charming place, but poorly staffed.

Cute and quaint old school feel. Great if you love old books and reading in libraries. Bedding was lacking in pillows. Other than a tiny fridge, no other room amenities like coffee/tea or complimentary water. I also had to request my VIP perk of 1 bottle of wine as it was not offered it to me upon checkin. Overall, you get what you pay for staying in a book-themed auberge in a very touristy old-world town like Obidos.

We loved the Literary Man!! The ambiance and style was amazing. It is a book lovers dream! The bar was fantastic. The staff from the bartenders to the girls at front desk were very kind and accommodating. They allowed us late check out which I appreciated. The suite was huge and beautiful. The only reason its 4 stars instead of 5 was because the bed, bedding and pillows were not comfortable at all. If they can just fix that issue, the hotel would be PERFECT!! Even with the beds, i would recommend this place to anyone coming to Obidos and id definitely stay again! Its right (a few steps) out side of the castle walls. Also the included breakfast buffet was delicious!!

Unique twist of having books everywhere. Not a library but collection of common books mostly in English.

Great Hotel! There is really not a lot of things to do in Obidos other than seeing the castle, but if you are thinking of staying in Obidos, I highly recommend this hotel. The vibe is so serene. We got a free bottle of wine as our VIP perk and we were able to enjoy it while reading some books in their courtyard - i wished that space would have been bigger but its still great. the free breakfast is amazing. Nothing like the ones in north america. We really enjoyed our relaxing stay in this hotel!

Great location.

Very interesting property with serious number of mainly paperbacks lining the walls. Lovely dining room with subdued lighting and many bookcases again. Had a great meal, good local wine. It is just near the gate through the walls into Obidos, thus is ideally situated for an evening stroll around the walls and along the main street. Absolutely lovely town, Well worth a visit.

This hotel is literally steps from the Moorish castle walls! The town is charming and very photogenic. The hotel was full of history! The bed was very comfortable, and the staff were pleasant.

In the Obidos old town, next to the wall. 70,000 books. Books are everywhere.
Breakfast is fabulous.
Few min walking to the attractions.
Water is not hot enough for shower.

Amazing setting with books all around. The breakfast buffet looked like a work of art. Dinner in the restaurant was also fabulous The staff were so friendly and helpful. The only downside was the limited hot water but they were working on that fix while we were there. Would absolutely recommend.

The staff at The Literary Man were first rate. It a great concept with a laid back atmosphere and books lining almost every wall. We ate dinner elsewhere, but the breakfast was a hearty buffet. They could use a bit better WIFI connectivity (a minor point). Remember that you’re in a repurposed cabin convent. Very cool looking, but not North American corporate slick (which for some may be an issue). We’d stay here again.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

We love The Literary Man! The staff is SO nice (both the front desk and the restaurant). We recommend the restaurant. It’s a beautiful room and the food was excellent.
The room we stayed in was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a little rustic - the facilities were nice (and a big shower with great water pressure), but there is only a curtain closure (no door).
We definitely recommend this hotel. And it’s right next to the Obidos wall, with easy access up some stairs. A great find.

This is an outstanding hotel! The welcome is warm and the service is gracious. The book theme is everywhere, and there's a reason for it - ask! The rooms are large and although modern, retain some of their historic flavour. The bed was beyond comfy. I absolutely love this place!

The room was small, but clean. The staff was very helpful. The restaurant was wonderful. Food was delicious.

The dining room is amazing! What a crazy idea to have all those books. It gives a special atmosphere. Service was excellent and breakfast pretty good. However our room was kind of damp and no door for the toilets, that is kind of weird.

A haven for book lovers.

Disappointed! Photos on website are deceiving. Property is a beautiful building that is run down, old carpets, painted bathroom floor is peeling, dirty. Found an old ticket dated 1-2 September under the bed and it is 31 December! The bathroom “door” is a flimsy curtain. Mattress was uncomfortable. The miniature “safe” is from the previous century and not bolted to the wall, so any criminal can carry it out of the room. The fridge is also a miniature for only 3 cans. Parking is a problem as you need to find street parking somewhere! Breakfast! Well the fruit was old and not fit for human consumption, pineapple was discoloured and apples soft and old. Not a great breakfast. As a VIP gold member we did not get our free bottle of wine and upon check out we queried it. Only the did they give us the wine bottle. Not recommended!

We love the concept, but it just isn’t a great stay in reality. The rooms are so musty smelling and moist, there were stains on our sheets, the Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, and there was no plug so we couldn’t get enjoy the bathtub. The food was great and the idea is lovely, but I was very uncomfortable staying here because of how wet it smelled and felt in our room.

I absolutely loved this hotel. Was my favorite hotel on a 3 month European tour. Obedias was a recommendation from friends I met along the way and it did not disappoint
