My go to location when in this area

Very central for a lot of things and the town centre, very friendly staff, very obliging/helpful at check in, comfortable bed, great shower, quiet room at back away from the traffic at the front.

I had the last room available. I think it was slightly over priced, supply and demand I suppose. Lots of evidence of wear and tear due to age of building and lack of ventilation. Carpets well worn, broken scale in the bathroom. Took a long time to check in. Room was spacious, very hot as ot was in the attick. Two fans were set up at either side of the bed, though these were very noisey. I couldn't reach to open the window in the bathroom and their was no extractor so very steamy which is probably why the pain is peelin. £116 for one night in Newary for one person with extra to pay if you want breakfast (13.50) or parking (5). I prefer to stay at independent quirky residences rather than chains but I wasnt seeing value for money or high quality here.

Central for Newark

Booked room 10 and paid in full 3 days in advance, drove 3 and a half hours to Newark - a town we have never been to before. On arrival Carol checked us into the wrong room (room 1) which had a bare mattress, no pillows or duvet and was filthy. We showed her our receipt clearly showing we had reserved room 10 and paid in full, no apology given by Carol. We were then taken to room 10 and as we were unpacking we found soiled male underpants from the previous guest. Went down, told Carol and showed her the photo but no apology was given. Left the ‘hotel’ for the afternoon and evening. Newark was lovely. Returned to the hotel at 11pm to be confronted by Paul the owner and Carol who physically grabbed my wife’s wrist and tried to take the room key from her whilst Paul was shouting that we hadn’t paid so couldn’t stay..??!! Tried to calm the situation (genuinely were frightened and equally baffled by this bizarre behaviour) showed the receipt from Experian and the screenshot of the money taken from my bank 3 days ago only to be verbally abused and physically threatened. I have a chronic heart condition and organ failure, my wife has a medical condition. We got our medication from the fridge, packed our belongings and were essentially ‘thrown out’ at gone 11pm in a strange town, 2 vulnerable people, terrified and nowhere to go, minus £80. We will be engaging with the police but please, avoid this establishment at all costs.

Stay was ok but didn't realise there is a £5 parking charge if we use hotel.com this wasn't made clear. We could have parked for nothing nearby.

Lovely stay. Was like coming home after a few weeks of travelling. Lovely dinner and warm welcome.

This is an old building with lots of nic-nacs so don't expect sterile cleaning conditions that said it puts many of the big hotel chains to shame.
The welcome on arrival was detailed and excellent, the room very comfortable and despite being on the front traffic noise was almost none existent. The breakfast menu runs to four pages and food quality was first class.
Would we stay again 100% yes.

What a wonderful place to have found! The warmest of welcomes from this lovely family run establishment. Awesome room, with the most comfortable of beds I have ever slept in. The room had everything you could need for your stay. The food in the restaurant was out of this world! Homemade sausages and a breakfast menu to die for started the day off in fantastic style! Evening meal of a home made pie was beyond spectacular. So much choice on the menu, I'll be back to try more of this amazing food. Wonderful ale on tap and homemade Gin's, this place has it all. The staff were incredibly friendly, chatted lots and made you feel right at home. Already booked my next stay there.

The hotel location is spot on, parking is really poor in the town but this hotel has a private car park. The rooms are spotless and the staff are all polite and seem to love what they do. I cannot fault this hotel at all, the family feel is good and nothing is too much. We are staying again in 3 weeks.
