We had a wonderful stay. The atmosphere, food, staff, and hospitality are amazing. We loved the onsen available on site, but also managed to visit other onsen in town (you can get an onsen hopping pass from the town visitor center). Overall very tranquil and relaxing. One thing to note is that the pillows can be small and you may need to ask for larger or additional pillows. Highly recommend and would visit again.

I've been to quite a number of onsen hotels. This one have 2 things impress me:
The room is big
6 private baths with different themes! plus 2 public baths, I just feel like i was in a water park onsen version
4.7
The changing area of private bath apparently was not being cleaned frequently enough so it was wet and with hairs all over the place.

Really nice staff and food. They provide 8 different hot spring facilities as well really comfortable.

Beautiful setting over the river and in Kurokawa onsen.

Great Ryokan. The property is beautiful and it's not far from the Kumamoto limousine bus stop (the hotel gives you rides to and from the stop anyway). Short walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and the main area of the town.
Top notch service and super clean. The outdoor onsen is incredible.
A few (minor) complaints:
-Some of the decorations are a bit tacky
-You only get one bath towel during your stay. If you want an extra one you have to pay extra. This seemed...weird given the price of this hotel.

Staffs are very kind and very willing to greet cutomers
I would stay here next time too

We stayed at four onsen Ryokans during our trip and this was our favorite. The outdoor baths were wonderful. There are also 6 family indoor onsen open 24 hrs a day that do not require reservation. The room was huge with a lovely view of the river. The town is charming, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and they were very happy to have kids.

The staff are good and nice but their English is not good. However, using the body language is okay!
The environment around the hotel is really good, the night view is adorable.
Food are well prepared for us on time and they are really delicious.
Room is spacious for 5 members and the onsens are nice. There are a lot of onsens in the hotel, indoor, outdoor and four individual.
I strongly recommend the outdoor onsen, really nice and comfortable!

Thoughtful service, esp when travelling with young kids - they have a menu of baby-related items that could be requested, such as a bottle brush! Food was excellent and a good number of family baths that ensured availability.

Great Private Onsen and facility.
It would be better to provide various local food

The Yamabiko Ryokan is an amazing hotel and onsen. We had a phenomenal stay here, a night we will always remember. The service from the moment we arrived was first class and the onsen facilities absolutely fantastic. The breakfast experience also blew our socks off. We were so impressed that we really wanted to stay for a second night! As an aside, the opportunity to visit the neighbouring Onsen in Kurokawa on the day of our departure great. We cancelled our plans to go to Beppu for the day to stay and use the other facilities in the town. We have vowed to come back again very soon!

Very nice location, facilities, staff service. 6 private Onsens + 2 public outside onsens are wonderful. Our family satisfied so much. Only condition is cost. Hahaha. Wanna visit again in the future.

The hotel is far better than I think. The staff are very nice and polite. The traditional Japanese room is certainly a very nice try for non-Japanese. I have no complaints at all.

This one is super nice! Highly recommend! The staff is very nice and polite, it has 6 private hot spring rooms and two publics, have massage chairs. Hot spring area is clean. Bath area in hot spring, also clean. The dinning is in private rooms, which is beside the river, food is good but can be even better. The river bridge is beautiful. Free parking. My family loves it very much. Room is clean and big. Excellent service!

Good service, clean room, excellent Onsen especially you have 6 private Onsen with different themes to choose with. Both breakfast and dinner is good, and they even allowed you to bring your own whisky to drink with dinner.
Good parking facilities. You need a car to travel around.
