About this house rental
One of the grandest homes on Lake Champlain, this 5-7 bedroom (more when you add in the upstairs playroom with trundle beds, and the downstairs lounge with TV, wet bar, and pull-out sofa) faces precisely west, so that on the equinox the sun sets directly across the lake, over the Adirondacks. And in mid-summer, it sets far to the north, allowing for swimming (in the lake or the pool) late into the evening, or a bonfire of driftwood (provided) on the stone seawall. In the center of the lawn is a burr oak tree, estimated to be 400-500 years old, with a tree swing and providing gentle shade on summer days.
Upstairs there are four bedrooms--including a master with a private deck overlooking lake--as well as a playroom with double trundle bed. On the main floor there is a kitchen with table that seats 6, screened-in porch, dining room (with table for 12), living room with cathedral ceilings and panoramic views of the lake, as well as a second master bedroom. Downstairs is a lounge with wet bar, television, and sectional that folds out into a queen-size bed, for late-night moving watching or changing out of your bathing suits. On the lower deck is a hot tub, and on the upper deck a picnic table and gas grill.
Equipped with everything you might, including:
* in-ground swimming pool (open in the summer months)
* hot tub (seasonal, when pool is not open)
* kayaks (one single, one tandem), with personal flotation devices of all sizes
* tree swing
* hammock
* basketball hoop
* two concrete docks (a rarity on Lake Champlain)
* a mooring buoy
* gas grill
The house is in Charlotte, on the Lake Champlain Scenic Byway, one of the most beautiful bicycle routes in America. One town to the north is Shelburne, with its museum world-famous for Americana art, as well as Shelburne Farms with festivals and hiking trails. Only ten miles away is Burlington, a wonderful college town with restaurants, shops, cultural events, and minor league baseball team (the fearsome "Vermont Lake Monsters"). In the fall, the foliage draws visitors from around the world. And in the winter, the skiing is world-class, with Stowe, Sugarbush, Smugglers Notch, Bolton Valley, and the Middlebury Snow Bowl within an hour's drive.
This is not an investment property; it was our family home for many years, and now (after moved away) we return for a few weeks each summer. What that means is that it is extremely well-equipped, with high grade pots and pans, fine cutlery, a wide range of staples ranging from spices to sauces to flour and sugar (which guests are welcome to use), and a home lovingly cared for and maintained.
Unlike some other rentals, renting our home is not an anonymous transaction. Upon arrival you'll be met by our property manager, who'll walk you through the house, point out nearby amenities, and answer any questions you might have. He is available to you 24/7 for any needs that arise, and will also personally check you out at the end of your stay.
Important: We try very hard to be good neighbors, respecting others in our family neighborhood. Therefore, we rent exclusively to families (including multi-generational gatherings, for which the house is ideal), particularly those seeking a beautiful and spacious home for a week of watching sunsets over the lake, swimming in the pool or lake, barbecuing, picnics, roasting smores, kayaking, etc. Those (esp, groups of friends) seeking a "party atmosphere" are not appropriate for this property.

We had a wonderful week staying at this home. We enjoyed the spacious home, pool, and beautiful lake views. The property manager and owner were quickly responsive to any concerns we had.

Everyone in our family (3 generations) had a blast. Excellent views of the lake, big yard to play in, and we spent so much time poolside. Burlington was an easy day trip, about 35 minutes away. The roads leading to the property were great for going for a walk or run. And there were great options for food and drink within 20 minutes. Property manager was quick to respond & answered any questions/ concerns we had in a matter of minutes.
A real gem!

Great family house right on the lake. Pool came in handy on some very hot days!

The owner would not allow us to host a simple brunch of 8-10 people for our son’s graduation. Restaurants in Burlington are slammed for graduation. For the price this owner demands for 30 minutes outside of Burlington, responsible gatherings should be allowed. The place must not be rented very often. The kitchen and most of the house looks very dated to the 1980s, and much of the home is falling apart. It’s a beautiful location. The owner and management team did not prepare for our arrival, we booked 6 months in advance. The grass and grounds were not taken care of ahead of time, the cushions were all covered in green moss/algea, the opened the pool the day of our arrival, and it took the entire week of our stay for it to become swimmable. The docks needed to be power washed. Just a run down place. Don’t believe the pictures. Not worth what we paid by half.

The property was absolutely beautiful! The views out the windows and off the porch were gorgeous and breathtaking! Such a lovely home and we were thankful the owners shared their home with us. There were lots of birds and other wildlife to enjoy as well! Our family of 7 had a fantastic time and there was plenty of room so no one had to share space if they didn't want to. Great place! Beautiful introduction to Vermont!

My family stayed here in August 2022 and we loved the house. The view and pool access was unbelievable and plenty of space for our 8 person group. The only thing that brought down our review slightly was that we understood that there would be multiple kayaks available for use and there was only one that seemed to sink when you took it far distances.

We traveled to Bob's home with our family which included, kids ages 1-15, parents and grandparent summer 2022. We had a party of 12 and fit perfectly in this spacious home. It's grand rooms were filled with all the comforts of home and not to mention the amount of bathrooms/bedrooms exceeded our expectations. Bob's (owner) house is a home for all that stay.
We did travel a bit into the town and did the local stuff....blueberry picking (Pelkey's), Shelburne Farms/Educational Center, Vermont teddy bear company, local water holes (Warren Falls & Town of Waitsfield) and markets (check out Shelburne meat market...we can still taste the wings and crab cakes). You honestly don't need to leave this home. It has the perfect backyard equipped with multiple seating, lounging, play set, picnic table, pool and best of all the tree swing. The neighborhood is very family friendly, well taken care of and respected by all. We took many strolls to the covered bridge right down the road. The docks were perfect for fishing, reading and just for a moment of solitude with the views. The Lake Champlain is one of a kind. The water was seasonably warm and refreshing. We enjoyed the kayak and just some nice lounging in the water. Kids and adults easily navigated through the lake with water shoes on as recommended by Bob. The kids were in their glory between the pool and lake. Best of both worlds. The grounds were well manicured and very child friendly.
The dining room table fit all 12 of us for a family meal with views of the pool and lake. Many nights spent on the screened in porch just chatting. The sunsets were truly heavenly. The kitchen is a chef's dream. We didn't even need to eat out. We purchased local foods, cooked together, listened to music and sipped some wine with the constant views of the beautiful lake. We spent little time indoors and most of all outside. Never once missed a television. Kids also loved the secret playroom.
My interaction with Bob the property owner was great and very responsive. House listing just as described. Bob's home has all....you just need to pack your clothes....literally. The property manager Ricky was also very responsive, when we needed something. We really appreciated their availability to us.
This property exceeded our expectations. From our first arrival to our last day we made wonderful family memories that will be cherished forever. Thank you Bob for sharing your home with us. We hope to come back in the future.

Our family plus friends (9-10 adults depending on the day) spent a wonderful week in June at this rental property. We lived in the kitchen, screened in porch area while also using pool, hot tub, and kayaking on the lake. The exquisite scenery and sunsets were perfect for my daughter's engagement pictures and the dining room served as a great space to celebrate her 30th birthday. While we had seasonably cool weather, it was obvious the a/c would hold in hot weather. We would love to come back next year!
P.S. The only thing of note is that there is a canoe and a double ocean kayak, not a double and single kayak.

We had a wonderful two week stay. Multiple separate sleeping quarters make this house great for a family reunion. Everyone loved the pool, the landscaping, and the location; and the sunsets over Lake Champlain were beautiful. The house is very well equipped and a short drive to almost anything you need.

Spent a fun family reunion week here- outdoor amenities (pool,yard,lake views& access) were great. Inside some of the house is showing wear and in need of a refresh but with the glorious weather and location we spent little time indoors.

The house sits on the lake with a wonderful backyard complete with a built-in pool, swingset, kayaks and a hammock. The house is huge with windows overlooking the lake. The host had everything you needed from toys for my grandchildren, to pool accessories to lawn games. My grandchildren loved the playroom and spent hours in the play kitchen, building legos and playing the musical instruments. My daughters rated this home as their favorite place we have stayed and want to go back.

Our family had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the property. The kids loved the playroom, swimming in the pool, rowing the kayaks, and playing wiffle ball on the lawn. We lived on the screened in porch.

We had an amazing time here. The pool was the perfect temperature and the kids spent hours playing in it. The house was great, plenty of room, there was even a hidden playroom. Would definitely visit again. Tom (the manager) was just a phone call away if we had any questions .

We had an amazing time at this property. The house was super well-fitted for a large group. The kitchen well supplied with appropriate and good quality pots / pans, 'extras' like paper plates, soaps, laundry detergent were all available for use - and super appreciated since running errands from there was not a quick endeavor. We had 5 girls under the age of 8 and all had a blast. As if having a pool at their disposal wasn't enough, the kids were in heaven with all the new toys and books for them to use and play with in the 'kids wing'. They went over 72 hours without asking to watch TV.... we, the parents, were delighted and amazed. Given Covid, we didn't do too much and really just loved hanging out on the beautiful property, but in normal times, there is certainly a ton to do around the area that would keep a family occupied. We were delighted with our trip and may even try to come back in future sometime. Bob, the owner and Tom the property manager were amazing to work with and we really appreciated their responsiveness and availability to us during our stay.

Good morning Bob,My family and I would like to thank you for our most memorable and wonderful vacation we have had in our history of vacationing. Your home was centered perfect for our needs, and we all had different needs. The home itself fit the whole family comfortably with space for just hanging out by yourself or great family dinners together. We would like to give a shout out to Tom and his wife, wonderful people that were there for anything we needed and truly seemed to care about us having a fun time. My wife and I have vacationed around the world and to my delighted surprise, this was her favorite so far. Again thank you and we are already working through logistics to see if we can find a way to pull this off again next summer.

Sunset views are unreal! The property is large and comfortable. The town is pretty quiet (not much action) but that's why you go to Vermont. Check out the inn at Shelburne Farms and try a maple creemee at the Shelburne Country Store.
