Great hotel, wonderful food, excellent entertainment (beautiful lady singer in red singing Christmas songs) and brilliant staff! Great place to eat, stay and relax.

Dreadful - it’s supposed to be 4 star but it doesn’t deserve any. Probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in years.
3.0
Hotel was very tired. Friendly staff on reception. Best bit of the room was the shower room which looked like it had been recently fitted. Good quality fixtures & fittings. Bedroom area however was tired & dated. Quite a bit of dust & cobwebs on upper parts of the walls.Floors very creaky. There was a wedding on which we weren’t warned about & it was noisy. The music was turned off at twelve but then lots of noise with guests moving about. It is an old building & the floors & stairs are very creaky. It could be a beautiful hotel but it is badly in need of an upgrade in the rooms & communal areas.
However the location was good for access to city centre & the staff were very friendly.

Not a bad location for visiting Broad St/Brindley Place with tram stop a short walk away. Reception wasn’t manned when we arrived and it took some time to find someone to check us in. We found the same in the bar, had to wait for someone to appear to get a drink! Hotel is very tired, fixtures and fittings damaged and dated. Looked clean on the surface but shower curtains filthy and stained, thick dust on doors, bed head and shower gel container empty. Bath panel damaged and shower head thick with calcification, could definitely use some viakal! Windows draughty and hard to close. A wedding was taking place during our stay and although the music ended at midnight, there was continued noise until the guests had dispersed. Had we been aware of this event, we may have stayed elsewhere. On a positive, the bed was very comfy and bedding and towels of nice quality.

The room and bathroom were both clean. I would have preferred a firmer pillow.
Breakfast on our first morning, the staff were struggling to keep up with demand on the hot breakfast. My daughter and I had to wait for hash browns and black pudding.
Everything was hot though.

The hotel in general was cold, in our room the radiators did not work at all, temp -2 outside, . We asked twice for heating and eventually given 2 fan heaters, but only one worked. When you pay good money for a hotel you expect it to be comfortable and warm, this was cold !

Comfortable hotel. Carpets a bit tired

Okay stay. Staff friendly.
Breakfast very poor- no orange juice !
Selection very limited

Just returned from 1 night stay. From the outside, and when being in reception it looks lovely... but then once in the room they are super outdated and in quite a poor state.
The whole bedroom, bathroom ect was just really poor quality and obviously in desperate need of a revamp. Beds were like rocks, linen had marks.
Breakfast was okay. Not much to say on that.
Staff - reception lady was pleasant, but on checking in we waited for a man to appear for about 20 mins with 2 tired children who had been walking all day , without so much as a "sorry for your wait"
We was then told by the man that we had to pay £10 for parking - was not aware of this and no idea what justifies this as the carpark was near empty.
Wouldnt stay again.

The staff were brilliant - very friendly and welcoming. The food in the evening was really good and excellent value for money. The bar was well presented with quality products. The room was decent and comfortable. The only let down was breakfast.
I am sad to say in this review, in my experience, the breakfast was NOT (when I had it) value for money. The coffee machine sounded like it was on its last legs, coffee was weak, poor and undrinkable - I had to use the sachet of dried coffee to make a cup. There was no fruit juice - I was told 'we don't have orange juice', there was a bar with 200 bottles of it 20 feet away. The toaster didn't work well. Eggs appeared to have been cooked 30 minutes before and had gone hard and discoloured. The sausages were OK but, only OK. The rest of the buffet looked a bit cheap and thrown together.
I would 100% still stay at this hotel again, because the previous night and overnight experience exceeded my expectations; and it was above par and value for money. However, I wouldn't have the breakfast as this was significantly subpar in my experience this week, which was a shame as everything else had been so good. I think the owners need to invest in a better breakfast offer or, don't offer it. Fruit juice from a wholesaler is less than £1 per carton for 10 or 12 servings, cook the eggs to order (you will not be throwing away inedible uneaten rubber), lease a new coffee machine. Small things make a big difference for your guests.

Fantastic room. Easy check in and good customer service.
Only downside was the coffee wasn't great at breakfast.

The reception staff were helpful. My room was cold-the heating hardly came on. The lady in reception tried her best to sort it but the room was still cold. I then spoke to a maintenance guy who explained the issue and the room was warmer the following evening. Although it went off quite early and was cold again in the morning.
No one explained that i needed to put a notice out if i wanted to have the room cleaned and restocked. Once i knew i did it the following day but the tea bags were still not replenished.

Terrible place. Tired and in need of renovation. The room was cold and there was a sign on the wall stating that you had to ring reception to turn on/the heating. I did this and was told they don't switch on the heating until October! We checked out immediately - waste of money and best avoided.

The property is an old beautiful building and full of charakter. Its got hystory, the famous author J R Tolken (Lord of the Rings) Stayed there. Very friendly and helpful staff and a very comfortable stay.

We recently stayed 1 night 2 adults & 1 5yo.
On site parking, the hotel is full of character but the decor does look tired. The room we stayed in was a double and a sofabed, ensuite bathroom, lots of storage, again tired looking but was clean throughout. Breakfast was a buffet affair consisting of hot foods and a selection of cereals, fruits, yoghurt, pastries and breads which my 5yo loved.
We chose this hotel mainly for its on site parking as well as a base for legoland and the sealife centre, yes it was a walk but thats our thing.
Would we stay here again? yes 😊

Hotel has some lovely original features. Rooms do vary in style and comfort.
We found all staff really welcoming and friendly.
Stayed for breakfast this time with a good selection of hot and continental choice.
Would stay again!

Outdated
Furniture very unhygienic
Bed uncomfortable
Bar staff didn’t know how to pull a pint or make a shandy resulted in two bottles of beer and 30 minute wait as they didn’t know how to use the till
Very frustrating
Website showed a beautiful place
Rooms are in what I could only describe as a prison block

Was average and we didn’t make it for breakfast as we had jet lag with two small kids and they still charged us

Really good helpful staff, nice people. The new block had no AC and was stifling but comfortable enough.

It was a good stay. Reception staff helpful and room good. No bottled water in the room was a surprise.
The restaurant was for breakfast only and the expectation was that you would order food in.
The location was convenient for me and I’d stay there again.
5.0
Good hotel at reasonable price just outside city centre. Large comfortable and clean bedroom with good facilities. Very good cooked and continental breakfast.
Only downside was the hotel has no lift and quite a long walk from reception to bedroom up stairs and winding corridors. We did get lost on one occasion
4.0
Good stay in the hotel, beds and pillows nice and comfortable. Breakfast was as you would expect, nothing fancy just self service for both cooked and continental.
8.0
The staff were fantastic, their service was great, there is no lift to upstairs rooms and we were on the 2nd floor, staff did carry my bag up and down but there should be a lift in the new part of the building. It is a lovely old building with charm and close to the city. Filter in bathroom (on wall) needs cleaning it was clogged with fluff and creating the start of mold in the bathroom.

Poor ,
Hotel in a good area however
Room and general condition very dated
Had to pay for parking if you don’t book direct ..

Very worn, musty, place is done…
Huge refurbishment required

The room we were originally allocated had faulty lighting in the bathroom – the central light didn’t work at all, and the one over the mirror flashed constantly.
It must’ve been like that when it was cleaned after the previous guest, but had clearly not been attended to.
When I raised this, the person working on reception quickly allocated us to a another room, which was quite satisfactory.

Really nice hotel very clean staff were all very helpful and friendly free juice in reception very nice hotel. The Hagley road is a very busy main road but quiet inside hotel

Very dated, uncomfortable bed, shower gel impossible to get any out and overall very expensive for what it was. Porter was excellent though.

A gem of a place ,although there is no restaurant of an evening don't let that put you off staying ,in fact it's easier as the staff provide plates , cutlery and condiments so you can eat either in your room or in the lounge with bar ,which I may add is a great place .
Stayed in the Suite which is amazing !.
Now the best part the staff are absolutely the best cannot do enough for you ,so friendly ,welcoming and work hard .
Manager so helpful and most of all great personality .
Try the place you won't be disappointed!

Our stay at the great western was excellent with friendly staff amazing breakfast i think the only thing I could say is we had to go out for dinner as you don't serve food but still would recommend to friends and would visit again 😋

Excellent location for concert at the arena. Friendly staff and good selection for breakfast. Room was large and perfect for our needs.

Lovely suite with a cosy sofa room and a very comfortable bedroom. The bathroom was beautifully clean. We stayed on the coldest night of the year and the rooms were too big to heat well but a price worth paying to stay in an historic building.

Lovely bar area and rooms excellent (clean and comfy beds). No lift in hotel and limited downstairs rooms

It was spotlessly clean and warm friendly hotel. A special thankyou to Miles (night staff) who made our stay delightful and fun and nothing too much trouble.
The hotel is so comfortable and warm and the breakfast is very good. We will def come back again z

As you enter the reception damp smell is the first thing we noticed. Building is outdated and in need of touch up.
Room was freezing cold and I had to call reception to turn on the radiator.
Receptionist forgot to give me the barrier code when he charged me for car park and I had to go back in to ask on exit.
Not a good experience in general.

Convenient location for the symphony hall. Comfortable and quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The place was dilapidated and the room was terrible. I’m certain the bed had bugs inside them , I didn’t get any sleep. This hotel should be sectioned.
As bad as the hotel was, the staff were brilliant. Very welcome and hospitable.
