Staff are lovely and the building has some nice old touches. The bar area and restaurant are nice but the rooms although clean could do with some updating. I stayed ina standard room wich was functional and cleanly decorated but the bathroom was a little dated. I would stay again though.

Great location. Staff friendly and welcoming. Rooms and beds comfortable. Bathrooms could do with a little upgrade but overall fine for a night stay.

Central for our sight seeing trip in Lancaster. The two door lift is great. Breakfast was lovely. Our room was warm, with ensuite bathroom, very hot water and beds very comfortable.

First room had some kind of pump in bathroom for all the floor, very very loud pump noise when shower on or toilet flushed. Grubby room. Did move is straight away to a more premium room. This didn’t have the noise but still a very grubby room. Ground floor where reception is lovely u it’s you get to the floors where the rooms are. Wouldn’t stay here again

Lovely stay, great room. Spa facilities are fantastic. Possibly an upgrade to the exterior as the inside is superb.
8.0
A pleasant property, extremely well located for the town centre and for public transport links.

Very large comfortable room with big window and a four poster bed. Reception staff very helpful and efficient. Very comfortable and attractive dining area. Very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

Very central location . Bedrooms very dated and lacking decent night blinds so sun woke us early . Staff very friendly . Breakfast overly expensive so we used a cafe in town

Beds are a bit hard to sleep on and could do with drawers for clothes in rooms.
Excellent staff, really friendly and right next to town so was good.

Ice clean hotel small room shame no parking

Nice enough but well cheesed off shower had no hot water at all and was broken. Had no choice to take a frozen shower in December. Informed reception on check out and not even a sorry “ ok thanks” was the reply - in this modern day you expect hot water @ £75 a night room only

It's "OK", there are a lot better places to stay in Lancaster.

Hotel is in an excellent position close to train and bus station and the town centre. Very friendly helpful staff. The room I stayed in had much more character and style than chain hotels I have stayed in recently.

The room and bathroom were dated and shabby
The water for the shower was Luke warm

We arrived and were immediately upgraded. In fact given the choice of two rooms by the lovely receptionist! The rooms are a little dated but clean and the bed was really comfortable. The guy on reception in the evening was also lovely. So very friendly and a lovely smile. He was also there in the morning and equally as bright and breezy. Sorry didn't get your name! We would def stay here again. It couldnt be better situated for town and all the eateries, pubs and museums Lancaster has to offer!

This is a great hotel. The only negative was the lift (elevator, for those who wonder). The call button was broken on the ground floor for the duration of my stay (day 1: ok... day 2: well... days 3-6: really?!?). And the lift also requires that users close both doors when they are done so that it can be called from other floors, a task that seems beyond the ability of too many... Urgent upgrade of this one aspect of the building would really increase the customer experience I think.

Very close to train station, bus station and Tesco.
Receptionist is very kind.
The bed is so nice to sleep well.
Some parts of floor make sound when I walk through. That is the only thing I don't like.

Hotel has had a refurb and the room was nice. Bathroom suite looked clean but a little tired. Good tv and nice breakfast and lobby area. Lovely old lift but we often couldn't use it as people didn't shut the doors properly so it wouldn't move.

We were moved to another room for no reason at the front of the hotel. At bedtime, with no air-conditioning, the window had to be open and the traffic noise was unbearable. Close to a road junction with traffic lights so traffic constantly starting and stopping. TV didn't work at all. Mentioned it to staff who acknowledged the fault but nothing else. Not good value for money.

No a/c. Very low water pressure for shower. Very thin toilet paper. No door deadbolt. All menus were set pricing which means you’re ordering too much food. Small snack type items not available.

The staff was extremely helpful when I asked if I could park my motorbike. They offered a space behind the hotel, pretty safe.
All shopping and public transport are within walking distance.
The rooms are neat and tidy, breakfast is ready made instead of a buffet.
The building features an old, beautiful lift and the rooms make you feel welcome.

Decent hotel. Nice room, but no bathtub. Good breakfast but at £15 thought it was expensive.

The staff was very pleasant and courteous. The history and location of the hotel are a plus.

I arrived at Lancaster rail on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, after spending a few days in London. I was greeted by the lovely Lancaster weather and due to the rains there were zero taxis available so I had to walk to the hotel. Luckily, it wasn't too far but still an inconvenience. I finally arrived at the hotel and to my dismay, it looked nothing like what was in the pictures, scaffolds were everywhere and the building although from the 1600s had a dirty, grundy feel to it. Being tired and wet I approached the desk and was barely greeted by the receptionist, who was not very friendly at all but I figured it was just that "lovely British charm” that she was displaying. I was told to leave my keys with reception when I leave without an explanation. When I asked why the lovely lady essentially said it’s because they can't be bothered looking for their guests if the place needs to be evacuated (not in so many words but that's what I gathered). I was not minded to do so, but I did comply.
As if that was not bad, I clutched my invisible pearls as she explained the workings of the lift. It is very old (see pics below) and requires you to open and close the doors yourself, and just as I was about to call the lift, a lady called out, saying she was stuck. Let's just say I took the stairs from thereon in.
My room was extremely small and I was not given cards to activate the lights, not given brochures with the wifi code, and had to ask for all of these. As for the service in

Good location but being refurbished and miles away from completion. Not even a curtain on bathroom window when taking a shower.

room very tired looking with chips out of paintwork etc....needed a completer overhaul....room on the front of hotel too so very noisy....bed too small( I fell out!) and bathroom dirty as well.Dining room ok and breakfast was good....but room spoiled it for us.( and it wasn't cheap....maybe we were done by hotel.com)..we will not stay there again.

The hotel is central, and have an arrangement with a secure parking fascility at a price which was very reasonable for city centre parking. The lobby and reception area are pleasant, clean and welcoming, as were the staff. Our room was on the third floor, we took the stairs, and the first floor, like the ground, appeared to have been well kept and again pleasant enough. As we ascended however, the decor became noticeably poorer, which was a sign of things to come. Our room had clearly not benefitted from any refurbishment like other areas of the hotel. Whilst clean, it was dated and shabby. The floor creaked at every movement and every noise in adjacent rooms could be heard. We did not have a good night's sleep unfortunately. We were told by someone that had stayed there previously that the rooms that had been refurbished were much better, however we would not choose to stay again until we knew all rooms were of a higher standard, given the cost of the room.

The view of Lancaster castle and easy access to the main town area.

Pictures did not reflect the rooms I saw. Changed twice for such poor quality however it was very clean and reasonably priced. I had to pay to upgrade however the room was still nothing like the pictures

Really nice rooms, very clean. Worth every penny, would definitely recommend a stay!

The hotel is well located in the city, though the bus station is a little uphill walk away. Staff are welcoming and friendly and the refurbished parts of the hotel are cheerful and comfortable. The age and character of the hotel relating to its days as a coaching Inn are not erased and this should not be overlooked. The refurbishment programme has been halted due to COVID, therefore some elements have been started but not completed, whilst other areas remain to be addressed. I personally like the hotel and have stayed several times over the years, and accept some of the 'to be addressed aspects'. This time, the secondary glazing had been removed form the exterior window; which meant some road noise from the road junction below was inevitable. But the price reflects these 'work in progress' - so please stay and enjoy its history and hospitality.

It was better than last time. I would probably stay again as it is convenient.

Photos on this website do not look like the room we stayed in.
The room (and corridor) smelt of smoke.
The lock on the room did not work and the handle was almost falling off, we had to use the chain instead.
The shower and bathroom was old and dated and just not particularly nice or comfortable. It smelt of drains too.
The other room doors were constantly slamming all night and as a result, got absolutely minimal sleep.
On the plus side, the people on the front desk were welcoming and friendly.
We would not recommend staying there again overall if you want a good nights sleep and comfortable stay.
