The room was very clean, comfortable, and very quiet. The overall appearance of the Inn was nice as well. Well taken care of. I enjoyed having a room fireplace and made use of it with some Duraflame logs purchased at Home Depot.
On the downside, the room TV volume is locked to go no higher than 10 on a 0 to 100 range. I could barely hear it from the bed. Struck me as a little too much management nannying. As a former aviator, my hearing is far from perfect. This seemed pretty petty.
Also, the shower barely had any pressure, which was only exacerbated by the 'water saver' shower head. Likewise. the 'water saver' toilet could not handle regular 'deposits'; I finally just purchased my own plunger while over at Home Depot. I'd opine that the bathrooms all need an overhaul for these issues.
Lastly, I arrived about 50 minutes ahead of check in time at 3 PM and asked if I could drop of my luggage in the room. They demanded a $39 "early check in" fee; a first for me. Struck me as odd for someone in the hospitality industry. They should treat customers as guests, not marks. Also, they demanded to scan my drivers license and credit card into their computer. Never had that done before either. I almost refused and went elsewhere. Having been the victim of attempted identity theft, the thought of strangers with copies of what are essentially my identity documents worried me, especially on their basic motel computer system.

I stay here a lot. It’s not fancy but it clean and affordable.

The check-in was great -- a very interesting and friendly host! The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. However, I was given a first floor room, so I asked if any second floor rooms were available. Unfortunately, there weren't any. Next time, I will request a room on the second floor because the foot traffic above the room was very loud, intruding upon my sleep. Also, the bathroom was very clean, but there was hardly any water pressure in the shower -- just a trickle of water. Finally, the Pelican Inn faces one of the busiest streets in the area, so traffic is also fairly loud. Overall, good air flow, clean room, friendly staff -- just bring earplugs and request a second-floor room!

It was an adorable inn. A bit dated but the staff was awesome and the internet was solid. It’s located close to the mall, theater and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

The place is very cute outside. Did some upkeep, but still run down inside. Stain on chair at table. Bed was comfy and the bathroom was big. Nothing too bad. Great for value and they were nice there. If youre just looking for a place to sleep, its good. $200 hold.

I drove 4 hours and arrived 40 minutes early to official check in time of 3pm. With 2 cars in the parking lot and no-one in office, I tried to check in but was told 40 minutes would be a $40 charge. I just shook my head and completely changed my family plans for that evening. I returned 2 hours later and had to wait in line for 20 minutes to check in.

The only reason for the “average “ grade is because the water in the bathroom- shower and sink- did not get hot. I did report it after our 1st night, was told “ all the rooms are on the same temp setting, but someone would look into it. The 2nd morning we again took a lukewarm shower.

The room I got was decent considering the price compared to other chains in the area. It didn’t smell but it is very rough around the edges as far as paint and drywall but clean. Plumbing sounded like a sledge hammer in the wall when my neighbour ran the tap and because the building is old, you can hear everything outside very clearly. No 24 hour concierge is a con for me as we had a power outage during my stay. I found it quite scary as it was late at night and I was a solo female. Definitely need a car for the area. There is a gas station with snacks nearby and some homeless people outside. Definitely better for couples or men. Really close to the del Monte mall and Whole Foods.

Traffic noise from Nunras.

The front desk staff was very polite and helpful. My only critique would be that some of the guests were having loud conversations, and their voices carried to my room. Perhaps I could have called to ask the front desk to ask these people to lower their voices. But otherwise, I had a pleasant stay.
The parking lot is small and probably can only fit one car per guest. There is street parking.
Motel is a 15 minute walk to a mall where there is a Macys and other department stores. It is also a 10-15 minute walk to downtown Monterey where all the restaurants, cafe, and shops are at. Very convenient location considering street parking and even metered parking can be tough to find in the downtown area.

I liked the bed as it had a great mattress. The motel was very tired and broken/ Wifi didn’t work, aircon didn’t work, the fridge was on but did not cool, all towels were stiff and thin. No cups (except 3 very bendable thin plastic, no kettle/ tea or coffee facilities anywhere. Do not recommend.

This has to be the quietest motel I've ever stayed in. Even decent facilities sometimes have paper-thin walls and loud conversations in the parking lot, but, thankfully not here. Maid service is only every other day, but given the motel's cleanliness, I didn't find that a problem. Less than a 5 minute walk to buses serving Carmel and Monterey, and to Del Monte Shopping Centre. Excellent option at a reasonable price.

Only stayed a few hours to sleep but front desk person was very nice and efficient, the room was clean and spacious, and it wasn't loud despite being on the street. Parking is tight in the lot but there was street parking also available. Would stay again!

Very nice old-style motel with renovations. Friendly staff and very accommodating manager, who dealt fairly with a family issue we had come up. Near to a beautiful park for walking.

Cheap and close to all the major touristy things. Perfect for a quick little getaway.

It's a fine value for money spot. The ("duraflame") fire fireplace was cool. Thought that it was very strange when we showed up (early - just from the airport, jetlagged, etc.), and the attendant said that rooms were available, but we couldn't check in until the official time unless we paid $35. That seemed (seems) quite petty. So - we went out and had a nice lunch. A lot of loud constuction, chain saws, etc. starting around 7:00 A.M.

I enjoyed my stay at this motor lodge type of hotel except for the following negatives:
No coffee provided in room
Limited parking

Worst hotel experienced ever starting from checked in to checked out! Rudest place we’ve ever been to. Our reservation online was smooth and ok until we arrived. That’s when the nightmare started. Maybe because we’re Asians, who’s knows. But fees started to add up the minutes we checked in. Hotel Manager even threaten to charge us for utilities and electricity because we had 1 extra guest with us and also refused to give us a refund because we told him we were gonna go stay at another hotel.
I hope customers read about our experience and don’t book their vacation with this hotel… Pelican Inn in Monterey.

It is clean but very old and needs renovation. Floor is week at certains spots, under the rug, like it will break some day soon. No coffee in the rooms!! Baths and showers are clean but still...so used. And : no coffe maker in the room. This is really a basis treat you have to offer.

Noisy drunks above us until the manager called the police and they were arrested and removed. No coffee maker in the room. Property old - carpet dirty, bathroom tile has some mold in areas. Managers were very nice but the property needs to be updated.
